Welcome to the Dorm Ayumi Utau, Yuki Nagato, Jeremiah Alexander Raymond !

Your dorm is now full, but there's only two bedrooms, it seems... someone has to share!

Here's a map of the room:

than to be loved
for what you are not."

Alex opened the door to his room carefully, peeking around. It looked as though no-one had been in here yet. "Yes, haha!" he cackled, dropping his suitcase under the rightmost bed (the one on the left in the picture) and taking a flying leap onto the couch. He landed on his back and pondered a bit, Wonder who the roommates will be? Hopefully not some big buff guy ready to show me up. Alex worked out and had some worth-mentioning definition, but he wasn't a bodybuilder. Sighing, he looked again at the dorm assignment, "Man, it's impossible to tell with names like 'Ayumi' and 'Yuki'," he complained aloud.

Hey little girl, sun on your shoulders
And the light in your eyes
I got a feelin' you ain't been readin' the news...

Her expression remained blank as she pushed open the door, simultaneously removing her glasses as she stepped in. Although it had been rather nice outside, she remembered vaguely that she had a dorm bed to claim. Even the regularly stoic girl preferred the bed to a couch.

Continuing her trek forward, blind because her glasses were currently being rubbed against her shirt, pulled up to show some of her slender hips so that she could clean both sides of the lenses. She vaguely recognized the shape of luggage on one of the beds, and let out a slight 'ah'; so somebody had beat her to it. She paused standing in the center of the room with her shirt pulled up, before she put her glasses back on. Turning to inspect the luggage, she assumed it belonged to a male; it certainly didn't look very feminine.

Her head turned, silver hair splashing out slightly as she turned to stare at the boy on the couch with blank, brown eyes. She stood there, simply watching him. After a moment, however, she stalked towards the free bed, the one to the left of the room, and placed the book on it. After a moment of simply staring at the book on the bed her lips parted.
"It's... mine." she stated, making a verbal claim before she sat on the bed, returning to her previous staring; right at the blond boy.

The opening of the door caught Alex's attention and he stood from the couch, ready to offer a hand to his new companion when he realized something was off. Blinking, he looked her up and down without meaning to. Small hands, thin waist...not to mention what was above the waist. This person was female. A girl. "Oh!" he said, his tone more confused than anything, "I didn't know these dorms were unisex..." After a few moments, he decided there was nothing wrong with that. He held out his hand palm-up and made a small fist, offering a smile before flicking his first two fingers upward, revealing a soft yellow colored lilly clasped between them, "Call me Alex."

Yuki turned her attention to the boy. 'Alex' he called himself. She noticed his not-so-subliminal inspection and crossed her arms slightly, shifting so that she was in a kneeling position on the bed; if she simply sat, he might have seen up her skirt. That thought made her frown slightly. She looked at the boy for another moment, deciding that he would be okay so long as he left her books alone, she shifted, sliding off the bed with graceful ease before she walked over to him.

She cautiously took the flower, inspecting it a moment. It certainly felt real; but where had it come from? She had no idea, but she decided not to dwell on that.
"My name is Yuki." she said in a soft, airy voice while she bowed slightly. "Yuki Nagato. It's a pleasure." After a moment, she stood straight again; turning her back on him, she reclaimed her spot on her bed. Sitting this time with her legs hanging over the edge she opened her book; she was reading through it quickly, but she was distracted by the other's presence. After a moment she blinked and looked up, a surprised expression on her face before she turned on him. Her expression was serious. So serious it was almost humerus. It was obvious she was about to say something seriously important, and when she spoke her voice was slightly less monotonous than it had been previously.
"If you have people here, don't let them touch my books. Thank you and have a nice day." At least, important to her.

Alex returned the bow, though his was a little more teasing, "The pleasure's all mine." He removed his jacket and hung it on the edge of the bed, revealing a plain v-neck tee shirt that was loose enough to be comfortable, but tight to the point where his muscle showed through. The action caused a thought to pop into his head, If there's a girl in my room, where are we supposed to change clothes? They really didn't think that through did they? Which was irritating because back home he'd spent a lot of time without a shirt. Here he felt it would probably be considered indecent, but didn't know how to approach the subject.

