The library wasn't particularly busy this time of the afternoon on a Thursday, which Dorian was rather thankful for since he had an entire table covered with all his school assignments for the week. This was normally how he had done it at home when he had been home schooled, he had systematically gone through and completed every assignment one right after another. He didn't get why people would put off assignments until the day before; it seemed a bad way to spend his career at school.
Why waste a perfectly good weekend working on assignments when he could get a head start on them now? Plus the library would be completely packed with all the procrastinators on Saturday and Sunday in an attempt to complete their work before Monday. Dorian hated working with too much noise it was way too distracting.
Dorian carefully copied out the last few charms he needed on his parchment and then blew on the ink to help it dry. He waited a few more moments blowing until he was sure it was dry before he rolled up the parchment and wrapped a rubber band around it and labeled what class it was for before he added it to the growing pile of completed assignments. Now..all he had was that dratted history of magic assignment to finish.
Why couldn't they have a better way of teaching the history of magic than a boring teacher droning in a monotone voice about wars and wizards from the past? It was enough to drive Dorian crazy. Why did they need history in the first place? It was done and over. He could see the common sense in knowing it so it wouldn't be repeated but couldn't they teach it in a more engaging manner?
With a loud sigh, Dorian looked around the piled high table for textbook he'd need. He frowned and began to sort through his notes, pitching pieces he no longer needed and putting away the ones he would in his bag. Once that was done he began to systematically sort through the piles of books, putting his text books in one corner and the library books in another spot.
"Where'd that darn book go?" Dorian muttered, his hair falling down into his eyes. He huffed heavily to get the hair out of his face and then looked around the room. He had definitely had the book not that long ago; he could remember getting it off the shelf. Had someone walked on by and grabbed it when he had been busy working on his other assignments?
He was about to go ask the librarian when he looked down at his feet, and saw the book at his feet. He frowned and heaved it up onto the table. "that's right..I had to move it because it was in the way. Man..I need to find a different system for assignments."
He opened the book and blew some dust off of it's pages. "Well..you can tell this book hasn't been used much." He commented and then began to search through the contents for what he needed.

Thalia walked into the library, and gave a quiet sigh of pleasure as she relaxed. The smell of books... Heaven! She quietly paced in towards the shelves, enjoying the feeling of a room that was exactly the sort of place she loved the best. So much knowledge, and so many things to learn... She could never be bored or unhappy for long in here.
Moving amongst the shelves, she began working on memorizing the organization of the place, so that she'd have a clue as to where the things she needed or wanted to read could be better found. She noted the charms section, with a 'damn I'll need it but I want to avoid THAT' look, and moved on. She ran her fingers across a dusty old potions book as she passed, a slow, pleased smile on her young face. She knew she'd be back later to make friends with that volume.
After about five minutes of wandering, she thought she had it down, and tapped her bookbag, thinking to herself about what order to go over things, and what she might be able to borrow from the library to study with tonight. She paused, hearing a voice, and tilts her head. Hearing the words 'book go', she nodded a moment, then headed in the direction of the voice. She was curious as to who was in here, and what book they were hunting for. As she got closer, she heard the next bit and peered around the bookshelf.
Hmmm. A boy. One she didn't know... Well all she could do was go up and talk to him! She calmly walked over to the table, as he said that last sentence, and lifted her brows. Hadn't used it much?! What a waste of a good book! Nonetheless, she didn't say that, she just said "Hello... What are you working on?" She glanced over his table, and the way he'd 'organized, and then back at him, her head tilted. Currently, her hair was a bright green with blue tips, and a lock fell across her face.

Dorian was rather startled by the sound of a voice near him and jumped in surprise, causing his open bottle of ink to fall over and spill on top of the last bit of parchment he had with him. With a french curse exploding forth, Dorian quickly mopped up the ink with his ruined parchment and moved the giant book out of the way of the mess.
"Well I was trying to find some information on one of the wizard's that created the self stirring pot, I was pretty sure I'd find it in that book. And then you startled me. Next time don't sneak up on a person. I could have ruined the book. And then I'd have to buy the school a new copy. I wonder how much it would cost, and how much I'd have to work to pay it off." Dorian wondered aloud.
Then he finally cast a glance up at the girl and was surprised to see she had bright vibrant green hair with blue tips. He could have sworn he had sen her around the day before with an entirely different color, could she be one of those people who could change their hair? Dorian reached over and pushed the lock of hair out of her face out of reflex. He was constantly doing it for his older sister when she was around.
"Uh..sorry." He said blushing slightly realizing this wasn't his sister. "Care to help a fellow out with some research?" He asked trying to attempt to win her over. "I could make it worth your while." He added with a grin.

