It was a warm summer night when the festival began. The winds lightly danced over the trees, rustling the leaves on the branches. The paths were lit with paper lanterns, and under them were vendors with games and food. The sweet sizzling smells from the grills permeated the air, and the joyful sounds of the people at the shooting gallery made the atmosphere warm and pleasant. Everyone had forgotten about the curse from long ago as they happily walked by in their old fashioned kimonos, carrying happy little goldfish. They had forgotten that an assassin had been caught trying to kill a prominent noble lord 500 years ago had been buried under the festival grounds. This same also possessed gifts of magic given by the spirits of nature. As a precaution to keep the assassin from using magic in harmful ways, the villagers burned the body after the execution, and then built a shrine over the grave to keep the assassin's powers at bay. However, they did not know that before the assassin died, one last spell was cast that would revive the assassin 500 years later in order to seek revenge. This very night, the assassin is returning, but amid such a crowd dressed in traditional clothing, who could ever find this person? No one knows who he or she is anymore. Now that 500 years has passed, what would the assassin do?
Rules - Do not god-mod (ie: no killing off other characters, no being all powerful, no controlling other people's characters) - Be respectful of other roleplayers
How to Play - When you enter the story, you are yourself. You are attending the festival just like everyone else. - No character has been set to be the assassin, so use logic to try to figure out who it is. If you feel led to take on this role of the assassin, take it and have fun with it. Only, remember that there can only be one assassin. - Have fun with the story and shift and create plot points. I gave you a set-up. Now you have to make the story happen!

Chibi was elated as she walked up the stairs to the festival by the old shrine. She admired the white kimono with cherry blossoms that her mother let her borrow as she held up the sides to keep from stepping on it. She had never been to a shrine festival before moving to her new home a few months ago, so she had never had any reason to buy a kimono. The kimono was long on her, making it hard to walk around. In reality, "Chibi" was actually a nickname bestowed upon her by friends and family, teasing her about her short stature. She tried wearing high heeled shoes to make up for the difference in height, but it didn't quite work. After a not so short time, she finally reached the festival. Her nose was greeted with the smells of tasty foods and the sounds of fun games. She was so enthralled by all the sites and sounds that she didn't even notice the shines and seals in the dark, wooded background. Instead, she went to a takoyaki stand to get a snack while waiting on her friends to arrive.

Alvinette was so excited about the summer festival. She hadn't been to one in years, and she found herself wanting to do everything at once--catch a goldfish, try her skills at the shooting gallery, test her luck drawing lots, and, most of all, eat. Though her longtime nickname was "Alvinette" due to her love of Alvin and the Chipmunks, "Theodore" would have been a more fitting moniker; Alv was always a little on the chubby side, and she had to make her own kimono to accommodate her plump figure. Still, though, Alvinette felt beautiful in her black and purple kimono with its flowing material, and she was happy to be able to spend the day having fun with friends. Scanning the crowd, Alv spotted one of her best friends by one of the takoyaki stands.
"Chibi!" she called as she waved to her old friend.

Summer festivals. In LordM's opinion, it was the only thing that made going out in the heat bearable. Being of a slightly darker variety, extended periods of time in high heat locations tended to drain the young man, so he avoided over-exertion whenever possible. As such, for this very reason he had his own custom kimono made, one that was cool and fairly breathable, but also held onto his colourful style.... a tie-dye rainbow effect was splattered across the fabric, assaulting the eyes with brightness. His nickname, LordM, was in itself, a nickname... his real name was unknown even to himself, so he adopted the name, Marthelas. The sounds and lights of the festival were now coming into view as he approached, a smile creeping onto his face as he couldn't hold back his excitement any longer. Not only was this the first festival he had been to in years, he would also be meeting some friends here this time. Gazing over all the stands, stalls, and games, he wondered just where his friends would go first. Well, if it were me....
Grrrrglglllgglglgr The sound of a growling stomach cut him off mid-thought. "Hehehe, guess I'll go get some food and check out the stands over there." he said audibly to himself as he started towards the best smelling area of the festival. There were plenty of different stalls all offering multitudes of delectable delights, but the dango stand called out to him the most. Picking up not one but two sticks of the multi-coloured orbs of sweetness, he began to chow down in an almost voracious manner, a bit of an animalistic side showing through in his hunger. It was when he chomped onto the final piece of the first stick that he noticed two people who seemed somewhat familiar. He was unsure if he knew them, however, so before walking over there he would wave to the two, seeing if either of them recognized him as well, in an attempt to save some potential embarrassment.

