Age: 24 Gender: [X] Male [ ] Female
1. A clear definition of what constitutes as feminine or masculine is:
[ ] Extremely Important [ ] Very Important [X] Not Very Important [ ] Not at all Important
2. Human sexuality is considered to be open and is not restricted to labels.
[ ] Strongly Agree [ ] Agree [X] Neither Agree nor Disagree [ ] Disagree [ ] Strongly Disagree
3. What is your sexual orientation?
[ ] Straight [ ] Gay [ ] Lesbian [ ] Bisexual [ ] Transgender [X] Other: Queer
4. Do you agree or disagree with labeling people based on their sexuality? Explain.
Labels (adjectives) facilitate conversation and relationships of all kinds. They simplify and aid in understanding. Not everyone feels their sexuality can be described by the usual "labels". There's nothing wrong with that, but I am definitely in favour of using adjectives in place of lengthy explanations about one's sexuality, where appropriate.
5. Do you tend to use labels everytime you engage in a conversation with someone?
[x] Yes [ ] No
(This question seems odd to me, even in context of the survey. In a general sense, while every sentence you speak may not include an adjective, any sort of meaningful conversation is difficult without them. If you're referring to labels for human sexuality...who, exactly, only converses about sexuality? More so, why would I try to discuss sexuality without the use of common terms like "gay", "straight", or "bi", even if I am not someone who enjoys using such terms, or feels that they apply to me?)
6. Labels limit self-expression.
[ ] Strongly Agree [ ] Agree [x] Disagree [ ] Strongly Disagree
7. Coming out is:
[ ] Very Important [ ] Important [x] Neutral [ ] Not Very Important [ ] Not At All Important
Depends entirely on the individual and their circumstances.
8. Did you come out to someone yet? [X] Yes [ ] No 9. If yes, to whom did you come out to? Originally? My friends. I'm not in the closet at all at this point, though. 10. What was their response during and after you came out? Neutral or positive.
11. How old were you when you came out? 15 to friends, 16 in general 12. Have you been bullied or harassed at school for being GLBTQ or just perceived to be?
[x] Yes [ ] No
13. Did you tell someone about it? [ ] Yes [x] No. Explain. I didn't really tell anyone, no. Maybe some of my friends? This was about 10 years ago, I don't really remember.
14. What solution did you come up with? I ignored it for the most part. At the time, I saw no other solution, and in retrospect I still see no other alternatives.
15. Have you witnessed any form of harassment or bullying with regards to the victim being GLBTQ or just perceived to be? [X] Yes [ ] No
16. Did you tell someone about it? [ ] Yes [X] No. Explain. It's complicated. At the time, I was in school, and I was not friends with the victims (they were several years younger than me, I doubt they knew who I was). I'm not sure who, exactly, I could have told, aside from the school administration. If I had done that, the school may have contacted the victim's parents. If they were actually queer, this may have resulted in them being outed to their family. All in all, quite a mess.
17. Does your school have a gay-straight alliance?
[ ] Yes [X] No (I am no longer in school, but at the time, no.)
18. Is it:
[ ] Very helpful [ ] Helpful [ ] Not Very Helpful [ ] Not Very Helpful
19. Have you experienced internalized homophobia (discrimination towards oneself for being gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, etc.)?
[X] Yes [ ] No
20. If yes, please explain it in brief detail. I was raised in a Roman Catholic family, and when I was younger I questioned whether my sexuality was something wrong with me, or whether I would be punished in the afterlife for engaging in homosexual behaviour. I no longer experience these feelings, and haven't for a long time.

When I first starting having sexual attraction towards women, I became very confused, (because girls were supposed to like boys, not girls) and that confusion became self-hatred, which then expanded to a hatred of all LGBT people. I became suicidal. I knew that being homosexual was a hard life, and I didn't want that. It took me over a year to finally accept that I might be different.

20. If yes, please explain it in brief detail. As I've admitted several times, I was in severe denial of my sexuality, and ashamed to even consider such things. I kind of wanted to have the normal life with a wife and kids, and felt that homosexuality could not provide that. I was also ashamed of how those around me might react, thought it was something that would make my life difficult, and that it was something that made me abnormal. I've since gotten over such feelings, and I am now on good terms with my sexuality. Basically, I now know nothing is wrong with me, and that I can have the family of my dreams.

