or at least thats what im going to start saying next time someone asks me what i do for a living. most of our adult friends have gone to college and have good paying jobs. so does my fiance. me? i stopped going to college over a year ago and have no job and its a little embarassing the looks i get from some people when they find this out about me. its not like i dropped out to be a housewife, i didnt know what i wanted to do so instead of wasting my money taking random classes i decided to take a break until i figure out what i want to do. and ive just had bad luck getting a job this year thanks to the economy. ive had some job offers but they were from family and friends and i would prefer not to work for family or friends
sorry about the rant but its just been getting on my nerves for a while

I understand your reasoning there, but when future employers are looking at an application and see that its been quite a while since your last job, they won't want to hire you. I wouldn't want to work with family/friends either, but you may need to just for a little while until you can find a different job.

Whiskey On A Sunday I understand your reasoning there, but when future employers are looking at an application and see that its been quite a while since your last job, they won't want to hire you. I wouldn't want to work with family/friends either, but you may need to just for a little while until you can find a different job. once we move back to my dad's area ive got some good connections so i will be able to get a job then if i want to so im not worried about that

Wow.. I actually can really relate. >: I do have my job, at least, but the college thing sounds just like me. No idea what I want to do, staying out until I have a clue. Eech. Rhyme. Sorry.
I dunno where you are, but if in your region there are any jobs at all, go after them. Even McDonald's is better than nothing if you really don't want to work for family/friends. Stay on top of them and bug the hell out of the people who are supposed to call you for an interview. I had to do that a couple years ago. I got a job in clothing retail. YUCK! But it was a job, I could pay for gas and food and bills. Then I signed out with them once I got on at my current job, after nine months of hell and wanna-look-rich-without-paying-the-price bitches. Clothing retail... Never again... ;-;
Ranting is good. It's a good release. Dunno if you wanted any advice or not, but feel free to disregard it if you like. x3

UGH! I know the feeling. I just tell people that cleaning up after him is a full time job for now.

Sometimes, taking random classes is how you figure out what you want to do. I started out in media arts, and realized I wanted to be a vet tech. Way off of the random classes I was taking. But being in college in itself opens job oppertunities, for me that was dog grooming, from there I decided I wanted to go into dog training, asked the owner of Cowboy's school how to go about that. She said a degree in animal health is a necessity for her employes. When I got my media arts diploma, I had to decide what to do next. University? Photography? Film Production? Considered doing a course to be a guide for outdoor trips an idea I got from being in the outdoor adventure club during my college years. (also learned to white water kayak and rock climb) and finally figured animal health was the way for me. Now that I'm in it, I think I like the health aspect even more than the behavior. Think I'd like to work in a clinic, and thanks to a guest speeker, my dream is now to become a canine physiotherapist. So I'll probably need to gain some experience, work my way into one of two hospitals in Quebec that have canine rehab, and then discuss getting certified to be a rehab assistant since I need to stage under a certified vet. I might change my mind again and again but I never thought of the money i've spent as wasted. I learned A LOT from my first college. Loved the experience, met lots of people. The classes I took were helpful in my every day life. Especially the gyms, I learned so much about clothing materials, nutrition etc. I had a class on environmental biology, all my photography courses and film courses, well that knowledge comes in handy every day. When I'm filming or photographing Cowboy or anything really.
I think college here is a good deal cheaper though lol. Univeristy is expensive but college is like, 150 bucks a semester, books can be bought second hand rather cheap.

i was calling and checking up on my applications at first, but still nothing. i know im being too picky with where i work but i refuse to do fast food, i have a fear of boiling oil and i cannot get near it without freaking out
@ gabby i was just taking random classes for a while but after a couple years i started feeling like i was wasting my father's money. it was just community college so it wasnt as bad as a university but still expensive. right now im just doing little odd jobs here and there for human interaction more than the money. the fiance's job has been paying well enough where im not in a rush to work, i just need human interaction. i may end up vonunteering again

Believe it or not it looks good on a job application and you can learn valuable skills while doing so.

Lol you should see the looks me and my husband get when we tell people we are both stay at home! He works from home designing websites and programming and I help where I can or look after the dogs. Everyone in my family thinks that we're nuts for it but he makes good money so whatever.
