Dorian was in a rather black mood. After classes had gotten out he had been planning on going out to watch the quidditch practice but it had started raining down so hard that the practice had been canceled stranding him inside the Hogwart's castle. With an annoyed and frustrated sigh, Dorian had gone down to the Slytherin common room to stash his books into his trunk and grab his bag of marbles in hopes of finding someone to play with.

Then he had proceeded to ask everyone he could think of in the Slytherin Common room if they wanted to play. It seemed as though every single one of them wanted nothing to do with him. Damn stuck up pricks; he was the same age they were and with the wizard charmed marbles he had picked up it would have made the game even more fun than the normal game.

The red ones would spark and catch fire, the blue ones would squirt water in your eye if you tried to cheat, and there were the winged ones that would practically fly across the floor and out the ring if you barely even nicked it. And then there were the gunpowder ones that would blow up so you'd have to take care in avoiding them. Dorian had heard there were several other types but the store he had gotten his from had been out of he others.

Still his pride and joy was the czech glass marble etched with his family's crest. It had been his great great great Uncles and was rumored to be endowed with a luck spell, that ensured the user to win any match it was used in. Dorian wasn't sure he believed it or not as he had never resorted to using it before. He didn't want to chance it and lose it to someone. In the USA the kids always played for keeps.

"Argh!" Dorian exclaimed as he climbed up the steps of the Slytherin Common Room. He exited the cellar wall and made his way up to a part of the castle hallways that were usually filled with other first years looking for games and opponents to challenge to games. He wasn't sure if any of them played marbles or not but he figured if he didn't ask around he'd never find out.

Serge was truly the king of games, he had beaten ever kid so far at anything he'd even attempted. Of course, that as probably because he'd only played to games today, but he had won them both and was feeling rather confidant about everything.

He had originally came to the 'game hall,' as he of so cleverly dubbed it, only because his plans had been smashed. Not only was it raining buckets, Kennedy had a paper to write, because he "put it off too long and it was due soon," whatever that was suppose to mean- and he wasn't about to spend his day cooped up in the library of all places.

He had just finished wiping the floor with one kid, a short, dumpy little boy, at exploding snap. His win may have happened because he was rather good at cards, or that the Hufflepuff was just bosh at them, or maybe a combination of the two, but he still counted it as a win, and grew ever worse for it.

Perhaps he was a sore looser, or maybe he was just tired of Serge being a sore winner, but he snapped, and pushed Serge hard because of all the taunting and gloating that came from his mouth. Angry, now that he was on the floor and his marbles were spilling from his pockets, Serge glared at the boy who's name he never even caught.

"What is you're problem!?" He stood, towering over the short little thing who realized his mistake too late. Serge sent the boy off with a rough shove, and glared at his retreating back. Crossing his arms angrily, he huffed, before picking up his spilled marbles.

Dorian stood in the hall watching the different pairs and groups of kids play games for several moments. He scowled slightly, it didn't appear that there was anyone free for a game. He was about to leave to find another area of kids when he heard the sound of spilling marbles. His ears pricked up and he made his way over to where the sound had come from.

He found a teal haired boy glowering over a rather short hufflepuff boy who was staring up at him wide eyed. Dorian knew better than to interrupt the showdown and waited leaning lazily against the wall not even caring that he was getting his jacket all dusty and full of spiderwebs.

Dorian noticed a stray marble down by his feet and bent down and picked it up and then held it out to the boy who was picking up his marbles. "You missed one." He said simply, eying the other closely. "Would you like to play a game?"

Seven... Serge was counting the marbles as he picked them up, he didn't really want to loose any of them. Eight... Thankfully, he hadn't dropped them all, but he was still missing two more. Nine... One more. Where was it?

Serge looked up, eyes meeting the shiny, moss colored sphere. "Thanks." He said, grinning, before plucking it out of the hand it was in. Serge stood, stuffing the marbles back in the little pouch. It didn't really occur to him that he'd have to take them out again.

