As a fox currently without a permanent home, Freya had little contact with others of her kind. By having little contact with others of her kind, Freya knew little about the society of her kind. By knowing little about the society of her kind, Freya knew hardly anything about the current events of her kind--whether it was the mating season or not, whether there were any new groups seeking to become tribes or not, whether any of these groups had become tribes or not and where these tribes had their territory.

So she was little surprised when, one day, she came upon a tribe by accident. From a distance, she could not make out what the tribe insignia was, although it little mattered--likely she would know its meaning, even could she see it.

As she did not know this tribe, nor its views towards outsiders, she waited what she deemed a respectful distance away, as she thought over what she ought to do. Should she approach and introduce herself to her fellow Elder? Should she instead allow the other Elder to make the first move, as this must be the other's land? Or would it be best if she were to simply turn back the way she had came and leave, as she was the intruder on the other Elder's land?

She thought and thought over the question, and thought some more. By thinking, she did not act in one way or another. And by not acting, she then in a way chose the middle option--let the other Elder decide how this encounter should go; whether Freya would be welcomed or chased away.

*and then stuff about
Rina: Gypsy are wanderers
Freya: omg I wander too
Rina: your adventures. Tell me them
Freya: Well I kinda don't have any 'cause I only wander because I have no friends and no home. Tell me your adventures
Rina: *tells the ship story*
Freya: omg. you are so cool
Rina: tell me about you
Freya: um, um, um...idk D:
Rina: how did you get to be a tribeless Elder (thinking: since I never asked Cyg)
Freya: Um, I just grew up, yanno, BCR to kit to adult. And then I grew again. I just didn't really question it, 'cause I just figured, yanno, 'deities. They know what they're doing.
Rina: wtf not questioning blasphemy
Freya: um, um, um, well...um, WELL HOW WOULD YOU QUESTION A 'DEITY, HUH?
Rina: uh, good question. Um, maybe, pray to them. Yeah.
Freya: Yeah, but how do you know which one to pray to, when you don't know which one did this to you?
Rina: Um, can't you just, like, pray in general? Maybe?
Freya: Shouldn't you know?
Rina: I never tried.
Freya: "wtf not questioning blasphemy"
Rina: ...okay, point there. I guess I can try.
Freya: Are you trying yet?
Rina: Yes. And you should try too.
Freya: ...I don't know how. I never figured out how to use my Elder-y type abilities.
Rina: Well, uh, the healing thing and hearing BCRs are pretty automatic. But we don't have anyone currently hurt, and it's been a good long while since anyone in this tribe had kids...*lecherous stare at Freya oh bb* (no.) Here, let me telepathically talk to you. ~oh bby it's been so long since I've made babies; help me with that~ (no.)
Freya: wtffffffff

THE END!

oh ps Freya could be all "so, 'bout 'dem scars"
Rina: oh, I fought a mountain lion, nbd
Freya: wtf.

and
Freya: You have any family?
Rina: 9 kids and *x number* of grandkids and brother and his spawns
Freya: ...nine kids?
Rina: two crack breedings
Freya: wtf (get in bed w/me right noooow)

(...I should just be banned from the english language...)

Rina noticed something had caught the attention of some of her tribe members, and so became aware of the presence of another fox. Another Elder, to be precise. Odd: she did not believe she was intruding on anyone's lands (there had been no signs of permanent habitation at all, let alone anything that implied an entire tribe lived here). Nor could she see any tattoos on the pure-white Elder which would distinguish a tribal affiliation. Then some hidden jewelry, perhaps? Nothing Rina could see from at this distance, at the least.

She took her leave of her tribe members, and went to find out what the other Elder's story was.

Freya watched the other Elder approach but did not move; not forward in greeting, nor backward in retreat. Instead she simply waited, and watched, as the stranger left the small valley nestled in the hills where the tribe was located, and made her way to the top of the hill on which Freya stood.

The coming stranger was heavily modified, and Freya could not tell which of the markings might designate the tribe. The tattoos around the eyes? The ones on the legs? The pendant around the neck? Most likely not the piercings nor the bracelets, as those were to commonplace to use as an insignia. That was as much as Freya could determine, however.

The other Elder stopped a respectful distance away. That meant it was Freya's move now. "Hello," she greeted her.

Rina gave the Elder a moment to elaborate, before replying herself.

"Hello. This is your land, I presume?"

Yet even at close quarters, she could distinguish no tribal markings on the white vixen. And given that there had been no obvious signs of habitation as there would have been, if a tribe lived here, Rina could only draw one conclusion. This vixen was one of the few and rare tribeless Elders. In all her years of wandering, she had thus far only met one, her friend Cygnus.

Now, here was finally a second.

"It's not yours?" Freya returned in surprise. She had no friends nor any tribe to tie her to one place, yet it couldn't be so for the other Elder. But the question and its tone had implied that these lands did not belong to the stranger. Then what was she doing away from her lands? And with at least some of her tribe members too, it seemed. Freya could not fathom it.

"I claim no land as my own," Rina responded to the white Elder's obvious confusion. "Neither I nor my tribe claim any land as our own."

She evaluated the white Elder's response, to see if she ought to continue or not. Some foxes sought out novelty and new information (Rina counted herself among this number), while others were content to shelter themselves and live in ignorance. Rina limited her interactions with this latter category, as she had since learned (through many repeated tries) of the difficulty, of the near impossibility, to force a fox from a place of secure and comfortable ignorance, into painful but glorious knowledge.

Confused by this answer, Freya could only ask: "But you're an Elder with a tribe, aren't you?"

She was certain those other foxes whom the tri-colored Elder had left behind belonged to the other Elder's tribe. Tribeless Elders she understood, since she was one of them, and she had thought she understood tribed Elders as well. Perhaps she had been wrong. Living on her own as she had, ever since she could remember, meant that she lived in ignorance as well. Although most often, she came accross something she had no prior knowledge of at all--finding out that she was wrong about something she thought she had known was a new experience. One Freya did not like. Ignorance was one thing. Discovering her knowledge was faulty was another.

"They--those foxes over there," Freya indicated the group with whom the tri-colored Elder had previously been, "are members of your tribe, aren't they?"

She held on to hope that she misunderstood one thing or another, not that she was wrong. Her knowledge was precious to her as it was precariously and laboriously gathered--she could not stand the thought that something so dearly gained could so easily be lost.

No. She was mistaken in her assumptions, not her knowledge. Mistaken, not ignorant. That was all. And in all that there was a world of difference.

"They are," Rina confirmed, relieved at the other Elder's curiosity. She was curious about the white Elder in turn, and *something about how this whole thing would be easier if Freya ~cooperates~ (that sounds so skeevy)*
