I want to start a band--but not like a garage band. I want to create a fictional band, working under a fictional label, writing and producing real songs.

I need at least one partner, but no more than 3. The ability to play a guitar and/or drums is a big plus. I'm more of a lyricist, so if someone is more of a melody-ist, please let me know. Also required is the willingness to, within all reason, put this project in your top 10 priorities. The goal of the project is to produce at least one album with 10 songs in a general rock/techish style, with plenty of wiggle room for personal expression. The pieces of the songs will be recorded separately or completely synthesized and mixed together for the final song--thus no practice time, no jam sessions, and no need to live in nearby zip codes.

I'd like to release the songs through 2012 via You-tube and a band-specific website. I'd also like to offer the CD for purchase, as well as some t-shirts, just for kicks. If the stars align and this project doesn't totally bottom out by 2011 and of we make any money above and beyond the cost of running the website, profits will be split evenly between all partners.

Are there any takers?

I wouldn't want to try to cram everything in one summer--I was thinking we could spread it out over 18 months. ^_^ We can make a schedule of deadlines to help keep us on track, and pace ourselves so that it never becomes too much.

Well, I've got experience with singing, I'm going to be taking violin lessons over the summer and possibly later on, I've also got piano skills.

That's about it, but I have a YouTube account if you need a singer, lol... If not, I won't be a bunch of help. (unless I'm some sort of prodigy with the violin... =.= Doubt that.)

I was thinking we could do most of it digitally with musical freeware. I'm currently experimenting with different programs to see which one would meet our needs. The only thing we'll really need to record live would be singing and maybe a solo or two.

Well Me and my wife are both musicians and we can compose as well as play... she said she might be interested and she's the better of the two of us. I don't compose but I can sing and play woodwinds...

Ooh, I'm all excited!

Twi--that's what I'm working on too. So far I've tried out Audacity, MuseScore, Sound Tap, Zulu DJ, Chord Song and Mixpad. They're all freeware, which is really nice. They all have SOMETHING I like, but I haven't gotten good enough at one to really make it work. If you know/find any other music programs you want me to try out, let me know.

Foxfyre--Sounds awesome. If you two are interested for the long haul, I'd love to have you. This is probably going to be an 18-ish MONTH project, so make sure you can tolerate me that long. razz

It will probably be my wife that can help the most. I'll make sure she is interested and If I can be of help then I will but my musical talent is lacking compared to hers...

Fruity Loops is awesome, but it can be a little upsetting to use because some of the better sound packages need to be purchased, ad ceertain instruments don't sound right on it. but you can easily bootleg it to not have to pay.

there's a version that also comes with Decadance, which is a DJing program attachment.

whatever works, I say it's best to also get your hands on a .wav converter and find someone who can play some of the more difficult intruments to mimic digitally, such as Guitar or Saxaphone.

also, you can use it to come up with your own Samplemedia and Synth effects! smile

I was just checking out some software at Best Buy, and I'm totally wishing I had an extra $70 for Music Creator and Anime Studio 6. razz I think I'll start selling commissions again and see if I can save up for that. ^_^

So I found some non-downloadable software that I'm going to tinker with after I get some rest: JamStudio and Avery Music Creator. It's nifty because you write the music online and then save it either to a user login or to your computer--so no waiting hours for the mega-sized files to download on your computer! mrgreen I'll let you know my reviews, but feel free to check it out on your own.