"D' love to." Serge grinned again, before turning away from the green haired boy and walking to a clear area. "B't first, a game-square." Serge took a small stick of chalk out of the marble-pouch in his pocket before kneeling down and drawing a fair sized circle on the stone floor. While this was in no way a game-"square," it was what Serge wanted.

"How're we gonna play?" He asked, leaning back and sitting on his feet. "You kin go first." While he wasn't exactly a gentleman, and this random boy would not be someone one uses gentleman techniques on, Serge felt that he should go first. He did ask to play, after all.

Dorian couldn't quite place the other's accent but it sounded either Irish or Scottish. He knew better than to ask as that might just annoy the other.

"You're welcome," he replied his eyes wandering to eye the other's marble pouch. He wondered what sort of marbles the other might have collected. Perhaps he could tell him about them as they played. Dorian got a thrill of excitement when the other readily agreed to a game.

"You mean a circle,"
Dorian said with a laugh as the other proceeded to draw a large circle. "I'd say we'd play fair, we both go home with the same marbles. Or we could bet something else if you're the more adventurous type." Dorian replied and then moved over to the circle and drew two long lines with his chalk on either side of the circle and drew out shooter marble. He hunched over slightly and tossed the marble into the circle. The marble rolled to the second line and stopped right at the edge. "Well if you can get it that close then we'll have to lag again." Dorian replied, eying the other closely.
"Where are my manners, I'm Dorian Devereux, what's your name?" Dorian asked a little annoyed he hadn't thought to introduce himself before.

Serge rolled his eyes with a grin, circle, square, same diff. It didn't really matter to him what he called it as long as he was right. That sometimes got some teachers angry, though. "Alright." He agreed. While getting some new marbles might be fun, he already knew how to use his pretty well, and he wasn't even guaranteed a win. Who knew, the boy may have been an expert. Thought... betting did sound terribly fun.

"Do ya like sweets? We'ken bet those." Serge grinned at the boy, watching as he drew some lines. He snorted. Didn't this kid have ears? He could go first. Rolling his eyes once more, Serge fished about in his pocket for his favorite marble. It looked like there was an entire ocean contained in it, sea animals occasionally surfacing among the waves. When he rolled it, it sent up a very fine mist, and he could smell the beach.

Leaning over the circle, Serge rolled, rather pathetically, his marble. As he intended, it stopped nowhere near the boy's glass one. "There ya go." He said, picking up his shooter before rolling the other one to the boy. "You get'a go first."

Serge pushed himself back so he could sit comfortably, crossed-legged. He pulled out his pouch and dug a hand deep into it, grabbing a fistful of marbles before dropping them into the circle, scattering them. He looked them over and mentally counted them. Seven.

"Devereux?" Serge's nose squished as he tried to think. "You're'a Slytherin, right?" Serge bit the inside of his cheek, before nodding- sure. "The name's Serge. Nice'ta meet'cha." Serge grinned again, closing his pouch and stuffing it deep into his pocket.

Dorian liked the idea of betting sweets, even though his pocket money was limited. He'd have to carefully plan how to use it so it would last until his father could send more. "Sounds good to me." Dorian replied, not noticing the other's annoyance with him. He hadn't noticed that the other had told him he could go first. He was just so used to performing this part that it was kind of second nature.

Dorian frowned when Serge didn't really make that much of an attempt when rolling his marble. He could play couldn't he? Or did he just not want to go first? Dorian shrugged, and undid his pouch and dumped his marbles in his hand. He palmed his back up shooter and dumped the rest of his marbles in the circle, nine gleaming marbles bounced onto the ground and settled with Serge's seven.

"Yes, I am a Slytherin. It's nice to meet you too Serge." Dorian replied, and then got down on one knee, eyed the set up and then took a shot at the nearest marble. His shooter hit it and the marble flared up in flames as it sped towards two other marbles and caused them to fly out of the circle. Dorian's shooter came to a stop short of the circle.