He decided quick and painless would be best, so as she was mentioning her books, he just quick whipped his shirt off, responding casually, "You read a lot huh?" He had to take a quiet breath to avoid chuckling at how serious she looked, but started shuffling through his bag as he continued, "Are you a fan of poetry?" After a brief search, Alex found what he was looking for and carefully pulled it out. A thick black book with no cover. He flipped to where he had an emerald-colored bookmark and began reading in a solemn and very dramatic voice, the voice of an actor, "Gaily bedight / a gallant knight / In sunshine and in shadow / Had journeyed long / Singing a song / In search of Eldorado....... I've been pretty into Poe lately," he said with a grin.

Yuki blinked, thinking back. The poem was familiar, she had read it a few years ago...
"...But he grew old- / This knight so bold- ? And o'er his heart a shadow / Fell as he found / No spot of ground / That looked like Eldorado. / And, as his strength / Failed him at length, / He met a pilgrim shadow..." she quoted back, speaking as the words flitted into her head in an almost eerey voice. That was one of the things she truly loved; her memory of books and the like. She could probably quote from any page that she's ever read, if she tried. "He's a good poet, but there are better." she said, shrugging slightly.

She was curious, however, to why he removed his shirt; was it some sort of pre-poetry ritual that he had, or something?
He's weird. she thought, with a slight frown, before she realized that she might be offending him slightly. She knew that there were cultures all over the world that had different, well, cultural things. It wouldn't be good if she offended her new roommate. Blinking a few times she rested a hand on the bed to stabilize herself and latched onto the bottom of her shirt. It wasn't like it was rally a big deal, right?

Alex raised an eyebrow, "Better than Poe? How dare you insult my beautiful Annabel Lee!" he laughed, hopping onto his own bed and moving his bag to the floor. He hoped she'd taken that as a joke, she seemed to be pretty dead-set on this mood of hers. Leaning back on the wall behind the bed, he started to read. He had just finished Eldorado when he noticed Yuki was beginning to remove her shirt as well. He raised an eyebrow, "Well if you're that comfortable with me already." What a strange girl...he couldn't help but chuckle as he turned back to his book, "I'm pretty relaxed about things like that, but you can ask me to leave if you're not comfortable changing in front of me." There, that answered his question. It felt more like home already.

"But... I didn't say anything about 'Annabel Lee'." Yuki muttered, a confused frown on her lips. "And why would I change? You took yours off first." She tilted her head to the side, watching him curiously. "You're weird." she concluded bluntly, leaving her shirt be and picking up her book. Well, if he was going to say odd things then she wouldn't have to follow his traditions, right? After a few minutes she put the book down again; why couldn't she focus? She really didn't know. But it was starting to irritate her a bit.
Maybe this is some sort of sign; I should try to get along with him, or something. she thought with a slight frown, Well, I might as well. Instead of speaking, however, she simply watched him. After all, what was she supposed to say? He could do it; it seemed he was more used to such things.

Alex raised an eyebrow, his eyes staying trained on the book, "I'm a boy, it's acceptable for me to be topless in front of other people. You however might find that a little tricky unless you have a swimming suit or something." He shook his head when she called him weird. Talk about the pot calling the kettle black! She seemed nice enough though, and she made him laugh, which was always a plus.

"Speaking of swimming suits...do you like to swim?" Alex figured he may as well ask a question considering she was doing lots of staring and not much talking. Roommates were supposed to be paired with similar interests...it seemed already that they liked a couple of the same things. Perhaps she enjoyed outdoor activities as well. He would be happy to show off a little with his abilities, do a little goofing off...maybe even get her to lighten up a little bit!

Yuki listened to him speak, continuing to watch a moment before she brushed some of her short, silver hair out of her face. Her brown eyes hovered a moment, his logic was rather sexist; she decided. When he asked the question, however, she frowned slightly before she answered.

