A growl tore from Dante's throat as his teeth effortlessly sliced through the flesh of the small deer in front of him. It hadn't given him much fight going down and even the chase was rather drall. He felt as though he had done this so many different times. There was no challenge. Dante snorted into the doe's body, as he ate his fill. Because of his mother's blood, he could only stand to eat so much meat at a time. It tasted absolutely delicious, but he could never finish anything larger than a rabbit at a time. Kiera had tried her best to get him to eat greens when he was younger, but as he aged as traveled farther from home, he began trying different things- meat being one of them. Dante raised his head up from his kill, warm blood seeping through his teeth and down his chin. His tongue lapped up a few of the stray drops, as he put a small amount of effort into keeping himself clean. His eyes ran over the clearing of the forest. It was too quiet for his taste. His hide rippled as the feeling of being watched creeped over his skin.

The air around the tiny mare buffeted her briefly as she came to alight once more upon the ground. This was Aurora, the strange, meek KiriWind whom was as dainty as a flower and as pretty as one as well. The colors that shimmered across her wings and body were unnatural, and glowed like a firefly even in the bright sun. Tired, she had finally decided to stop and rest. But this was not until she had heard a noise. It was the piercing cry of a deer in pain, and it cut through her with great accuracy.
With great fear, Aurora made her way through the trees toward the cries, which had suddenly ceased moments ago. She worried about the little thing, what it's fate had become. And what she laid her eyes upon... oh, she wished she had not.
A Kalona. Dripping with blood.
At his feet lay a butchered deer, unrecognizable to what it had once been. Her mind told her to run, run away, but her feet were glued into place by a sudden heart-squeezing fear. She was terrified that if she moved, she would be seen, that she would be like the doe. Meat for a beast.

Dante wondered how he not noticed the mare's presents before. The colors practically radiated off of her black coat, and he almost felt the need to squint when gazing at her. Almost. He immedietly noticed the fear in her gaze and couldn't repress the dark chuckle that bubbled in his throat. She had no reason to worry that he would attack her... But she didn't need to know that. He raised his head to show her his full height. His large wings stretched out intimidatingly behind him as he dared her to run with his eyes. She look as though she was a jumpy type, easy to scare. Dante's lips pulled up into a smirk, one sharp canine sticking out at the side. This is going to be fun, He thought, his tail lashing at the ground. He took a few steps towards her, the deer carcass long forgotten.

The mare took several steps back, her ears back and her wings extended outward, ready to fly away. But he had wings as well... and her mind told her that he would give chase. But by the sun, she was nervous to be around a creature that towered above her.
Her fear finally chilling her and taking logic away from her, she turned and bolted into the trees, the afterglow of her body leaving an almost ethereal burn in her wake. She didn't slow to look behind her as she ran, her cloven hooves digging into the hard dirt, and her long hair like a sail behind her, sticking into the brambles and twigs as she past them by. She didn't care. All she knew was she did not want to be beneath those sharp teeth.

Dante's smirk turning into a excited snarl of sharp teeth, still dripping of fresh blood as the mare suddenly turned tail and fled into the trees around them. This would be a chase he could enjoy, for a change. Large wings curled into his sides, so as not to slow him down, as he sprung forwards, leaping after her into the woods. He would catch short, bright glimpses of rainbow'd hair before they'd disappear again. The scent of her fear filled his senses and drove him forward to pick up his pace. For such a small mare, she was faster than Dante had anticipated, and with his large body, it wasn't as easy dodging low branches. Snarling at an oncoming low hanging branch, Dante didn't bother slowing his speed to dodge it, but instead charged faster, lowering his head to ram into it. With a loud crack, it broke around his horns, the small sharp points scratching across his forehead. The piece of broken wood was left hanging onto the tree by a few thin pieces of bark. Growling at the slight pain on his head, he didn't pay any further mind to it. He could tell that he was gaining ground. Adrenaline took control of his steps, as he caught sight of her once again, pushing him till he was just behind her. Keeping his pace, he reached down with his mouth to n** at her back.

Aurora was in a state of turmoil as she heard the crashing and snapping of branches in which she had past only moments before. He was gaining on her, this she knew, but the realization did not slow her helter-skelter pace. The mare was small, but fast. Yet even with her wiry speed, her steps could only barely keep her out of reach of the large stallion which took chase behind her. She was terrified and had no plan. She knew she could not keep running, but what to do?
Before her mind could wrap around any sort of valid course of action, she felt a hard n** at her behind. She let out a startled whinny that pierced that quiet and fell to the ground, having had no time to avoid the large branch that had barred her way. Her mind was awhirl as she lay in a heap on the ground, her eyes wide in shock. How had he caught up to her so quickly? She turned her head to stare at the stallion, her eyes speaking before her mouth had opened. "You're going to eat me, aren't you?" It was a blunt, matter-of-fact question that would have caught anyone off-guard.