"I guess I get another shot," Dorian said as he gathered up the marbles that had gone outside the circle. He glanced at them closely then made a pile on the ground out of the way. He lined up his shooter again and this time shot just one out with his shooter following it outside the circle. Dorian gathered up both of them and moved out of the way.
"Your turn," He said gesturing to Serge.

Serge watched as Dorian prepared himself to go. If he was one to do so, he might have studied his form, watched his every move like a hawk, but Serge was an easy-going guy, and so only watched with interest in the game.

He couldn't help but laugh when the the marble Dorian hit caught on fire, it's magical properties sending multiple marbles scattering. "Wicked." He grinned. Even though he had them back home, there was rarely a time he was allowed to play with the magical marbles, and it was still a new enough treat that he was surprised, especially when it was someone else's marbles. He couldn't possibly know all of them, and looked forward to it.

He was glad that these were easier to recognize. Sometimes when he played with his friends back home, he'd just take home a random jumble of spheres home because he couldn't tell the difference, but here he could tell exactly which ones belonged to which kid. Already one of Serge's, a icy looking thing that was cold to the tough, was gleaming prettily in Dorian's pile.

"Alright then, les'see what I get." Serge aimed his shooter at one of his own marbles, a green, oozing sphere that never seemed to want to leave the ring.
((Rolling for initiative! :"D ))
((... 6 evens in a row... Well... this wasn't thought through, apparently. Next time, definitely a bigger dice. -sighs-))

While the sticky green one refused to move from the ring completely it did send it flying out... then back in. Serge was about to curse the thing for bad luck, but it knocked into another marble on the way. He cheered when it rolled just outside the ring, and he picked it up to pocket it in his other pocket. (He always tended to knock piles over and loose some marbles, so pockets were actually the safest place)

"I'm awesome!" He cheered. Serge was a confidant, highly competitive person. He picked up his shooter once more, leaving it inside the ring, before tossing it between a shiny red one and his springy moss one. It was good fun watching the red one scream as it rolled, loud noises where the best! If only he had one that made an explosion sound... Unfortunately, it didn't leave the circle, but the mossy one did, attaching like velcro to a yellow one that seemed to be made of fur. Unsure of what to do with the attached two, as one was still sitting happily inside the circle, Serge shrugged his shoulders. He aimed his marble at it again, and his ocean in a globe fell out with it as well.

Pocketing the two, Serge sent in marble in again, confidant it would cause all the other marbles to jump out in fear, but it only bumped into one of Dorian's marbles before coming to a stop. "Aww..." Serge crossed his arms, frowning at Dorian's marble that ruined his streak. Pouting at his loss, he waited for Dorian to take his turn.
((I only chose three. Six... What am I suppose to do with that! D:< ))

(6/16 marbles out of play, figured this might help)
Dorian could tell that while Serge pretended to be easy going he was very competitive, especially from he had seen before they had started the game. he smiled at Serge in a friendly manner glad to see that the other boy was a rather fair contender. Dorian hated when he was playing someone who was obviously not an even match to his own expertise. He always felt like he had to downplay his skills and or the other would consider him a con.

"Nice shooting, looks like we're pretty evenly matched." Dorian told him with a grin. He waited with his hands in his pockets as Serge took his next shot. He shook his head at the other's misfortune at his last shot and then eyed the ten marbles that were left in the circle. He rubbed his chin as he considered which angle might allow him to get more out. Finally he made a choice, walked over to a different side, knelt, aligned his marble and shot it into the circle. There was a loud crack and a flash of bright light boomed out of the marble his shooter had connected with and Dorian fell back with a startled cry.

"What the heck was that?!" He exclaimed as he jumped to his feet. In the circle where his shooter had been just moments before was a dark crater in the circle and the smell of brimstone. Dorian cursed in french, and groaned. "I guess I should have asked what the marbles did, I didn't think they'd sell those kind of things to kids." He finally said with frustration. Now he was going to have to resort to using his prized shooter. "I don't have another shooter here with me but I do have one back in my room, do you mind if I go grab it?" Dorian asked looking over at Serge.