"Never tried it before." She finally stated, with her tone blunt. It was followed by a light shrug. Why would she have needed to swim? She had nobody, so it wasn't like there were people to swim with. On top of that, she didn't own the appropriate gear for it, and she could drown. That would be a horrible way to go; getting buried by books would be so much more... fulfilling. "Is it fun?" she asked, after another hesitant pause. This question was more to keep the conversation going; she was actually rather nervous about the water, and was a little afraid to actually try going into it. Then again, there would be life-guards or something, right? So it might be fine...

Alex's jaw practically hit the floor, "You mean to tell me that you've never gone swimming before?" He slapped his book closed and stared at her. The silence that followed was too much for him to bear. He thought a moment, pondering his schedule and then turned back to Yuki, "Why don't I take you to the pool sometime? It's got a pretty big shallow end, so you don't actually have to swim if you don't want to but I think you need to have the experience!" Abruptly looking determined, he continued, "We can even go buy a swimsuit for you if you don't have one."

Alex knew he was getting a little too excited about this, so he took a deep breath and let out a small laugh, "You should probably say so now if you have some moral opposition to swimming." When it came to new experiences, Alex did get a little pushy, but normally he could guess when to call it quits. As long as she wasn't terrified or anything, he had already made up his mind to take her to the pool.

Yuki blinked, caught off guard by his sudden eagerness. "No I've-" she was cut off, flinching as he roughly slammed the book closed. "The pool? But I-" again, she was cut off as he explained the shallow end. Her last chance to escape: "But I don't have a sw-" that logic was also shoved down the sink, with her dignity. "No, there's no moral opposition, it's just... What if I..." her serious eyes and flat face, although paler than usual, turned towards the wall. "I don't wanna drown." she finally stated bluntly. "I've never, ever been in the water before." If it where an anime, a sign would be hanging above her head, flashing out: Has read to many horror books about water.

She looked down, her face still blank but her eyes twisting with fear. "What if there's a giant squid, or a giant shark, or even merpeople; Like, not the nice ones from Disney, but the kind in myths that led sailors to a deep and gloomy death in the sea!?" her face shot up with an actual expression of horror. "I don't want to be stuck on a haunted boat for eternity!" she exclaimed, pointing out the window in what she assumed to be the general direction of water. Well, she was thinking of the map backwards in her head, and was pointing the wrong way. With a huff she sat back on the bed, shuddering slightly. "It is simply too dangerous." she concluded, her face returning to it's stoic state from earlier.

Alex pretty much ignored her feeble excuses, but as soon as she started talking about sharks and such, he could only smirk and listen. He nodded every so often, and tried to speak once but was cut off by "the kind in myths that..."

As she finished her little rant, Alex swung his feet over the side of the bed and rested his elbows on his knees. Looking up at her with a very serious expression, he asked, "Is that all?" A smile spread as quickly as he'd said it, and he continued, standing up to pace back and forth around the room as he spoke, "Because, really, if that's your concern then I think we could take 'em." He pursed his lips thoughtfully, "I'm guessing you've never met a mermaid before. Despite the myths, they're not all that vicious, just territorial. I bet you'd be protective of your turf too if people were constantly going through it littering and stealing." Tapping his chin, he stopped pacing and turned back to her, pointing dramatically, "Have you ever taken a bath?"

Any other woman might have been offended by that statement, but Yuki honestly didn't care. "I shower." she stated bluntly, "And territorial or not, they're still vicious." Yuki pointed at him with her index finger, her face still abnormally blank despite the seriousness in her tone. "And I don't want to walk around in what looks like fancied up underwear!" After a moment she frowned, looking away. "I see no reason to frolic about in water in undergarments." she concluded; that logic was sound, right?

Well, she prayed it was, because he seemed almost as determined to get her to go, as she was to not go. In the end, she knew that it was just her being foolish, but every time she saw large bodies of water... well, she was just afraid that she'd sink. "If I went, you wouldn't... you wouldn't let me drown, right?" she finally mumbled, after a pause. Not even Yuki knew why she was putting her trust in this boy, but... well, what else could she do? Was she supposed to stay locked up in her dorm and her classes and never go elsewhere? Even she could tell: that was ridiculous.
