A little frustrated Alastar frowned as he checked the pamphlet in his hand again, looking up he gazed at the room around him, searching for any sign he was on the right track. Unfortunately nothing seemed to click. He'd come to the museum to see an exhibit about early dynasty Pharaohs that had artifacts on loan from the Cairo Museum. The problem was that this was his first time here and he'd soon gotten turned around as he searched for the exhibit.

The pamphlet about the exhibit he picked up at the entrance hall, had a small crudely drawn map on it and indicated the exhibit was in Hall B, which seemed to be to the east of the entrance hall. Well Alastar assumed it was east, there wasn't anything on it to really indicate how the map was orientated. So turning right from the entrance hall had went in search of the exhibit; ten minutes spent wandering and he realised he had no idea where he was going. He'd seen several posters advertising the event, but like the pamphlet they only mentioned Hall B, but had yet to find any signs showing the way there.

Just then he caught sight of grey haired gent in a uniform and decided he must be an employee; for why else would an elderly man be wearing a uniform here? Approaching the man Alastar gave him a light tap on the shoulder. "Excuse me, can you help me? I'm looking for the Pharaoh exhibit in Hall B?"

This had been a lame place to come hang out. But it was one of the few places no one would look for him, and that's what he wanted more than anything right now. Angelo had ditched school, sneaked off campus. The museum wasn't the most... interesting place to go, but it was quiet and had air conditioning. Man, he really shouldn't have worn his uniform. But it was the only way he could move around on campus and not look suspicious. Why didn't he just ditch it when got inside?

He was thinking about taking the coat off when someone tapped his shoulder. Angelo turned to look sidelong at the boy who approached him. His brow quirked slightly in irritation. "The what?" He asked with a slightly cynical tone. Oh, that must be the thing all those posters were talking about. He turned to face Alastar and looked him over, hands on his hips. One eye was hidden by the sweeping silver hair, but the other sharp blue eye was looking at him critically. "Didn't you pick up a map?"

Alastar was slightly taken aback, firstly by the tone the other had used and secondly by the other guys youth. Approaching from behind Alastar had seen the grey hair and assumed the guy in the uniform to be much older, but now found himself facing someone close to his own age. An odd assumption maybe since Alastar had near white hair himself, but that fact only made him keenly aware that he was an exception rather than the rule. This was the first time he'd encountered someone his own age with similar hair. It then dawned on Alastar that while that thought had been passing through his mind, he'd been just standing there, staring into the other boys crystal blue eye.

Glancing down at the pamphlet, Alastar used his free hand to fidget with his glasses, adjusting how they sat on his nose and using the few moments that bought him to get his thoughts in order. "Erm... ya. The map isn't really all that useful. To be honest it looks like whoever drew had never been here in person and had to go by someone else's vague description. If you could just point me in the direction of Hall B I'd appreciate it."

Alastar quickly found himself forgetting about the tone this other youth had spoken to him with. After all, anyones patience would wear thin if they had to answer questions from tourists all day long and Alastar was always willing to give people the benefit of the doubt.

Angelo sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose. "I don't know. I don't work here ya know. Do I look like the museum attendants?" He points off to the side where a tour group was being led by a man in a red coat and black skirt. He may have been in a uniform, but it wasn't the uniform this kid should have been looking for. He stood tall again and folded his arms. "I didn't even know there was a hall B. Give me your map." He holds his hand out and makes a vague grab for the paper.

"Sorry, my mistake. I didn't mean to bother you" A little reluctantly Alastar handed over the pamphlet to the guy in the blue uniform. "The map just has a few simply drawings, which I assume are reference to other exhibits or landmarks; not that I've managed to recognise any. This is my first time here." Alastar offered up the explanation, even though he didn't feel like he owed this guy one. Yes, Alastar'd been wrong to assume this guy was an employee just because he wore a uniform; but that wasn't any reason for him to be so discourteous. Honestly Alastar would have been happier to go seek out one of the tour guides now that he knew who to look for, but this guy seemed to be offering to help anyway and Alastar didn't want to reject aid he had solicited after all.