Thalia had to fight the urge to jump, herself, when he did. When the ink spilled, she gasped a bit and covered her mouth. Oh no, the book! She sighed at his words, and looked utterly apologetic. "I'm so sorry! I wouldn't ever have done anything to startle you on purpose. I didn't realize I was so quiet that I couldn't be heard." She flushed, embarrassed at having nearly helped ruin a book. "I'd have helped replace it since it would have been my fault too..."
When his hand touched her hair, she froze, surprised. No one ever did that, who wasn't family! What on earth was he doing? The apology made her relax, and she tilted her head at the blush.
"Forgiven but... I mean why would you do that to a stranger? It seems a little outside of standard treatment for some one you just met." Unintentionally, she started speaking, as she often did, in a way that really was rather strange for a girl her age. "And sure! I love research. Books are great." She moved to take a seat. "And learning, or helping others learn, is a pursuit worthy of it's own end. I don't need compensation! So, is this for an assignment? Why do you need the inventor of the Self Stirring pot?"

Dorian softened slightly when he heard her apology, at least she was sorry. He was surprised she was so open and ready to accept part of the blame had anything happened to the book. And she wasn't even in his house! Though to be fair he supposed more kids in his house would have just shrugged and left him to deal with the mess.
"That's quite all right, nothing's damaged so it's okay." He replied, "That's refreshing to know. Most others would just blame it on me being clumsy." Dorian told her.
Dorian blushed again at her question and wondered why she sounded so much older and so like his sister. Perhaps that was just how she was raised. "Well, you kind of remind me of my older sister. She tends to wear her hair down and let it get in her face, even as a young kid I was always pulling her hair out of her face. It's become a reflex I guess." He could imagine his cheeks were bright red by now, and wondered what possessed him to share so much with a perfect stranger.
"Well let me change that, I'm Dorian Devereux. There now we're not strangers." He told her with a smile. He was relieved when the offered to help him and then took a seat next to him. Perhaps with the added help he'd be able to get the assignment done in less time than he had figured.
"Well that's very generous of you, but I insist on at least helping you with something in the future. One good deed deserves another as my grand-mere always says." Dorian quipped and then frowned over the ruined parchment that was now sopping with black ink.
"Uh..yes. It's an assignment from my History of Magic class; I need a foot and a half report on the guy. Let me go throw this away, wash my hands and see if I can get a new piece, I think I'm all out." Dorian finished, pushing his chair back and holding his robe under the inky mass to keep it from dripping on the floor. He dumped it into the trashcan and then went to find a place to wash his hands.

Seeing him soften, Thalia relaxes, visibily, and smiles at him. She was glad he'd not gotten annoyed. She didn't know for sure, but she'd heard those in Slytherin tended to be touchy and easy to offend. She had personal experience of only one Slytherin, really, and her mother barely counted, after all. So she wasn't sure how a Slytherin might jump and did not want to make a new enemy so suddenly.
"Oh good... and of course I wouldn't leave you to take the blame, I caused you to jump. It would be unforgivably rude and unfair of me not to admit to my fair share of the guilt if anything HAD happened."
She watched him blush, and noticed how red he got. Boys blush? She thought they were totally unembarressable, with the things they got up to! What an interesting discovery. She found a part of her mind filing this away as 'Very Interesting' and that led to her wondering how often they did it, what caused it, and the very interesting idea of finding out for herself. Could she make more boys blush? It sounded almost like a game she could... But she was getting distracted, and she reprimanded herself. "Ahhhhhh an older sister then?" She smiled a bit, a little enviously. "Lucky. I have no siblings. I always wanted one though..."
"Dorian Devereux, it is a pleasure to meet you. I am Thalia Gordon-Lennox. It is good to find myself with an aquaintance, and not a stranger. Well she was trying to make a joke, but she suspected it fell flat. "And I don't suppose you'd be so kind as to indulge a new aquaintance... Where are you from?" His accent, the unexpected French she'd heard when she startled him, his name, and his very manners made her afire with curiousity. She had to know, if he'd just tell her!
"That is good to know. I will be certain to keep you in mind if I find myself in need of assistance, especially in" she made a slight face here "Charms or something, where I'm most likely to need help." Noticing his ruined parchment, she winced, then put her rainbow bookbag on the table, and pulled out some rolls. "Here, take one of these, since I caused you to ruin that one."
"Ooooooooooo! A history assignment! Excellent." She beamed at him. "Tell me more about the assignment? Just details, or what do you need to write for the Professor?" When he got up to wash his hands, she eagerly snagged the book he was referencing and began to review it. At least she could, before he got back, determine if it was a useful book for this and figure out where the most useful information was.

