Dorian had been running behind all day long and by the time classes were out he was practically bursting from holding it in all day long. He hurried down the halls as fast as he could go; his robes swishing back and forth around his legs. Some days he really hated having to wear robes, they got in the way way too much! He'd already tripped on them twice already today. Why had his father gotten robes that were so big in the first place?

He rushed down the stone steps into the cellar where the Slytherin House entrance was located and quickly whispered the password so no one could hear and then slipped inside. He ignored the annoyed looks from the other Slytherins as he ran past them and straight to where his bunk was. He dumped his pile of books on the edge of his bed and peeled off towards the bathroom.

He opened the heavy door and felt something small and sleek brush past his legs. He paused and looked down to see the tell tale bluish black fur of his cat Remy as he ran past. "Oh bugger!" Dorian cursed, remembering he had left the door to the sleeping quarters open. There wasn't anything he could do now, he was at the point of really needing to go. He'd just have to go off in search of Remy after having finished. With a black scowl and a few french curses under his breath, Dorian stomped over to the toilet.

Elliot's final class had let out about an hour earlier. During class that day, he'd come up with the brilliant idea to write a letter to his mother! After all, she had told him, before letting him aboard the Hogwarts Express, that she expected to hear from him, to see that he wasn't in any danger. He had sent her one letter before; however, as they had no owl of their own, he had to use one which was shared by the school. He felt bad about making the poor birds fly, though it was their job, so he had hesitated to send another.

Still, it had been too long. So, during class, the Ravenclaw wrote a little update. Afterward, he took the letter to the owlry. He left the letter in the care of a pretty little tawny female, who promptly departed with his message in tow.

His error occurred when he thought that it would be a smart idea to bring Red along with him. Now, this wasn't anything unusual on its own, as the creature was accustomed to being carried around in one of Elliot's out-sized pockets or sleeves. However, bringing a rat to an owlry was probably not the most intelligent of plans...

Though Red would have none of that. The two reached a nonverbal agreement that Red would wait just outside the door. He would sit his furry rear in one of the chairs and simply wait peacefully as Elliot conducted his business...

"Red..?" Elliot asked, glancing around quizzically as he exited the owlry. "My Red, where are you..?"

It seemed that the funny thing had gone off! That certainly wasn't good... But Hogwarts was so very large! Where would a rat have gone to?

"Um... Trackus rattus..!" Elliot squeaked quietly, swishing his wand about helplessly. It seemed that his brand new rat-tracking spell needed improving...

Embarrassed, and unsure what to do next, Elliot simply put his wand away and began searching, calling as he went along...

"Red..? Red..?"

Remy had been caterwauling for hours before the door had finally opened and released him from his horrid prison. He didn't even pause to see who his savior had been and ran out shaking with delight at his new freedom. He paused at the threshold of the room where he had been cooped up for ages to lick his feet clean then he very daintily made his way out among the chattering humans.

His ears flattened back at the smells that hit his poor sensitive nose and hissed at a weird looking creature that wandered too close. The long sinewy creature hissed back and made a swipe at him with some very sharp claws. Remy bristled making his back hair shoot out a good five inches and arched his back hissing even louder at the weird creature that smelled like it had been rolling in pee.

Remy was rather shocked when a wallop to his side caused him to fly up across the room and hit the wall with a loud thud. He laid there stunned as the laughter from the two footed creatures jeered down at him. When the wall suddenly opened behind him he launched himself through and made a run for it.

Finally after running and dodging through lots of legs, Remy settled down in a dark hallway to catch his breath. It was then when he caught the unmistakable smell of rat. Remy arched his neck, his nose straight in the air sniffing and trying to catch the scent of where the critter had gone.
Must find Vermin, must catch, must destroy, flittered through Remy's head as he scurried with a new purpose down the hallway completely intent on finding the rat.

The scent grew stronger and stronger, until finally he spotted it inching out of a two foot's robe pocket peering about. Remy's eyes instantly latched on to his target as he resumed his stocking, keeping three to four feet behind so the vermin wouldn't catch his scent. The cat stopped a few feet away from the rookery his tail waving back and forth impatiently wanting to get his paws on the creature. His eyes grew narrow when the rat was left on a chair and the human went inside the stink infested rookery.

Hello little vermin, are you prepared to meet my stomach? Remy thought licking his lips and inched closer; his back muscles coiling up in preparation for his up coming pounce.

Though Elliot may not have been the most observant human in the world, rats were considerably more aware of their surroundings. Red, in particular, made sure to keep an eye out for danger- for both himself and Elliot. He knew that he was being stalked; he couldn't see the feline, but its scent filled his nostrils, and it was all he could do to keep from panicking while inside Elliot's pocket.

Nevertheless, as soon as he was put down (and Elliot was out of sight), Red knew that he should be on the move. He could see the beast now, hungry, flashing eyes keenly set on his unfortunate flesh.

Never one to waste time dilly-dallying, Red scurried up the chair and onto the small table which sat next to it. He accidentally knocked over the ink-well that was sitting upon the table (for students to use in writing their letters) and felt it seep into his toes. He didn't stop, though; a cat could pounce and easily make its way onto his surface. Bracing himself, Red leaped from the desk and onto the floor.

From there, it was a mad dash to safety. The legs of the decor in the room lifted the base too high off the floor to provide an adequate hiding spot, so he was forced to flee the small room adjoining the owlery. From there, he weaved and bobbed through the legs of traveling students, almost certainly startling them in the process.