Chibi walked aimlessly yet happily around the food stands, popping the little fried octopus balls in her mouth as she went. The food smelled so yummy, but she wondered if she had enough room in her stomach to try everything. It certainly wouldn't keep her from trying! She had just popped another takoyaki in her mouth when she heard her name. She turned her head to see her friend, Alv waving at her only a few feet away. She hurriedly chewed and swallowed that last bite as she ran over to meet Alv. "Hey!" she said. "I'm so glad I ran into you! I wasn't sure if I was going to run into anyone I knew tonight." She popped another takoyaki in her mouth, and suddenly realized that she was being rude. "I almost forgot!" she said with food still in her mouth, "Do you want one?" Being completely scatterbrained, she forgot to extend the tray of food when she noticed a familiar guy in a rainbow kimono. "Hey, doesn't that guy live on my street?" she said, finally remembering to hold out the food tray to her friend.

"Ah, thank you!" said Alvinette as she took a takoyaki from Chibi's proffered food tray and popped it in her mouth.
Then, after she finished the treat, she answered Chibi's question about the guy in the kimono of many colors. "I don't know. But I'm pretty sure I've seen him around quite a bit. Maybe we should go over and introduce ourselves."

Chibi popped the last piece of takoyaki into her mouth, and threw away the plastic holder in a trash bin just a few feet behind her. She walked backed to Alv, joining her. As they were walking together towards the guy in the rainbow kimono, Chibi turned to Alv and said, "Okay, let's go say hi. I just wish I could remember exactly how I know that guy. It's always so awkward in these situations."

His approach seemed to be taken well enough. The two didn't seem confused to the fact he was reaching out to them, so maybe they were people he knew. He'd find out soon anyway, since they were coming to meet him. "I'm sure I know you two from somewhere, but I just can't remember where. It must've been a while since we've seen each other?" he asked, trying to figure it out.

Being fairly new to this country, Queen will be seeing everything for the first time. The aromas have Queen's stomach rumbling. She decides to sample a little from each food stand as she goes down the line. Queen also likes to play games and these look very interesting. Having eaten enough that would equal a meal Queen decides to stop at a culture club booth and learn how to play Go. With all the excitement and different things all going on it's a lucky thing that Queen brought pen, paper, and a camera in which to record the evening.

((Time to shake things up! Sorry that I haven't posted in a couple days. I've literally been gone almost every waking hour.))
Chibi was enjoying chatting with her new acquaintance when suddenly the ground shook. She heard cries coming from the old temple in the background, so she ran to see what was going on. She was shocked to see the string of ancient seals broken into pieces. Though she didn't know much about this place, she knew that something must be terribly wrong. She turned to fellow people in the crowd and started trying to get some answers.

Still reeling from the literally earth-shaking events of the past few minutes, Alv recovered enough presence of mind to follow Chibi and try to find out what in the world was going on.
"Chibi, wait up!" she cried. Alv squirmed her way through the panicking crowd until she caught up with Chibi.

((I was waiting for someone else to join in, but maybe we should just go ahead and slightly break the rules a little for the sake of continuity.))
Chibi was soon joined by her friend, Alvinette after she had managed to push her way through the crowd. The people around were in a state of panic, and everywhere were the worried sounds of yells and mutters. They kept saying things such as, "the legend," "tonight," "assassin," "return," "no one knows." After a while, Chibi was able to piece together enough of the story to know that she was in danger, but that there was no way of knowing who she should stay away from until it was too late. She looked around the crowd, wondering if any of the people around her might be the assassin of lore.
((If you want your character to be the assassin, you could always use possession to give a reason as to why your character has a known history.))
