There was a girl, a young woman really, who had the audacity to meander into the Dancing Dove without a guard or escort. Her clothes, battered and torn, yet still perfectly usable, were unremarkable whilst her ember hair, even concealed beneath a hood, distinctively marked her as the Rider. Folk almost smiled at her as she walked past, comfortable in the fact htat the Rogue's pet mage was here, but still the regular, distrusting people of the streets. And the dishonest.
This Rider, her name having been a flagrant mockage of the Queen's Riders, also acted under another alias. Kaitlynn sat up at her regular table, cyan eyes teeming with mischief.
"Barlo, if you would be so kind?" She pursed her lips, attention directed at the server. "A glass of the usual, please." He nodded somberly, hurrying to bring her a drink. She leaned back in the chair and waited. Something was going to happen soon. Her Gift sensed it.

Saffron <*>

User Image
In a back room of the Dancing Dove, the merchant and master thief known as Saffron was less than pleased. Her latest job had not gone as planned, a series of unfortunate mishaps resulting in the death of her buyer. Now she was stuck with a small fortune in stolen goods that she had no way to move.
"I can understand your predicament. Really I can. But just as you cannot afford to keep all of these goods, I cannot afford to take them off your hands."
Saffron's potential buyer was a big fish in a small pond and went by the name of Ermine. He spoke with an accent that marked him as a commoner, but his clothes were that of a finer gentleman. His signature bowler hat was cocked to one side, hiding his thinning mousey hair. Ermine gave Saffron an apologetic smile that said he was anything but sorry. Ermine was fond of exercising his influence whenever he could and had been trying to get Saffron to join his merry band of mischief makers for a few years.
"Well then. I suppose there is nothing more for us to discuss." Saffron's face was bland, her chocolate eyes revealing nothing of the turmoil and rage she was feeling inside. "Thank you for your time. I trust that should you come across a buyer, you will be in touch?"
Ermine's grin dimmed slightly as the merchant brought the meeting to an abrupt end. "For my usual finder's fee, I'll be glad to send a buyer your way."
"Very well. Thank you for your time," Saffron said primly, rising from her seat and heading for the door. Her russet colored dress swished as she stepped into the main room of the Dove and up to the bar.

Kaitlynn looked up, hearing the back door slam shut. The cause of this was Saffron, a female thief who looked anything but pleased at the moment. She stopped at the bar, was about to order a hard drink by the looks of it. Feeling fairly amicable at the moment, she rose from her seat and, taking her own beverage from a surprised Barlo, walked up next to her. Everything about her defined mischief. She smiled, but it wasn't friendly. "Here now, Saff dear, lemme take the courtesy..." She then craned her neck, shouting to the bartender, "Hey now, get this lady a little somethin' t' drink!"
She grinned, her sudden white teeth flashing in the dim light. Her hood had fallen in the motion, her hair jumping out unbidden to hang around her shoulders and neck. A single gloved hand brought the mug up to her lips as the Rider repositioned herself.
"So tell me," Kaitlynn began, "what've you been up to? Anything... happen?" Curiosity was strong in the girl, a predominant element of her personality. And right now she was very curious as to what, or most likely, who, had angered the cold thief. The Rider was very good at reading people, and it wasn't just a talent. It was the Gift, simple as that.

Saffron <*>

Saffron gave Kaitlynn a sideways glance, murmuring her thanks to the barkeep as he passed her a small glass filled with a clear, amber liquid. Staring into the small vessel, the merchant thief sat in silence. Sighing, she turned to face the curious mage, Saffron's dark eyes clouded and serious.
"Oh I'm sure you must have heard. I pulled a job that went ... awry and now I'm looking not only for a fence but for a new buyer as well." Saffron's voice was light and lilting, at odds with the worried look in her eyes. At the sound of a door slam, the dark eyes grew cold and hard, surreptitiously watching the cheerful Ermine flit through the Dove, towards the front door. He caught sight of the merchant and the mage at the bar, and, grinning wildly, gave the two ladies a mocking bow. Saffron met his gaze evenly, her face betraying nothing. She kept her gaze on Ermine's retreating form until the front door to the Dove closed behind him. As soon as he was out of sight, Saffron turned her attention back to Kaitlynn and downed her drink in one swallow, setting the small glass down with a thud, grimacing as the amber liquid burned its way down the merchant thief's throat.
"That fop isn't helping things either. Holding out on me in the hopes that I'll join up with his rag-tag band of cutpurses," Saffron muttered in disgust, pushing an auburn curl out of her face, tucking it behind her ear.