Dorian was rather annoyed that he had touched the girl's hair. It was really a too familiar act for a him to have done. To say he was embarrassed would be putting it mildly, he was pretty much mortified. He glanced around to make sure that no one was watching and sighed in relief. It appeared that everyone was too busy to have noticed it. He breathed a little easier when he realized this.
"Yeah, she's my half sister really but my father doesn't like me calling her that. I was kind of an only child for awhile, until she showed up. She's so much older that it's kind of like having a live in baby sitter, of sorts." Dorian finished weakly, wondering why he was blabbering on about this. What was it about this beaming girl that made him want to talk so much?
"It's a pleasure to meet you Thalia, lovely name by the way. An acquaintance?" He asked the joke going way over his head. "Oh sure, we can be friends if you'd like. Well I was born in New Orleans, that's in Louisiana, and then my family moved to France a couple of years ago. Why did you want to know?" He asked tilting his head to the side to look at her.
"I'm pretty decent in Charms class, I could lend a hand if you'd like." He replied. "Oh that's very generous of you, merci!"
He had already turned to take the sopping paper to the trash when Thalia had started talking to him about the assignment. Despite his concentration on the trash he had heard everything she had asked and thought it over as he went to wash his hands in the wash room a few doors down from the library. When he returned he was glad to see she had started in on searching through the text book.
"Sorry for going off like that, I had to clean up the mess before it dripped on the floor. I have the assignment written down here somewhere, let me see if I can locate it." Dorian told her as he began to search through his pile of papers that he had stuffed into his book bag earlier. He was rather glad he had moved them before the ink incident as that would have been rather horrible to have to start all his work over without his notes. "Here it is!" Dorian exclaimed in triumph after a few moments of searching, "Write a report on the inventor of the Self stirring Pot, write it in a narrative that tells of his life before and after the invention; how it changed his life and how his invention changed the wizarding world. The report must be a foot and a half long, written with the quill on parchment, it is due on Monday morning. How utterly boring." Dorian added blowing his hair out of his face. "So I may need to find a few more books, as that one only mentions the part of his life about the self stirring pot and how he got the idea."

Thalia tilted her head, listening to his short explanation about his sister. "Hmmm I see. Still, at least she is a sister. It would be nice to have some one around who is not close to my dad's age when I am home. My aunts are lovely, and my grandparents are wonderful, but some one closer in age to me would be great." She sighed a little, not even aware she'd let a telling omission like not mentioning her mother slip. "And think, you have some one who can tell you how girls think!" She added, in a gently teasing way.
"Why thank you. I'm quite fond of it myself!" She made another attempt at a joke, trying not to be disappointed at the failure of her previous one. "And as for why... Well you have an interesting accent that I couldn't place... Part French and part something I didn't know. Also, you've a French last name, and use French phrases at somewhat random. It seemed to me you were not, shall we say, local and I was... Well I was curious." She nodded. "I've heard of New Orleans. I hear the food is wonderful, is that so?"
"OH wonderful. Charms is... it seems so..." She paused, and got stuck trying to describe why she had trouble with it. She finally settled on "I have trouble with it. I can't define why..."
She set the book down when he returned, and nodded at his words. "All right. Yes, it definitely just has that. Give me a moment, I'm going to see what I can find during his lifetime." She bounced to her feet, gave him a bright smile, then trotted over to the shelves with the books of history. After several moments of reading book spines, she seemed to stop in a section, and read over some titles. She pulled out a few here or there, checking the back of them, then put a few back, then took what she still held to their table. "Give me another moment, I'm going to check one other section." She ran over to another section and after careful perusal, she went "Aha!" and grabbed a book, trotting back with it. "Life and Times of Significant Cauldron Creators!" She stated and displayed the book. "All right, I think these should help, don't you?

