CAMMY CARTER

❥ PERSONALITY

Cammy is naive. Having lived a very sheltered life so far, despite having been raised by two heroes and a grandma, she really doesn't know much about the world. However, she tends to think positively, and when something doesn't go her way, she bounces back. Ever optimistic, she's eager to be the best she can be, and by the best she can be, she means the best, because Cammy was raised to accept no less!! She tries annoyingly hard to achieve the high standards her traditionalist grandfather has set for her, and disappointment is marked by nothing but determination to try harder in future. She has trouble accepting 'no' and more trouble accepting 'maybe' and she's persistent when she wants or needs something that she thinks will give her an edge. She's meticulously organized, her notes are colour coded, and all her information is tidy and accessible to her. However, though she's good at school, she's bad at people, and Cammy tends to stick to hanging out with her cat, Nyancat, or people who seem easy to please. She's bad at socializing and figuring out what people want from her, so the easier it is to make them like her, the better. Her biggest positive social influence was her grandmother, who raised her to be excessively polite and friendly, but not very good at connecting with children her own age. Even at her most socially confident, she acts a bit like an old woman, and at her worst she says exactly the wrong things and natters on like she hasn't even noticed. Her frequent social gaffes embarrass her constantly, so she's hesitant to try to make new friends, and tends to stick to people who don't seem intimidating. She's more confident in an academic environment, but also more driven- she gets childishly competitive around people she views herself to be in competition with. She has some inherited femme falate tics from her femme fatale supervillainess mother as well, and these crop up rather subconsciously- though she never knew who her mother was, she accidentally says a lot of innuendo puns when she feels confident, and she tends to have a bit of wiggle to her hips when she walks. She doesn't notice this, nor is she really sure what a femme fatale is at all, so the results are often mortifying for her when pointed out.

❥ HISTORY

Cammy was born to now-retired 80s hero Vivichromatic, whose powers were colour manipulation, and now-retired 80s femme fatale villainess, Demoiselle Noire, whose powers were colour draining. Cammy herself was raised by her father, who both sought to shut Demoiselle Noire out of his daughter's life, and was given her, as Demoiselle Noire didn't want the responsibility of a child. Cammy was thus raised as carefully and cautiously as possible. Her grandfather, Radiance, was already disapproving of her existing at all, as he was very traditional about these kinds of things, but if she became a villainess like her mother it would be an even bigger scandal. Thus Cammy was raised by her father and grandparents with great emphasis on what was 'right' and 'wrong' and almost no emphasis on who her mother was or sex. They all feared that Cammy would develop a femme fatale mentality, and she has begun to develop flashes of it, but her naivete about the issue ensures that she has no idea what to do about it, let alone how to use it for evil. In fact,t he only real female influence in her life is her grandmother, a clever and cheeky woman who has rather different ideas about how Cammy should be raised, but has left the matter mostly up to her errant son, who earnestly tries to shoulder the burden of raising a child. Her grandmother does her best to make sure Cammy at least has somewhat of a normal childhood, and buys all of Cammy's clothes, leaving her looking put-together, but incredibly old fashioned. Cammy's grandmother has grown into the role of her 'fun parent', and she's who Cammy talks to when she's particularly stressed or confused about social problems. She's failed to grow up into a supervillainess, fortunately for her, but instead grown up to be a real go-getter, interested in truth and justice and being the best for the common good. However idealistic she is though, she's functionally useless as a normal, trendy young girl, and instead acts like a strange, out of touch nerd in day to day life. She's never had much independence due to her family's worries that she'll take after her mother, so her biggest independent decision has been to attend Sidekick Academy instead of being trained by her father. This choice was made because she wants to be as good a hero as she can be, and also, secretly, she wants a little more freedom and an opportunity to try to find out who her mother is. Her grandmother is all well and good to talk to, but Cammy feels like all girls ought to have a mother, and since she knows nothing about who hers is, she's rather afraid that her mother might be dead.

❥ POWERS

Rainbow is able to change colours at will and also to change the colours of anything in her immediate vicinity, intentionally if she's making direct eye contact with it, and unintentionally if she's simply feeling strong emotions. She can change her own colour intentionally without looking at herself, much like you can tie back your hair without looking in a mirror.

❥ STRENGTHS

Cammy is very good with disorientation and camouflage. She's able to change colours so that she blends into a background or radically alter a background's colour to make it seem like something else.