Age: 21 Gender: [ ] Male [X] Female
1. A clear definition of what constitutes as feminine or masculine is:
[ ] Extremely Important [ ] Very Important [X] Not Very Important [ ] Not at all Important
2. Human sexuality is considered to be open and is not restricted to labels.
[X] Strongly Agree [ ] Agree [ ] Neither Agree nor Disagree [ ] Disagree [ ] Strongly Disagree
3. What is your sexual orientation?
[ ] Straight [ ] Gay [ ] Lesbian [X] Bisexual [ ] Transgender [ ] Other: ___________
4. Do you agree or disagree with labeling people based on their sexuality? Explain. I don't particularly care for labels in general -- they're much too open to interpretation and no set definition that is commonly understood -- but it would be nigh impossible to get by without them. Let me put it this way: I checked "bisexual" in the above question. Mostly because "Biromantic demisexual with a strong preference for women" is rather confusing. I'll crush on both men and women equally, but would only ever hold a more-than-romantic relationship with a woman. This, to many people, would mean that I'm just a flat out lesbian. But in my mind, that joint interest in the males of the species means more bisexual. In sumnation, most people would rather hear a simple "I'm straight/gay/lesbian/bisexual/whatever" and take their assumptions from there than get a full out grocery list of who a person would and would not prefer to have sexual relations with. Thus, labels are useful. Annoying, but useful.
5. Do you tend to use labels everytime you engage in a conversation with someone?
[X] Yes [ ] No
6. Labels limit self-expression.
[ ] Strongly Agree [ ] Agree [X] Disagree [ ] Strongly Disagree
7. Coming out is:
[ ] Very Important [ ] Important [X] Neutral [ ] Not Very Important [ ] Not At All Important
8. Did you come out to someone yet? [X] Yes [ ] No 9. If yes, to whom did you come out to? A friend of mine first, then my parents, then my now-girlfriend. 10. What was their response during and after you came out? Friend: "OMG, you actually have a crush on someone!" (This was actually the reaction I got from almost all of my friends. >.> I'm almost insulted.)
Parents: Dad didn't care, mom went on a several month long rampage wherein she accused my then crush, now girlfriend of 'turning me lesbian' and several other things, kicking me out of the house several times (I spent one week sleeping in my truck in the parking lot where I work, because I ran out of gas and was too stubborn to accept the offers of gas money/a place to sleep from my co-workers.), and sending me to therapy so they could 'fix me'. She eventually got over it, and is now just a bit weird about it. She doesn't like to see us hold hands or hug or anything, and is paranoid about her friends finding out, but is otherwise trying to be supportive.
My now-Girlfriend: Was actually astonished and stunned into silence. (She'd had a crush on me for some time, but had convinced herself it was hopeless until I suddenly confess to her.)
11. How old were you when you came out? 20 12. Have you been bullied or harassed at school for being GLBTQ or just perceived to be?
[X] Yes [ ] No
13. Did you tell someone about it? [ ] Yes [X] No. Explain When I was younger -- like, jr high and early high school -- I was often accused of being a lesbian and got a lot of lewd remarks for it, because of my refusal to date any of the guys that asked me. It wasn't really bothering me that much; I'm terribly hard to offend, and if one crossed the line, I throw a damn good punch. In effect, there was no reason to tell someone; once the guys figured out that I was no fun -- they either got ignored or beat up by a girl -- they gave up, and the girls were just being catty. It's high school. That's how girls are.
14. What solution did you come up with? Er, see above?
15. Have you witnessed any form of harassment or bullying with regards to the victim being GLBTQ or just perceived to be?
[ ] Yes [X] No
16. Did you tell someone about it? [ ] Yes [ ] No. Explain. N/A
17. Does your school have a gay-straight alliance?

18. Is it:
[ ] Very helpful [ ] Helpful [X] Not Very Helpful [ ] Not Very Helpful
19. Have you experienced internalized homophobia (discrimination towards oneself for being gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, etc.)?
[X] Yes [ ] No
20. If yes, please explain it in brief detail. I went through a brief period of it before I really realized that I wasn't the only girl who liked other girls. I live in a smallish, Christian community; I actually never encountered anyone from the GLBT community until late high school, when a small band of students petitioned the principal to let them do a speech on GLBT acceptance for the school. It was allowed (with strict guidelines of what could and could not be said). Before then, I just thought I was weird for liking girls and sort of loathed myself for it, because I was weird enough without tacking that on.