After handing over the pamphlet Alastar glanced around the room again, taking note of the direction the tour guide was going in case he had to find someone more helpful. Alastar also noted that there didn't seem to be anyone else wearing the same blue uniform the guy in front of him was. That brought a few questions to mind, not that Alastar voiced any. He just waited patiently while the guy in the blue uniform looked over the map.

Reaching into his pocket, Angelo pulled out what looked to be a pocket watch and opened it. Inside the metal casing was a compass. He turned so he and the map directions were both facing north and studied the stupid doodle a moment longer. "Hn." He think he understood the map. "We're probably about here." He stepped back so Alastar could see the map. But we're on the first floor. The exhibit is on the second floor. So it's a question of finding the stairs, or an elevator. Neither of which are marked on this thing." He glanced back up at the other boy.

"Oh right, thanks" Alastar mentally kicked himself for not checking the other floors, but he simply didn't know the layout of this museum. Any other museum he could think of usually had it's main exhibit halls on the ground floor, so it hadn't occurred to him. Reaching out to take back the pamphlet, Alastar nodded towards the compass. "You certainly come well prepared. My name's Alastar by the way. You're not here with on a school tour are you?" The last was said more as a statement than a question as Alastar glanced around the room, quickly confirming that nobody else was wearing a similar blue uniform.

Angelo raised a brow at the boy, though not that he would see it under Angelo's hair. "School... Oh, not at all. I got bored with classes and wanted to go someplace where no one would find me. So, here I am." He made a vague gesture before looking at the compass in his hand. "It's my ... good luck charm, of sorts. Besides, you never know when you'll need one." He closed the metal case and tucked it away again. "So this exhibit thingy you're looking for... Is it interesting?" He wondered if tagging along with this guy would be more fun than wandering down here alone.

Alastar nodded and brightened a bit at mention of the exhibit. "Ya, or well... I hope it will be. It's about early Egyptian Pharaohs, specifically those from the Old Kingdom period, which was like ancient Egypt's first golden age. You've seen pictures of the great pyramids right? Well the Pharaohs who built them ruled during that period. I'm here gathering info for a school project actually, but I'm fascinated by ancient history so wanted to come anyway." Alastar took a few steps away before pausing wondering if his new acquaintance was going to come along as well. "So I gather you didn't come here for the exhibit; do you have an interest in history at all? Or did you just wander in here completely at random?"

Ugh. So this guy was here for school work? Well, the exhibit sounded better than what he was doing. Things were so boring down here. "It... yeah sure. Randomly walked in here." Close enough at least. Angelo walked after Alastar as he headed a few steps away. "It sounds interesting. Or at least more so than the stuff down here." He wasn't going to say he was tagging along. He had every right to go to the other exhibits too. Really he was just bored.

"Well I've always been fascinated by ancient history" Alastar started off in search for a way to the upper floors, waiting for the other boy to fall into step alongside him. "It's impressive what our ancestors managed, even though they lacked out scientific knowledge and technology. So... Are you ever going to share your name or should I just start calling you 'Hooky'? Speaking of which, what school do you go to? It's not Valley High." Alastar cast a glance over at the other guy, taking a longer look at his new companion. Though he didn't know a lot about the city, he had seen students from Valley High wearing the black and yellow uniform, but he didn't think he'd seen the blue uniform before.

While he waited for an answer, the two continued walking until they came to an intersection where Alastar spotted a sign with an image of stairs and an arrow pointing down a side corridor. "Finally. Looks like we're on the right track at least."

Angelo didn't need coaxing to fall into step with Alastar. But damn was this museum confusing. At least listening to his companion was somewhat amusing. "Angelo." He offered when prompted for his name. Introductions had fallen to the side when faced with irritation of being mistaken for an employee. "I go to the all boy's academy, Tidal Heights." He didn't expect Alastar to know much about it, if anything. They had kept their doors closed pretty tightly until recently.