❥ WEAKNESSES

The more complex the colour-shifting, the less stable it tends to be, if she were to hide in front of a portrait, all the different colours and blending would exhaust her far more than hiding in front of a plain blue screen. She's only able to recreate something complex as well as her own artistic eye lets her, so her attempting to blend into a portrait or the like would result in a Cammy-shaped part of the portrait that seemed more poorly painted than the rest. She also isn't the best sidekick physically speaking, and isn't exceptionally strong or flexible.

❥ STYLE

Cammy's relatively normal physical strength and lack of offensive powers means she's largely a tactician and support combatant, most useful for defense most of the time.

FAMILY

❥DADDY: VIVICHROMATIC/KENT CARTER
Current reporter for The Daily Gossip and former 80s superhero, Vivichromatic. As a rambunctious youth, he had a masterful control over colour manipulation, and also a less-than-masterful control over his emotions, which resulted in a one night stand with his supposed archnemesis, which resulted in Rainbow. A harried and worried father, he has little to no idea how to raise his daughter, and is constantly worrying about her, but he's a good guy on the whole. Not very clever, highly moralistic after his big goof, but definitely means well, and loves Cammy dearly. Somewhat frustrated with his dull life and secretly misses being a hero as well as pines after Cammy's mother.

❥MAMA: DEMOISELLE NOIRE/MELUSINE BLACK
Current wealthy Villainy Consultant and former antihero Demoiselle Noire, a one night stand with a nervous, nerdy Mr. Goody Two Shoes resulted in Cammy and the burden of unwanted responsibilities. Demoiselle Noire's colour sucking skills couldn't prevent pregnancy, but she bore the kid to term, then dumped her with her do-right dad, going back to a life of crime and checking in on Cammy secretly from time to time despite Kent's best efforts to stop her. Demoiselle Noire wasn't sure what she wanted from life when she had Cammy but knew she wasn't ready for commitment. Now, as a retired villainess and current consultant, she regrets missing out on mentoring her daughter, but feels too estranged to contact her again- at least by normal means.

❥GRANDPA: RADIANCE/RICHARD CARTER
Current owner of The Daily Gossip newspaper and former superhero, Radiance, Grandpa Carter has a mastery over both his household and colour manipulation. A relic from the golden age of superheroes, when the world was simple, morals were all-Crantellian, and there was a poodle skirt for every sock hop, Grandpa Carter is straightforward, bossy, and confident, and knows exactly how he wants things in his old age. The circumstances surrounding Rainbow's birth are a source of embarrassment for him, and he considers his son a failure for it, but he's gruffly fond of his granddaughter and would do anything for her. However, he holds her to his high standards, as he's determined not to make the same mistakes he did with his son with her, and so far she has yet to fail him. He's got a reputation in the superhero community, and his business, The Daily Gossip, employs a lot of superheroes who need a cover job.

❥GRANDMA: PHOEBE CARTER
Phoebe Carter is a former photographer for The Daily Gossip who met her husband when he was just a plucky boy reporter. They worked on several famous stories, and on one of them, she accidentally discovered his secret identity. He was mortified, but she swore to keep it a secret, and they grew closer because of it, eventually getting married after he retired from crimefighting. She had trouble raising a child with superpowers, but her optimistic go-get-em personality made her up to any challenge. She eventually retired from The Daily Gossip to do professional artistic photography and now owns a gallery for up and coming artists called The Radiant Room. She hopes to encourage Rainbow's artistic tendencies and secretly wishes Rainbow would give up on the superhero business. She loves Grandpa Carter, but thinks he applies too much pressure on Rainbow to follow in his footsteps better than her father did and wants her to develop her own sense of self.

❥BEST FRIEND/PET: NYANCAT
Nyancat is very judgemental and overprotective. To Cammy, he is perfectly charming and lovable, but he's watching everyone else. Like a tiny executioner, if you displease him, he will eat crayons and quietly vomit them into your shoes. However, if he deems you acceptable, he will sit on your head as a sign of his dominance and leave it at that. His favourite foods are crayons and pop tarts, but since he's a cat he can't really eat either of these things so Cammy has to take him to the vet for stomach pain a lot. Nyancat was the hideous result of a chemical explosion in a factory located next to a kitten daycare. He was one of Vivichromatic's last good deeds before retiring to be a full time dad, and Vivichromatic took him home for his daughter. Nyancat is as old as Cammy, but so far as anyone knows, the chemicals have made it so he leads a terrible and awe-inspiring immortal life. Cammy named him Nyancat because 'nyan' is the only thing he ever says, not an actual meow, but the word 'nyan', often in repetition, leading her family to believe that the chemicals also altered his vocal chords.
