((Stuuuupid name. XD Please forgive me.))

Izaya sighed contentedly and leaned back in his chair by the window. How he enjoyed watching random passerbys as they made their way to and fro on the sidewalk outside the tiny, cramped shop. Cramped as it was, though, Izaya liked the atmosphere. There was always an interesting bit of gossip floating around; some newest rumor about the happenings in Camphoreon City. This was just as well, because as much as he enjoyed observing humans, when they went about doing the same thing every single day, it really wasn't any fun at all to predict their actions.

The young man usually preferred tea, but once in a while coffee wasn't so bad. He reached forward to put the straw to his lips, slowly sipping the warm liquid as he stared distractedly out the window. This was the usual table he sat at while waiting for the particular client he was supposed to meet with today. Of course, he was early, but he couldn't help wondering what it was about. There didn't seem to be too much going on in the city as of late. What could she have wanted to know about?

It was only a few months short of a year since the serial jewel heists attached to the name "Bouquet" disappeared from Camphoreon's crime reports. The former thief, now an agent for Team Rocket, couldn't help but consider the years of her life spent under the pseudonym as she proceeded towards her destination. It was a twisted sort of nostalgia, she was aware, but there was something warming about the thoughts nonetheless. It was a bit bittersweet, knowing that the cause of her lifestyle was a simple misunderstanding - or perhaps a lie - but she found it hard to regret the direction her life had taken. Look at how she had grown over those years: she had a job she believed in, a team she supported and that supported her in return, even a proper home. But that was erring a bit too close to the threshold of sentimentality, and so she discarded the thoughts with a quiet sigh. There was a task at hand.

A small bell on the cafe's door jingled as Aila passed through, sparing a glance around the establishment. Mm. She was early, but he was earlier. She first proceeded to the counter and ordered and received her beverage, a subtle click of her heels noting her procession across the floor and towards the occupied table. She rested her cup upon the table, tucked her skirt properly, and seated herself. "Long time no see," she greeted with a casual tone that might have surprised her company. Her strict adherence to formalities had dulled considerably since they had last spoken; the cold young noble from the past had become a mild 17-year-old girl over the past year.

Smiling silently to himself, Izaya's gaze remained downcast toward his phone on the table before him, even as he heard Aila come in. He made no indication that he was aware of her appearance until after she approached his table. "So true," he replied to her greeting, looking up from his phone at last to offer her a tender smile. "Glad to see you're doing well, in any case, Alia-chan." Withdrawing his cell from the table top, he tucked it away into his coat pocket before giving a low chuckle. "Or are you? You seem so different, now. It's almost scary."

He met her pink irises and regarded them inquisitively, propping his elbows up onto the table and interlocking his hands to rest his chin upon. "Whatever happened to that crisp, frigid little lady I remember from not-so-long-ago? Has she suddenly decided to be easy-going around me because she's decided that we're good-enough friends?" Izaya tilted his head, sipping from his straw once again.

To him, Alia seemed more confident and less guarded, as he had taken her formal mannerisms to indicate a certain unseen line she wouldn't allow anyone - not even herself - to cross. Whether it was due to self-discipline, insecurity, a combination, or something entirely different, he wasn't sure. Still, it was fun to speculate. The girl had always intrigued him with a sense of mystery about her.

"Oh?" She sipped at her iced coffee with a smile that could almost have been called a smirk. "I'm glad to see my work's paid off." Indeed, ever since Nyx had accused her of being stuck-up based solely on her manner of speech, Aila had researched and practiced until she become able to speak casually out of pure habit. Of course there was also the possibility that her change was inevitable, after everything that had happened. She no longer consciously sought to isolate herself, she no longer desperately clung to her ideals of nobility, she no longer pursued the revenge she had found to be empty...

Another sip from her beverage punctuated her thoughts. "She's had a lot of adjustments to make," she replied, cupping her hands around the base of the plastic container upon returning it to the table. Curiously she toyed with the realization that when she had last spoken to the man, she wouldn't have known how to define 'easy-going' or 'friend.' Well, but that was a sappy thought. "I found work a while ago, actually. Teamwork-centric work, so my mannerisms were a bit counterproductive." A small pride bloomed in her damask eyes. "That you've noticed means I've done a good job, hm?"