"These stair images always amuse me. The stick people look like they're falling down all the time... Or on fire. I wonder if in the future one of these will end up in a museum, and someone will try and explain what the artist intended." As they mounted the stairs, Angelo hazarded conversation. "The technology they had was state of the art. Imagine the excitement when the concept of a loom caught on. A n easier way to weave cloth? That was near witchcraft."

"Angelo? Hmm.." A thoughtful expression crossed Alastar's face before turning to a small smile. "I don't think I've ever heard of Tidal Heights, I didn't even realise they had all boy schools here. I spent some time at a boys boarding school a few years back; didn't really adjust well to it. What is your school like?" Mounting the top of the stairs Alastar glanced about for any sign of the exhibit, but failing to find any started down the main corridor.

Alastar let out a quiet laugh in response to Angelo's joke and flashed the other boy a broad smile. "I sometimes wonder things like that myself. I imagine the exhibit next to sign would be a television, with a plaque reading 'Ancient Idol of Worship'. As for witchcraft my mother is convinced thats how a kindle works. Books without paper? Heresy!" Alastar fell silent for a moment, lost in thought before continuing in a more serious tone. "But that's one of the things I love about studying history, trying to understand our ancestors and how they perceived the world. They're way of life, culture and tradition. All so different and yet with so many similarities..."

Alastar trailed off at the end before suddenly snapping back to the now. "Sorry, I hope I'm not boring you, I find history so fascinating I often forget that other people don't all share my enthusiasm."

He thought about how to best describe the school. "I imagine it's a lot like prison. I live in the dorms, and operate on a very rigid schedule. I have at least 2 classes every day of the week. It's a bit of a nightmare." Maybe Alastar would see why Angelo decided to take a day off. He didn't have an other days to relax.

"Would a toilet be a seat of honor then, by that logic? All hail the porcelain throne and all that." He said as they started down the corridor. "Technology is sort of like witchcraft. Just because we understand it doesn't make it any less... What's the word, awe-inspiring?" Though he had to laugh that his mother didn't like the electronic books. "It sounds like how nonna would think of electronic books. But she and nonno are so traditional." He paused a moment. "Ah, that is, my... grandparents. I swear they would probably step on grapes to make wine if they weren't on in years." Speaking of tradition of course.

"History's ok I guess. Some of it. I like it more when I'm not listening to a teacher talk at me and make me absorb what they're saying. It makes me want to sleep. I much prefer this. A more interactive, hands on approach to it. Or it could be I only think it's interesting right now because I should be in Trig."

It was clear from Alastar's expression that he thought Angelo was exaggerating how bad his school was, after all lots of kids their age thought school was prison, or called going to class daily a nightmare. Still he felt a little sympathetic. "Do you really have class everyday? You don't even get the weekends off? Surely they have to give you some time off to relax? I mean there must be something in the Geneva Convention about forcing kids to go to class everyday?" If what Angelo was saying was true, then Alastar could understand the need to play hooky. He had a hard time adapting to the grind of going five days a week and looked forward to his weekends, being trapped in a school 24/7 would be an actual nightmare.

Alastar nodded in agreement with Angelo. "Ya, I love history but even I find a lot of the stuff they teach in class kind of stale. It's just a bunch of facts and dates they force you to memorise, without getting you to understand why. They just make it feel so..." Alastar paused for a moment as he searched for the right word, before just shrugging. "...Dead. If you'll forgive the pun"

Alastar suddenly brightened as he saw a large poster over an archway marking the entrance to the exhibit they'd been searching for. "Here it is. I hope it's as good as it looked in the pamphlet." Stepping into the hall Alastar paused and looked thoughtfully at Angelo for a moment. "I was thinking, since I kind of ambushed you downstairs and brought you along to this on your, erm... 'Day off'. Maybe after we have a look around we could go somewhere you might be more interested in? If you want the company that is?"
