First, link to the song if you haven't heard it:
HereFirst thread here, so please hear me out; it's just an idea for season three's Grilled Cheesus/Funeral episode. Something as dramatic as these two episodes were...
The show begins with Brittany simply walking across the street toward McKinley. She looks both ways, like she was always told to, and a drunk driver (yes, this happens at 7~8 in the morning) flies out of nowhere and hits her. Santana witnesses this, and is traumatized. Someone else calls 9-11. After everything is taken care of on the street, a new scene is shown in which Santana, Will, and Emma run into the hospital to ask about Brittany. They are told that she is currently in the OR, and in critical condition, but alive.
Other events transpire as well in this episode. But long story short, Santana feels bad about not being the one to call 9-11.
Near the end of the episode, about three days after the accident, Santana visits the hospital alone. She asks where Brittany's room is, and is told it is just down the hall.
When she gets in the room, we hear Brittany's faint heartbeat, then Santana's heartbeat. thump thump thump thump
Then we hear Brittany's heart rhythm monitor. beep beep beep beep
This is the intro to the song. However, there is another cutaway to Santana arguing with the nurse.
"I'm sorry, only family and loved ones are allowed to visit her. She's in a coma."
"I'm her girlfriend! Her best friend! You have to let me see her!"
The intro to the song continues, and Santana begins to sing the song; it is a duet with Brittany in an imaginary setting. Another nurse finally allows Santana. There, she sings the song to Brittany. The show ends with Santana holding Brittany's hand, and she looks up to see the nurse leaving the room to let them be alone. She mouths thank you through her tears. There is another close-up on their hands. But there is no movement.
There would be a happy resolution in the next episode, of course. Brittana would be a reality.
This episode would deal with both drunk driving (again, yes, but it is an important issue) and visitation rights in hospitals to gay couples.
Thoughts? I just sort of had this flash into my head when I heard the song for the first time. Behind this song is a very touching story; Stefani/Lady Gaga began it while drinking with her father, and then finished it after witnessing her grandfather die, holding hands with his wife; her grandmother. Brittany and Santana are my favorite characters, and I would hate and love this storyline so much. I'm not the best writer, especially when writing with emotion.
Feel free to ask questions about gaps.