Sometimes, he wondered if Elliot really was trying to kill him!

...Of course, that was not really the case. Elliot was just an unwitting kid- smart in some ways, forgetful and naïve in others. He cared deeply about his precious pet, but he didn't always think things through. Still, now that he had found himself in this predicament, he busied himself. He searched everywhere, calling for his familiar among other students, barreling through some small crowds if necessary to investigate what he thought might be Red moving in the distance...

Unaware that the poor rat was in danger.

Dorian emerged from his room with a concerned look on his face, he hadn't thought that Remy would leave the room and had been beating himself up for having left the door open. He peered around the common room and called softly, "Remy, where are you boy? Remy, here cat!"

"Is your cat blackish blue?" came a soft girlish voice from behind him. Dorian turned to see a dark haired girl staring at him biting her bottom lip. "Yes, have you seen him?" Dorian inquired, getting a bit worried that Remy still hadn't shown up. Normally Remy would come whenever he called him.

The girl told him what had happened and watched him closely. Dorian burned with rage at whoever had licked his cat. "Promise you'll point him out to me later," Dorian told her and then ran once more across the common room floor and disappeared out the door.

Dorian's chest was burning with rage, and his temper was starting to get away from him as he rand down the hallway calling for Remy every few seconds. Why the hell had that kid kicked his cat? He could have just moved his sacré ferret in the first place? He was going to have to lui botter le cul désolé when he got the chance!

Now where had Remy gone off to? He had meant to take him out of the room but had been so swamped with his studies he hadn't really had the chance. He wondered how Remy had gotten locked in the bathroom as he was normally kept in his cage or the room while he was out. He supposed Remy had been curious and had gone to investigate something and then one of his roommates had closed the door not noticing the cat.

"Remy, Remy, where are you cat?" Dorian called out, starting to get worried that the cat would get lost or fall prey to another mean student or one of the hawks that flew over the school. merde! What if Remy had managed to get outside of the school? Dorian began to walk faster and call for Remy even more fervently, his fear for his pet clouding his anger from before. "REMY! WHERE ARE YOU!" He practically bellowed, causing a few people to turn and stare at him. "I'm looking for my cat, he got loose have you seen him?" Dorian asked looking around nearly frantic now.

Little did Dorian know that his missing cat was plaguing the life of poor Red!

Scurrying about the campus had not been on the rat's "to-do" list, which was actually comprised of much simpler things: eat, sleep, clean self, potty breaks... Red wondered briefly, as he sought temporary refuge in the nook behind one of Hogwarts' many statues, just who had let their cat roam free. His mind did not have a human comprehension of things, but he had recognized early on that most other students kept their companions from harming other folks' companions. It was simply impolite to let them roam the halls unattended!

Then again, Elliot had done the very same, hadn't he? Red breathed heavily, trying to regain some of his energy before the monster found him again. It wasn't the most comfortable of locations; the Hogwarts castle itself was drafty, and he was standing in what had to be one of the thickest layers of dust in the place. Not to mention his space was very limited, jammed between-

Sneef!

Red was sure that little sneeze would be enough to give away his position, assuming he hadn't already. He braced himself for a paw to emerge, but he couldn't be sure what direction...

...

"Pardon, but have you seen a rat?" Elliot asked an innocent passerby, grasping her by the shoulders- uncomfortably close.

"Uh- um... I- I think..."

The girl pointed in some arbitrary direction. It meant little to Elliot, except that he might have had some sort of lead! He darted off without a word, leaving the poor student feeling thoroughly awkward.

Remy pounced and was annoyed when the rat eluded him. He hissed in annoyance, his tail flickering angrily. He was going to get that little bugger if he had to run all night and all day! He followed the rat from the chair to the small table, easily avoiding the ink that the vermin had spilled and leaped down after the rat.

It was a rather fast one, and smart too. Which made the chase that much more thrilling for Remy. It had been ages since he had been let out and allowed to chase pests around. It would be glorious when he caught the vermin, his two foot would pet him, praise him and then feed him the best cream! Just the thought of it made his insides moan at the anticipation of such a treat.

Remy knew better than to try and follow he rat through the two footed creatures' legs and instead followed at a semi leisurely trot keeping his eyes on the crowd around him. He had already been stepped on once and kicked and he wasn't about to let that happen again.

His sharp eyes caught sight of the rat suddenly dart out of the crowded hallway and into an alcove and behind a statue. With a smug look on his lips, Remy trotted over and cocked his head to the side thinking about what to do. If he were to jab a paw in there the vermin would more than likely bite it, he figured he might just wait it out at a slight distance until the rat emerged sure of it's safety.

Dorian stumbled down another hallway, his eyes on the look out for the sleek blue black fur of his cat as he walked. He was still alarmed that something bad might happened to his cat. He was about to give up and go and ask a teacher to help him find Remy when he overheard a kid ask someone about seeing his rat.

Oh gods, Dorian thought. Remy must have caught scent of the rat and gone after it! Merde! If he didn't find his cat soon, he'd have to explain to the poor kid that it was more than likely that his familiar had eaten it. He really didn't need that to happen.

Dorian thought about telling the kid what he suspected but knew that might just upset the kid and he wouldn't be able to keep searching. He thought that if there were two of them looking it was more than likely that one of them would find the two pets. Dorian doubled his pace, checking every open door and hallway he went past. Where was that darn cat!