"Indeed I have," he agreed, taking the corner of a napkin and folding it absently. "So that's what's inspired such a change in you. It must be some job if you were willing to forgo your ways in order to fit in. It seems to really have been worth your while, being a part of this team of yours."

Leaning back against his chair once more, he crossed his arms and legs, stirring his slowly-cooling coffee with his straw as he observed Alia thoughtfully. "So...if you don't mind me getting right to the point...to what do I owe the pleasure of this meeting?"
PostPosted: Sun Apr 17, 2011 2:40 pm

"Mm... That's accurate, yes." 'Worthwhile' was a good way to describe her venture. She scarcely valued any other decision in her life more than the one she had made when confronted by Nadja the summer evening so many months prior.

Cutting to the chase, then. "I was curious how your own work has been going recently," she said, continuing to beat slightly around the bush. There was a limit to what could be directly said in a public place, after all. "There's a chance my occupation would have a place for someone with your skill set, but I don't wish to be too forward."

Izaya blinked in astonishment. "Curious? About my work?" No one he knew had ever really concerned themselves with him, let alone his work, unless it benefited them some how. There was a reason he had no friends; no attachments or ties other than business connections. He decided to be cautious, but retained a calm smile as he sipped some more of his cooling coffee.

"Hehe...truth be told, it's been pretty boring as of late," he admitted, noting mentally that she was still refraining from the main reason of her call. And with Aila's usual no-nonsense attitude, this uncharacteristic skirting-around-the-topic was puzzling. Something was definitely up. "Why do you ask?"

It was a few minutes while he allowed her comment to sink in. He spent those minutes slowly sucking up the last of his coffee through his straw; whipped cream and all. Finally, he sat up and faced Aila with all seriousness. "That's quite flattering. Come to think of it, I've had a lot of spare time on my hands recently. I take it this work is more serious than your average day job?" he added, testing the water with a raised brow and a grin. "I'm all ears."

"A bit more serious, I would say," she affirmed with a nod. "You know the sort of work that interests me." Or she assumed he did, considering she only ever came to him with requests for information regarding items that tended to disappear within a week after their meeting. "Housing and meals are provided as well as spaces for recreation. There are also numerous opportunities to put a variety of skills to the test. Never a dull moment, one would say." She leaned forward slightly, setting her elbows on the table and resting her chin on intertwined fingers. "The catch is that it's a rather large commitment. Enough of a commitment that if I explain much more, I'm afraid you may lose your right to decline," she warned.

"Yes, that's right..." he murmured, thinking back to their previous meetings. "I remember." He lowered his voice. "One might call that sort of work petty thievery, though. If your occupation requires teamwork, I'd assume it's part of something...larger."

Hearing her out as she elaborated on the benefits of the position, Izaya became more and more curious. These employers of Aila had to be pretty wealthy to offer such provisions for all of their employees...but if their work really was as weighty as the impression Aila gave, it might have made sense. What was more, everyone involved must have had really tight lips if even he, an information broker, hadn't heard about them before being directly offered a position among them.

"Tests of skills...sounds like fun," he agreed, chuckling. "That's a tempting offer indeed, Miss Aila-chan. And while you say it's a large commitment, I really don't see what I've got to lose." He beamed at her. "That makes sense. But I don't think that'll be a problem. Do we need to move elsewhere to discuss further details? My apartment's free at the moment, if you'd like."

Her own volume lowered in kind, "My, petty thievery? Well, I suppose you could call it that, compared to what I'm doing now." Indeed, compared to what she was doing now, the jewel heists of which she had been so proud seemed like pick-pocketing. "It is a fair bit larger, yes. Much more involved as well, and also quite rewarding." Especially now that she was able to work in her department proper.

"Mm, it would probably be wise to relocate," she affirmed with a gaze that indicated it was less a case of wisdom and more one of necessity. She was familiar with the feeling of having nothing to lose, even more familiar with the desire to test her own potential. If her evaluation of his reaction was accurate, then she felt she had been correct to approach him with her offer.

"Well I can't very well call them what they were, can I?" Izaya snickered. "Those were some pretty famous heists. I wouldn't dare mention them here in such company. That might get us both in trouble," he pointed out, continuing to grin at her. "If this is bigger, though, it must really be something. What could be more rewarding than the trophies of your...previous excursions?"

