As the opening riffs of Metallica's Don't Tread On Me begin to play, the lights in the arena switch to an alternating green and brown hue. A billowing American flag appears on the titantron with the words "Major Devastation" appearing in the foreground over the USMC Eagle, Globe and Anchor logo.

He rises slowly from below the stage and lifts a US flag high over his head in his left hand. As the lift stops, Major Devastation salutes the crowd as red, white and blue fountains of sparks spray around him before making his way down the ramp.

As he reaches the side of the ring, he hands Old Glory to the ringside attendant and performs a standing leap onto the ring apron before stepping between the top and middle ropes to enter the ring itself. He climbs the turnbuckles and plays to the crowd while waiting for his opponent to make his entrance.

Major Devastation intently watched his interestingly attired opponent's every movement, studying his actions, wardrobe and grooming. He reminded the challenger of a younger version of Jeff Hardy a bit. The former U.S. Marine stretched a bit during the latter parts of GBL's entrance, as he waited for the bell to ring.

Devastation noticed the hint of weakness in Lightning's knee, and quickly developed a plan. Once the bell rang, he would challenge the reigning champ to a lock-up/test of strength. If Jay accepted, Major D. would attempt to catch an over/under hook on his opponent in order to try for a side belly-to-belly suplex.

After slamming the reigning Intercontinental Champion to the mat, Major quickly got back to his feet and would attempt to deliver a stomp to the knee of GBL that hadn't fully recovered from the Ambulance Match with Brandon Damone at Place Your Bets.

A jolt went up Major's leg as the sole of his boot slammed into the mat instead of GBL's knee. The Marine knew that his best chance of winning the IC title was to keep the high flier grounded, so after taking a few seconds to shake the pins and needles out of his lower leg, he would wait until his opponent stood back up before trying to send his heavy combat boot slamming into the champ's ribs with a whip kick. If it connected, he would look to follow up with a similar kick to the inside of GBL's bum knee.

Major hit the mat with a thud after being taken down by the dragon screw. He rubbed his lower back for a couple of seconds as he brought himself back up to a vertical base. There was a bit of stiffness in his knee, but at the moment it was irrelevant since he had more important things on his mind...like winning the WWF Intercontinental Championship, and would try to walk it off later. At the moment, the challenger would try to keep the pressure on GBL by shooting in, looking to catch a double-leg takedown.

As Jay sprawled out to stop the double leg takedown in its tracks and applied a front headlock, Major started trying to power his way back to a vertical base and would attempt to drive the point of his elbow into the champ's midsection in an effort to escape the hold.