Dorian laughed and shook his head. "Yes she does sometimes. She's not home too often, as my grandparents can't really stand her all that much. She's usually with her mother most of the time. I get to visit them sometimes, but not that often. My grand-mere is kind of overprotective of me." He replied shaking his head. "I can imagine it's got to be a bit lonely at times, especially during the holidays." he added. Dorian was glad he was able to stop himself from blushing at her teasing.
This time Dorian got the joke and laughed. "Ha ha ha, that's a good one. Do you know what it means? Just wondering. Oh why thank you, I normally only slip into that when I'm frustrated or angry. I'm Greek on my mother's side, I'm impressed you could hear it. Most people don't even notice it. My greek gets a bit more pronounced after I've been visiting my mother's family. Oh the food is pretty good, but very spicy. Spicy enough to tarnish metal or so my father always says." Dorian finished with a laugh.
Dorian was a bit glad to hear that she might need his help with Charms, as he wanted to repay her for her help. Dorian liked when there were fair trades and hated owing favors to people. It wasn't something accepted in the Devereux family to owe things to other people and to always find a way to repay favors right away.
"Well when you're ready to get some help, perhaps after we finish this I can help you figure out what the problem is. Most times it's just in the enunciation of the charm." Dorian replied, "though it could be something other than that." He added quickly not wanting to offend her.
"Uh thanks," Dorian called after her as she bounced away smiling brightly. He pulled the book over to him and started taking notes on some loose leaf paper so he could plot out the paper properly. "She's an interesting girl." he murmured to himself looking up at her as she browsed the library shelves. "I think I just found the perfect study partner." he said to himself with a satisfied grin. "Oh, thanks I appreciate it." Dorian told her as she sped off once more.
He couldn't help but grin as he jotted down notes from the text. She certainly was a bright bubbly thing. He wasn't sure if it was a good thing that he noticed or not. Now was not the time to get distracted by a girl, even if she intrigued him.
"Perfect, thank you very much for your help Thalia," Dorian told her peering up at her for a moment. "you are the best."

"Oh that's a pity! Why don't they like her?" She looked confused over that. "She'd family, isn't she? Shouldn't she be treated well... like one treats family?" She sighed a little. "I only get to go out to the country on visits to Grandma and Grandpa Lennox's estate." She brushed her bangs back a little with a sigh. She nodded at the comment about the holidays. "They're fun, but when the adults start... adulting, I guess, or however you want to call it, with each other, yeah... lonely and boring."
His reaction to her joke made her shake off the blah thoughts, and she beamed at him. "It's Greek. Surprised you don't know, given what you're saying about your mother's family!" She teased him some. "It means To Blossom, and it's one of the Muses. She's the muse of Comedy and Pastoral Poetry. And don't ask me why those are paired together, I don't get it either." She, again, made the assumption he'd know what she meant with her advanced vocabulary. After all, she'd known for 3 years, what Pastoral Poetry meant when she looked it up to find out more about her name. She really needed a way to remember that she spoke 'big'.
"You know, I may need to pick your brains, in a friendly way, at some point. You seem so well traveled! I've barely been off the island of Britain. I've been to Paris twice, but mostly I'm here in England." She sighed a little. "I do want to travel..." She paused, and then made a slight face, as if reminded of something unpleasant.
"OH I definitely will. I don't think it's enunciation... I think I just have some sort of mental block with Charms, so that I have trouble with it." She sounded slightly miserable. "I don't begin to know why I would... My father INSISTS they're easy!"
She smiled as she settled back into the chair with the book, unaware of what he was thinking or had been talking to himself about. All she knew, and was happy over, was she'd found a new friend, and he was interesting. "Of course, glad I can help. And awww I'm just helping my new friend, right?" She smiled at him.
She then glanced back down at the book and began to look through it, hunting for the section on the necessary inventor. "Lessee... Pages 71-95.5... All right, so it looks like he had a pretty boring life, anyways, beyond that... Was born, grew up, learned magic, decided he hated having to sit there stirring the cauldron for five majillion hours at a time, and found a way to avoid that. Hmmm, after, he lived a dull life still, but this time a dull life involving money." She mumbled for a moment, then went "Oooo wait, let's see... He became a gambling addict, and left his wife and kid with a patent but no money when he died! Heh sounds like a right idiot. Had one moment of genius and blew it."

