Does hopping on a computer count?
How about playing an MMORPG?
If neither of those count then...NOPE! *laughs*

In this day and age where almost everyone has a computer and plays video games... I don't think so.
But I used a virtual computer HDD to play an old MSDOS tomb raider game, that won't play on my XP, using my DOS boot disk to load the cd-rom driver and then copy the save files over from it using the "command line copy command" so I could start with unlimited ammo on the UZIs...
Is that geeky?
Besides, I'm proud of being a geek EVERYDAY !!!

That's not geeky either V_V
Most phone-obsessed teens do that ^^;
Yesterday I dismantled a PS2 down to the main board just to clean it...
POP QUIZ !!! HOW MANY RIBBON CABLES ARE ON THE "DISK-LOADING/READING" SECTION !?!? Answer ---> [there are 4 ribbon cables attaching that part to the main board]

I know. *flops over* But, then again ... "Geek" is sort of the "in thing" most places now. Sooooo, anything geeky could also be considered as trendy. I'm messing with codes & graphics making a new profile for myself now, so I guess that could be considered slightly geeky. [ ... rinioa .... ]

Yes, that is definately more geeky then buying a cell phone case.
The way I figure it, if "being geeky" is the "in thing" then that means that less things can be considdered, being TRULY geeky. For example, buying and setting up some new hardware is no longer geeky. Especially sence most people do that with game consoles these days.
So to be trully geeky, you have to work even harder to understand and do things that at least 50% of the population can't understand. (or do something that most wouldn't be able to do)
Now me, I'm geeky because I can build a computer from the parts, install the operating system and all the hardware drivers, and mess with the system settings to get it the way I like. Most people just buy an "off the shelf" pre-assembled computer, and then don't even make sure that the OS disk comes with it. (so they have to actually PAY someone else to fix it when it breaks)

Just because something is becoming popular, that doesn't make it less of whatever it is. Geeky is still geeky, whether two people are doing it or two thousand. What you're talking about, dude, is venturing into nerd territory. Unless you're trying to use the oldest etymological definition of the word "geek." But that has another definition as well that's somewhat less appealing. xp
But my point is that video games are still geeky, regardless of how popular they've become. Same for computers actually, despite their modern usage. Computers invented the modern geekdom, so playing with their descendants seems appropriate to me for geek day. Cell phone cases, however, are more about form than function, so I think that's not quite geeky. xd

Reminds me of the saying: "I was into that back when it WASN'T cool"
The more people do it, the less unique it becomes. And people that do it, "just because it's popular or IN" are NOT geeks. They can't possibly understand true geekdom.

My dad and uncle were into building computers and gaming systems from scratch. They taught me all about that stuff at a very young age. But, because it was something that ended up somewhat forced upon me, I totally lost interest in it as I became older. If I really sat down and put my mind to it, then I could still do it, but I don't get any satisfaction out of it the way I did when I was young. [ ... rinioa .... ]
