I'm having so much trouble getting eggs!!! (less so today, than the last time I tried ... but still).
Is anyone else having trouble? gonk

I definitely am. I think they intentionally made the hunt this hard, not a glitch. I've been working at it since...Wednesday night? And I've only 150 something eggs. It's going to be impossible to do with all the mules.
The bunny hunt is a lot easier since there's threads that point out where to get them.

You can collect them a lot of different ways - visiting Gaia pages, games, home page, buying items in the MP, listing in the MP, sending a PM/friend request, etc. When you get 40+ bunnies, there will be an item waiting for you in your inventory! I have it equipped as the orange bunny in the corner of my avatar.