"It's a bit complicated," Dorian said, not sure if he should go on about his sister or not. "We have the same father but different mothers. I think my grand-mere is just concerned that her mother might try something to get my dad back and she takes it out on Kori. I don't really like it but there's not much I can do about it. Old people sometimes have a hard time forgiving and forgetting old slights. It's like they're always living in the past."
He did rather wish that he could spend more time with his sister without his grand-mere getting so upset about it. It was rather puzzling to him why she took so much of her anger out on Kori when she wasn't the one to blame. Of course it could be because, as his father pointed out; Korina looked nearly identical to how his mother had looked as a young girl. So perhaps it was more jealousy on his Grand-mere's part than anything.
"Sometimes I wish my grandmere and pepe lived in the country and had less friends then perhaps I'd get more time alone with them. They're always throwing these big parties for all their old friends and then I'm completely left alone or told to entertain some of their friends' spoiled grandkids. That's the worst." Dorian told her. "Imagine having to show three kids all at least two to three years younger than you your room, and having to let them completely destroy it and all your toys. I learned the repair charm the fastest with having so much practice with them around. I imagine they'll be there again this year." Dorian finished with a sigh. "maybe I should just find someone to invite home so we could terrorize the little pests together or something." He schemed aloud.
"Oh, it is? Fancy that. I don't know every single greek name though I do know a lot." He said with a laugh. "That's pretty neat. I've heard of the Muses but hadn't really remembered them all. " He admitted.
He was now totally enthralled with by the conversation with Thalia and had dropped his pen and was avidly watching her as she spoke. She was quite animated when talking and so passionate that Dorian couldn't help but feel completely and utterly fascinated with her. "Pick my brain eh? I have only been to a few places really, we were pretty rooted in New Orleans and didn't really go much of anywhere save for the major holidays. Though Halloween in New Orleans is something pretty spectacular. Is halloween celebrated here in England?" he asked almost in alarm at the thought that it might not be.
He paused and listened to her misery at not being able to pick up Charms, it seemed like it bugged her a lot. Was she used to things coming easily to her? Dorian couldn't help but wonder if she was just making a big deal out of it and that was what was blocking her. "Don't be too concerned, it's still early yet. I bet with a bit of practice and some of my help you'll get it soon enough." Dorian assured her reaching over to pat her hand kindly.
"Now then, I should get back to this paper." He said sitting up a bit straighter and found the spot where he had left off in the book and began to jot down his notes once more. He was soon done with his bit, and then started jotting down what she had read aloud, soon enough he had caught up and had it all down in chronological order.
"It all sounds like dullsville to me." Dorian muttered, pushing his hair out of his face again. "Now I just have to compose this narrative essay, with my notes it shouldn't take too long. Do you want to take a break with me before I tackle it?" he asked looking up at the clock in the library and realized he had been at his schoolwork for more than three hours now. His father had always told him to take a break every couple of hours so that the information wouldn't dull his brain or become too mundane and he'd be able to remember more.
"I need a fresh mind before I start composing it. Want to go for a short walk or something? I may need a hand carrying these all back to my room." He added glancing at the piles of books and papers.

"Ohhhhhhhh awkward family stuff... Yeah. I know how that can be." She sighed a little and glanced out the window, looking uncomfortable for a long moment, then shook her head and looked back. "Silly of her, though. It's not like her mother or she actually slighted your family, that I can see. If her mother was going to, wouldn't she have made the attempt when she brought Kori?" She looked puzzled, for a moment, at the last bit. "Ah well, people make no sense some days." Or every day really, but she wasn't about to go there.
She tilted her head and laughed. "Oh man, I'm not the only one, at least. And I'll give Grandmother Lennox this, she tends only to invite people over, if I'm there, when they're visiting to make purchases. Grandma and Grandpa Gordon live with us, so..." She made a bit of a face. "Luckily, they don't do that to me. I tend to hide in the library if the guests bring little monsters, and they send them to the nursery. Since I've LONG outgrown that, I'm safe." She pondered. "Yes, you should try inviting a friend, that might work!"
She nodded, and laughed. "I was only teasing, Dorian. I mean, it'd be like expecting me to know all the old Celtic myths or something. I love reading about them, but yeah I'm by no means an expert." She listened to him calmly. "Yes, but I've never been to New Orleans, so it'd be interesting to hear about. And the parts of France you've been to. And Greece." She blinked at the near alarmed tone, and tried not to giggle. Oh goodness, panicked over Halloween! Well, she could at least reassure him on that score! "Of course we do, silly! And I've HEARD, though I don't know myself, that Hogwarts is really fun at Halloween!"
She sighed again over Charms. "Oh I hope you can. I just... don't know. I hate being stuck in a class, usually I don't have this much trouble..." She sounded almost mournful, and it was almost pitiful to think she'd mourn over being not good at one class, or two.
"Riiight. The paper. Ok." She waited while he worked through his notes, jotting a few herself in case the Professor of History decided her class needed it too, then set it down. She looked out the window, thinking a little about what all they'd discussed, not focusing on much else while he wrote.
She blinks, startled some when he spoke up again, having gone into reverie-land. "Mmm? Oh yeah, it's pretty dull, I guess. And sure! A walk to refresh the mind is a great idea. Keeps you fresh, keeps up the energy." She stood up. That last part sounded almost parroted, like she was quoting something some one told her... a lot.