He got up and pushed in his chair, walking around the table to offer her a hand up. "Shall, we, then?" His grin broadened as he leaned over to whisper, "I hope you don't mind - strictly business and all - but it might seem less suspicious if we head to my apartment as a couple. Nothing too drastic; you can just slip your arm through mine. Shouldn't be too much of a problem with your new-and-improved attitude, mmm?" He gave a low chuckle. "Just remember~ it's all just an act. You can hit me when we get there if it makes you feel better." Without warning, he moved closer to kiss her cheek.

"You flatter me." A slight smirk accompanied her airy tone. Truthfully she had been quite proud the first time her alias appeared in the newspaper, even more so when the more paranoid and pretentious jewelers planned defensive measures with her in mind specifically. "Much of that was thanks to your information, though, so I certainly can't claim all the glory."

The offered hand was met with a mild confusion before she heard his explanation. Allowing his assistance, she replied with a cordial smile, though a certain coldness glinted in her damask eyes. She craned her neck to further close the distance, leaving a few inches as quiet breathing room. "A younger sister might be a better guise, given my stature against yours, but I'll let you make the call here." She had been researching and training with drama for much of her time with Team Rocket, and while she had never practiced her skills before an audience proper, she had at least improved to the point that she was trusted with the occasional disguised infiltration assignment. She wasn't above letting him write her script, though she retained the right to improvise.

The remainder of the distance was closed unexpectedly, and when he faced her once more he would find her expression momentarily disapproving, a steely glare daring him to try and press his luck. Her features would return to the gentle smile in short order, and she would reach to lock her hand with his, gesturing with the other, "Lead the way, then."

Izaya laughed at her alternative suggestion. "That might have worked, except my real sisters are lurking around this city somewhere, and it's likely they could blow our cover just to spite me if they noticed us. Especially if we were pretending you were taking their place," he mused.

Though she had definitely changed since last he'd seen her, Izaya hadn't expected the young woman to take to his given scenario so easily and without complaint. The 'team' she spoke of really must have taught her a variety of skills, including flexibility and improv. She certainly knew how to adapt to a situation when needed, and she wasn't a bad actress, either.

The young man paused, waiting for more of a reaction than the glare - a physical reprimand, perhaps. Well, he was impressed. She had remarkable self-discipline to keep from doing much more than that around others, though he couldn't say what she would do to him once they were out of the public eye. He giggled mildly at her reaction, cute as he found it, before nodding and going to open the door for her. "Ladies first."

"Can't be helped, then," she murmured thoughtfully. Sure enough, she wouldn't have even suggested he pose as her brother if she suspected there were any chance that they would run into Leon in transit. Strange that he had sisters, though... She somehow wouldn't have expected that from him. Perhaps that was an unfair conclusion to reach, though.

Aila was indeed holding onto his permission to hurt him, saving it for a moment when she felt it would be an appropriate response. Thus far his pushes on her boundaries had been light. She had been only mildly offended and yet to feel any sense of disgrace. As it was, she was content with the prospect of having some control over his duties as his superior should he choose to enlist, and he seemed to have at least the beginnings of an intent to do so.

With a word of thanks, she exited through the opened door and waited expectantly for him to indicate the direction in which they'd be headed. Her role was that of the girl who was visiting her boyfriend's apartment for the first time, evidently.

With a smug smile, the informant gently took her hand as he lead her to his apartment. He guessed he hadn't known about his siblings - few did. He didn't like to talk about them or associate himself with them. The troublesome twin girls were among the very few humans he found 'unlovable', despite claiming to habor a love toward all humankind. They were just too much like him.

Though Izaya realized he was trusting the young woman with a lot, should she decide to turn on him, he was always prepared to evacuate his apartment at a moment's notice. Should she have decided to send people to his place to abduct, harm, or possibly kill him, he had taken extra measures to be prepared. He found it often payed to be prepared. On the other hand, if these employers of Aila's were everything she said they were, he wouldn't have been needing to stay in his apartment much longer anyway.

"Here we are," he said finally, taking out a key to unlock the door and remove his shoes. "Make yourself at home. We shouldn't be disturbed here." He gestured to the living room area, which was pretty tidy with small steps descending into a pit in the center of the floor. In the pit was some couches and a coffee table. Instead of moving toward these, however, the young man moved toward his desk by the large window of the apartment. He drew the blinds to give them some privacy before going over to a couch and taking a seat. Patting the place beside him, he smiled up at her. "Now, where were we, Aila-chan?"