Dante had noticed the oncoming branch before the mare had and made the necessary precautions. This, of course, meant to run straight into it full force. The mare hadn't been strong or fast enough to avoid it, and had fallen to the ground when it came in contact with her front. Narrowly avoiding her fallen body, he crashed into the branch with his chest. He felt the air get pushed out of his lungs at the force, but the branch snapped in half, falling to the ground away from the mare. Dante slowed to a stop, his chest aching but tolerable. This mare would see how strong he was, and wouldn't put up a further attempt to flee. However, when he finally stepped up to her, the smirk back upon his lips, when she spoke he was quite shocked. "You're going to eat me, aren't you?" Eat her? Dante almost scrunched his nose up in disgust. He hadn't ever tried the meat of a Soquili, and had no desire to start now. "I just ate," He replied, his words short and to the point. She didn't need to know that he had no intentions of hurting her. The mare's fear was sparking up something inside of him. "Why were you watching me?" He growled, lowering his head to her level. His eyes searched for any injuries that she might have gotten during her fall. Twigs and leaves were caught in her mane, and dirt stained her coat from where she laid. He might have considered her pretty if she was cleaned up.

She felt the wind knock itself from her lung, leaving her breathless as she fell to the ground. The Kalona had kept close behind, and instead of falling like she had, the branch was broken asunder as if it were the stem of a flower. She shuddered at the thought of that being her bones crunching beneath hoof and tooth. Yet, he did not make a move to do so...
Glowing eyes pierced the Kalona as he looked her over. And yet, as he did, she saw no sign of some raging beast bent on tearing her limb from limb in the golden eyes that stared at her. Had she been mistaken?
His question caused her to snort softly. "It was the cry of the deer... I was afraid that it was hurt... And lo and behold..." The mare did not have to speak the words of what she had found. She knew it was the cycle of things, yet it made her skin crawl nonetheless. "I did not mean to stumble upon you dining, merely a coincidence." She murmured, her voice soft and a bit shaky, yet holding an almost songbird-like sound to it.

"It did not suffer," Dante answered shortly, his brow lowering into a more annoyed look. He was many things, but overly cruel was not one of him. He didn't enjoy the screams of his prey before it perished. However, the fear of a small mare as he played with her was something entirely different. "Are you hurt?" Dante suddenly asked, remembering the mare's rather violent crash into the branch. She appeared rather shaken, but that could have just been the result of being chased by a dangerous looking stallion almost over half her size. He could see or smell blood anywhere on her, though he was sure that she would have a few bumps and bruises as a result.

When he spoke of the deer not suffering, she felt a wave of questions spark in her mind. Why would he care whether the animal suffered or not? Wasn't it just food to him? Strange... Aurora quirked her head to the side at the Kalona's question, confused to why the brute would care. "I'm... fine?" She spoke, as if unsure of herself. She was indeed sore from her fall, and her rump smarted from where the Kalona's teeth had grazed her. But all in all, she was not in pain.
With a flair of her wings, she allowed herself to slowly rise to her feet, and found herself greatly dwarfed in the presence of the Kalona. He was two, if not three times her size, not to mention the mighty wings that spanned from his shoulders. He was a beastly creature, yet there was something about him... A refined edge, a proud power that made her feel even smaller then what she was.
Her eyes could not help taking him in, for he was unlike anything she had seen up close. He was nothing like her adoptive father, and made him seem like a disgusting thing in comparison. Folding her wings, she lowered her head slightly. She had every urge in her blood to run... but she stilled herself.
Curiosity was getting the best of her.

"I would not suggest trying to out run me again," as entertaining as that would be. Dante snorted to himself, it would be foolish of her indeed. He watched as she carefully got back to her hooves and flared out her wings as she did so. He allowed himself to admire the colors that flashed brightly from the blackness of her coat. What an oddly colored mare, Dante thought, dismissing the fact that his coat was also rather catching to the eye.
He had seen many winged Soquili in his time, but none such as vibrant as this one. The darkness of her coat was so black that if it hadn't been for her uniquely bright feathers and highlights, he probably wouldn't have caught her watching him earlier. He still sensed that she was fearful of him, even though he had no intention of striking her down in cold blood. Dante killed for food only. "What is your name, mare?" He practically demanded an answer without supplying her with his own name. She would find out in time, and there wasn't any way he'd let her escape without it engraved in her mind.

Aurora stared at the Kalona, her multicolored eyes staring up at him with a dangerous insolence burning in their depths. She stepped back and snorted. This male was uppity and she was sure that he knew it. A small frown crept upon her lips. To answer and give her name, or perhaps give a false name. But that would make her a liar, and it would go against the essence of her being. Ugh.
Flicking an ear, she looked to the side, deciding better to not meet that sharp gaze. "I am one who is called Aurora." She murmured, her tone as insolent as the gaze that drifted back up to rest on the male's shining eyes. She loathed giving her name to one such as him. But she also didn't want to face the wrath that made her flank quiver.
She felt a sort of loathing courage to face the brute, even though the threat behind his words about her trying to run again held a weight that she could not ignore. Was this his way of playing with his prey?