"Ah," Dorian replied, not sure if he should ask for her to elaborate or not. She seemed a bit uncomfortable talking about it. "Yeah it is silly of her. Of course if she knew the truth about Harrietta my grand-mere wouldn't be so against her. And then perhaps she'd let Kori and her visit for the holidays more often. I normally only get to see her on Christmas and that's it. It'd be nice to have a normal family get together, but how do you define normal among magical families?" He asked with a slight laugh. "Magic could never be determined normal in any setting." he added.
Dorian decided he liked the sound of her laughter, it wasn't outright bubbly or faked like he'd been hearing around the Halls but genuine and beautiful.
"Sounds kind of boring having to hide in the library all the time. At least you don't get forced into entertaining them." He told her slightly enviously. "Sometimes I wish I didn't have to live with my grandparents; and I could stay with my dad. I rather miss him, I haven't really seen him for the past six months now. I hope my mother is doing all right." he murmured, a worried look going across his face.
Dorian grinned back at her, leaning slightly closer to her to listen as she spoke. She was fascinating. She knew so much and spoke like an older person but she was still a kid. She was obviously very smart and knew a lot. She'd definitely be a fun person to study with and hang out with.
"Well that's good," He said with relief. "Halloween is pretty much my number one favorite Holiday. I can't wait to see what they do for it. I imagine it would be fantastic! Though I bet no one dresses up as witches or wizards." he added with a laugh.
Dorian didn't like to hear her sound so sad about not being able to pick up Charms that well. He leaned over and awkwardly patted her on the shoulder. "Well I'll do my best. You have to keep in mind, most classes don't come easy to people. You have to work at them and try. If you don't you won't get any better."
Dorian found himself glad when Thalia agreed to go on a walk with him. He eagerly stood up and began packing away his scrolls in his bag. Dorian eyed his textbooks, wishing he had mastered the shrink charm so he could shrink them down to where he could carry them all. He was still working on that charm though. He moved the books into two piles, a slightly lighter one for Thalia and a heavier one for himself.
"I agree, my father told me that a walk usually helped him when he was overwhelmed with his workload in Hogwarts. Sounds like it's been drilled into you by someone." Dorian said eying Thalia.
Then he gathered up the library books and carried them back over to the librarian's desk. "Thank you for your help earlier, I'm done with these." Dorian told the lady with a grateful smile. "Are these ones available to be checked out?" he asked showing her the two he'd need for his report.
"You can take them for the night, but they'll need to be returned in the morning." The librarian told him as she checked the books out to him and handed them back. "It's nice seeing a kid on top of his work so early. Keep it up and you'll do well here." She added with a smile.
"I will probably have them back before tomorrow; I'm just going to take a short break." he told her with a smile. "thanks, I like to get stuff done early on. Seems like the best way to do it."
Dorian came back with the two books and then eyed the rest for a moment. Even with Thalia's help he'd need to make two trips. The history books were pretty heavy. With a sigh, Dorian pulled his wand out and attempted the shrinking spell. Much to his surprise all the books on the table shrank down to a tenth of their original size.
"It finally worked!" He exclaimed joyously. "I guess I don't need you to help me carry them after all; now lets go take that walk." Dorian said piling the smaller books into his book bag and headed for the door. "After you." he said pulling the door open for her.