Dust caked his throat as Sam walked into the Dancing Dove after his jog up to the palace and a few other places besides. Stumbling up to the bar Sam motioned for the barkeep to give him a drink and then looked around him. Two women sat at the other end of the bar. One of them Sam recognized as Kaitlynn the Rider....the other one was a mystery to Sam. The barkeep gave Sam his drink and took his order for food. Sam paid and then went to sit at the table furthest away from Kaitlynn and her friend. Two women with their heads together usually mean trouble for me. Sam thought to himself as he watched them.

Her head turned to examine the fool who passed by, bowing in jest. Abruptly, her eyes narrowed, colder than her usual manner of a mage who ought not be trusted. They were darker, seeming almost black in her reserved contempt. Kaitlynn hated fools, for it was they who ended up causing the most trouble in their idiocy. But soon her head shifted back to the original postion, just as Saffron replied with an air of disgust at the man. She didn't blame the thief one bit.
"So he's the one responsible for your troubles." The mage gave Saffron a cool smile and gently tapped her dagger lcurrently strapped to her thigh. "It's a good thing you didn't join with th' likes of him. Fools like that... They get what's comin' to 'em." Her head slightly tilted to one side, she took a swig of whatever was in the container directly in front of her, gulping it down without any visible effect. Aftrer that was down and done, the mug was placed back on the table. She didn't quite indicate that she might be the one to deal justice, or whatever violence she might have deemed fair, but it could be assumed. Easily.
Instead, Kaitlynn paused for a moment and closed her eyes, sensing someone's gaze upon her.
"Wait just a minute, I have a feeling there's someone who's too scared to show his face..."Even without the Gift, it was second nature for a one living in the city to recognize a probing glance: and her Gift just made him that quicker to find. Well, well, well. Never would have expected the likes of him to be here. As a very knowing person, of course the Rider knew about the hot-headed boy residing on Stormwing Street... And inside it always made her laugh. To think that such a boy, raised by a priestess, would think he was all that.
She opened her eyes, making eye contact. She was aware that it really wasn't fair to judge him just based off of that, but she just couldn't help herself. If he didn't like that... He'd just have to prove her wrong, right?

The thief shrugged her shoulders in thanks at the implied threat. With a shake of her auburn curls, Saffron turned to look at the individual that had caught Kaitlynn's attention.
"I don't believe I'm familiar with that one there. Have you made his acquaintance yet?" Saffron was always on the lookout for contacts, sources and workers. Though she preferred working alone, there were some jobs that just could not be done by one lone woman. In such cases the thief would hire on freelancers like herself; professionals not aligned with any one small faction like the one run by Ermine.

User ImageSam saw Kaitlynn look into his direction and swallowed dryly. Then he noticed the condescending look in her eyes and he bristled. Who is she to judge me? Sam thought angrily to himself. Then he noticed that he was glaring at her and forced his eyes to look away Better not to offend a mage who's powers I don't know...especially the Rogue's pet mage at that. Sam thought then glanced up again to see Saffron looking at him. Sam sighed to himself. So much for going unnoticed by trouble. Sam thought angrily to himself. Sighing Sam gets up and walks back to the bar and sits down three seats down from Saffron. Let's see what happens. Sam thought to himself out loud he said Hello my name is Sam. What's your name? Why did I ask that? Sam thought to himself.

Saffron gave the newcomer and object of her and Kaitlynn's previous conversation a sideways glance and downed another glass of amber liquid before turning her dark eyes directly upon him.
"I go by Saffron. Just Saffron. Nothing else. Merchant by trade, I travel too much to claim any ties to one place or family. And you Sam, what brings you to the Dove?" she asked, arching one eyebrow. Her face was neutral, but she allowed the briefest hint of curiosity show at the last moment so as not to scare off a potential contact.
You never know who'll be useful, Saffron thought to herself.

User Image Sam raised his eyebrow in return "I'm here to celebrate....I did a good job and was paid well for it....well for a message runner at any rate." Sam said smiling crookedly. "I'm pleased to meet you Saffron. If there is ever a message you need delivered just let me know....I'm not hard to find." Sam said a sad look coming to his eyes...which he pushed away and smiled charmingly at the two women "And what's your name?" Sam asked Kaitlynn knowing full well what her name was but deciding to be polite.