"The truth about Harrietta?" She turned her head to look curiously at Dorian. "What truth is that?" She was now curious as to what it might be, and glad to skip any chance of him asking about why she was uncomfortable with awkward family stuff. She hoped, anyways. "Perhaps you should tell her this truth, see if she'll listen and maybe that would help the issue?" She tilts her head to the left.
"I... enjoy the library. I like reading, and learning, and my grandparents and father have collected LOTS of books from all over. Lots of interesting knowledge. I don't find it boring at all. And far more interesting then little brats who would have more hair then wits if they were completely bald." She blinked, reviewed what she said, and blushed some. "Ermmm if you met my family at any point for some reason... Please, don't mention I said that. My father will give me SUCH a lecture for being rude."
She looked at him, curiously. "Why do you live with just your grandparents? I mean, we live with mine, but that's the Gordon estate, it's to be expected..." She paused, then added "Unless you don't want to tell me!" She realized she might be prying here.
She admitted to herself, though, Dorian seemed really nice. She was definitely glad she'd met him, and in an obscure way, glad she startled him. She had a reason to get to know him, after all!
"I like Halloween, it IS fun. But I like Christmas better, and not for the presents, either! I like the feeling of togetherness with family, and everyone's home, even mum... And when friends come over, it's ALWAYS the ones who are closest, so it's not like an intrusion. And there's just so much happiness, usually. And all the food, too!"
She bit her lip, and sighs as he patted her shoulder. "I'm just... this is the first class I've EVER had this much of a difficulty with. It's... crazy annoying, you know?"
She stood when he did and was ready to carry whatever was needed. "Mmmm Oh yes. My father wanted to be sure I got out of the library more. He insisted I hid there too much." She flushed some and looked away.
Walking with him to the librarian, she tilted her head, listening to the rules regarding the checking out of books, and nodded to herself. She could manage with that rule, she thought. "Keeping up with the homework is good. And sooner the better. More relaxing in one's free time if it's not looming."
She watched him as he did the spell, and applauded him. "Charms, of course, so it just... I can't do it myself. But good for you! You really are quite good at them!" She beamed at him, and suppressed the urge to feel jealous.

Dorian was definitely a bit uncomfortable now. Kori had sworn him to secrecy about it and he'd already gone and spoke about it to a perfect stranger! If she knew how open mouthed he was, Kori would definitely be on his case during the winter break.
"Well, I kind of promised my sister to not say. I'd be in deep trouble if she found out I even hinted at it to you. I really don't want to get on her bad side. If my grand-mere knew she'd just use it as fuel for making things worse." Dorian told her. "I don't know why she enjoys making people's lives miserable but she does."
Dorian laughed at Thalia's comparison of her family to books. He'd come to the same conclusion before as well. "No worries, I'll make sure to keep that to myself."
He was a bit taken aback by her abrupt question of and paused to look at her for a moment. He could see she was merely curious and not really into using any information for maligning him or his family. "Well, what I've been told is that my mother had a breakdown and has been in an institution to get help. My dad's needs to be involved in her recovery so I've been living with my grandparents for several years. I get to visit my other grandparents and aunts and uncles all the time though. And I get to see my sister every now and then."
Dorian was definitely glad that Halloween was celebrated in Hogwarts. It was a huge relief to him. Halloween and Mardi Gras were his two favorite holidays of all time.
"Ah, sounds like you have a good Christmas with your family. Mine's usually just me and my grandparents. I find New Year's is better, since I get to spend most of that week with Kori and her mom and all their friends. They throw one of the best parties I've ever seen."
While Dorian had never had just one class that annoyed him, he did have an idea how frustrating it could be. It was kind of like having something just out of reach that you could never quite grab a hold of no matter what you did or how you did it. "I bet it has to be." He said sympathetically. "I have plenty of classes that are hard for me though, so I do know how frustrating it can get."
"That's kind of a mean thing to do. I figure if it's something you enjoy and like to do then you should be allowed." Dorian told her.
Dorian grinned at Thalia and nodded in agreement. "That's so true. I look forward to finishing this last assignment and getting to relax for the weekend. I think it will be grand fun watching everyone scurry around on Sunday in an attempt to finish all their work." He said with a snicker.
Dorian grinned happily at Thalia and her praise. He felt like he had accomplished something more than just a simple spell. "Thank you." He said simply. "Don't worry about that, I'll do what I can to help you get better at them." He promised as they made their way out of the library and down the hall.
