Sailor Moon is coming back to the 'States after a 6 year gap of them being out of print!

Codename: Sailor V is coming to the states for the first time ever and also "bonus material" which can mean a variety of anything. Either way it's AWESOME!!!

The article specifically stated USA. :C BUT! Since you are in Canada, Nyx, it shouldn't be too hard to order a set from here right? I mean it is a pain but...that's way better then from Japan. In Japanese. At least in America we speak English! And since this is the first English copy of Codename: Sailor V being released, you might just wanna order it anyway. 3nodding

Lol I have no idea if ordering them will work out very well my last experiences with ordering things from the US never exactly worked out nicely lol I will end up doing so if it won't release up here XP

Yeah, I hear that ordering from the US to Canada is a pain... I have an anime catalogue (from '01/ '02) that claimed they would ship to Canada without inflating the price for shipping over the border. ^^ I wonder if it's still around...

And anyway, wasn't the Sailor Moon anime dubbed in Canada? Was it restricted to the States, or was it released in Canada at the same time? >.>; Just curious.

And bonus material is all the short manga episodes, (Rini's Picture Diary, et al), and most likely more behind-the-scenes goodies, probably centering on Naoko Takeuchi's adventures in re-drawing the entire series. (("So my fans were asking why Usagi had a mask in the first volume, but she almost never used it. Well, when my editors and I were discussing the design of a super-powered Japanese school girl..."))

I've heard that since Sailor Moon, she has written many manga, but because of the enormity of the popularity of Sailor Moon, the other mangas were considered if not flops, then just not as good as Sailor Moon. Poor woman worked herself into a pigeon-hole. ^^;

lol we had the anime I grew up with it and Cardcaptor Sakura (er well it was just Cardcaptors to me then I guess)

Admittedly I was about 5-6 at the time and well I didn't remember it as well as some do lol one of my biggest memories not directly show related are nearly cring when I discovered I'd never (to my knowledge XP) see it again. Before I rewatched the entire series on youtube (with painfully slow internet ^^; ) me and my bestie reffered to Tuxedo Mask as Rose Man cause we couldnt even remember his name

Anyways enough of my ranting about awesome childhood memories... I am guessing it will release here too but you never know there is always one crazt thing or another going on if not I'll take a trip to the states and get it myself... after they all come out so it wont be a wasteful trip of course

Additionally I would like to state that this is quite a big step in the direction we American fans are hoping for. Let me explain:

1. There have been *rumors* that Sailor Moon might be either aired again in the US or redubbed in its entirety. (Unconfirmed)
2. Sailor Moon anime is being re-released in various foreign countries. (Confirmed, sources pending)
3. Pirated Sailor Moon anime, which used to lie dormant on such sites as YouTube for years, is being very suddenly, very quickly kicked off and washed out in DROVES. YouTube doesn't just delete people's accounts because they think the users are pirating movies and anime, they only do so in response to THE ACTIVE THREAT of lawsuit from the copyright holders. Said copyright holders haven't bothered before; why are they suddenly so intensely interested now? (Confirmed, sources have been deleted, lol. XD)
4. There have been rumors of newly-made Sailor Moon anime products, such as brooches and other transformation items. (Unconfirmed)
5. Various websites have been created specifically to petition for Sailor Moon to air again in the States. These have been around for a long time, and they are getting very good responses and making a large impact. (Confirmed, sources pending)

And lastly,
6. Well, here you have the news already that they are selling the manga here once again. As a marketing strategy, mangas are not often released in the US without the release of the anime as well, either right before or just afterwards. For the most part, there is more of a demand for anime here than manga, but once viewers get absorbed in the anime, the demand for the original manga rises as a result. (Part A confirmed, source cited above.)

I think we can take this as a very hopeful sign for us all. >^-^<

If you decide that you'd like to cross the border of your country just to get your hands on some Sailor Moon manga, then more power to you! XD *High five.*

Translation notes! Woot!

I wouldn't know since I'm in the U.S., however if there's a Barns and Noble there (I don't know if there is, again, I'm not there) then they reside in the U.S. as well, and ordering from them has been good for me so I suggest going that route. They also have a website, again, in my experience very good service. Mom and I order a lot of books from there, they also sell a LOT of manga, I'm assuming they'll get their hands on SM (they sell some of it's material even today) so, again, highly suggested.

Well going on wikimoon I found that DiC had it's HQ in the US and Cloverway was simply the N.A. branch of Toei, also in the U.S. I would guesstimate that when SM was on TV Canada has Cartoon Network (or at least a branch of it) and that's how they saw it. Nyx can correct me if I'm wrong! XD

I know the article for the manga mentioned some "bonus material" but it wasn't too specific. I know none of that stuff, anime nor manga were ever exported to the U.S. Keeping in mind we didn't even get Stars, getting Codename: Sailor V I feel is a huge step for the U.S.!

You are actually correct in that Naoko Takeuchi HAS written SEVERAL different mangas...but most of them have been terrible flops.

Here's a list of her notable manga:

Codename: Sailor V (1991-1997)
Pretty Soldier Sailor Moon (1992-1997)
Toki☆Meka! (2001)
Toki☆Meca! (2005-2006)

Not...as...notable:

Prism Time (1986–1997) - a bunch of VERY short stories

Chocolate Christmas (1987–198 cool
Maria (1989–1990)
The Cherry Project (1990–1991)
Miss Rain (1993)
PQ Angels (1997)
Princess Naoko Takeuchi's Return-to-Society Punch!! (199 cool
Love Witch (2002)

She's also illustrated for a bunch of other authors but all of those mangas have been flops too.

1) I treated those rumors like the "Live Action Movie" rumors, but with the release of the manga....sooo happy...but I'll believe it when I see it.
2) GO ITALY! A new game is coming out too!
3) I KNOW RIGHT!? It happened really suddenly, I guess that has to do with the license being renewed.
4) Again, I don't usually trust rumors, I'll believe it when I see it. There is at least HOPE now~
5) I remember reading about how suddenly websites are getting responses, I don't know any detail though but it makes sense now.
6) Good point, usually anime and manga are released around the same time. Even if it doesn't air on TV, I would love to get my hands on an HD copy of the anime, or an official release of Stars on DVD, or SOMETHING! I'm not aiming too high here~! Of course it IS Sailor Moon, so we have a good chance now.

Yes, well, the point of #1 was to illustrate how the rumors came out first-- not in response to any official announcements. This sounds like information leak, and judging by my following points, they seem to hold just a little more weight now.

I did make certain to lable the rumors as "rumors" (i.e.: "unconfirmed"), so readers can understand the difference and form an opinion for themselves. I'm not going wild about these rumors, because like you, I'm wary of such (I remember certain rumors about Sailor Moon from back in 2000 that never came true).

As for the Sailor Moon products... I really, really, really wish I could remember where I heard those... they *did* sound plausible at the time, for a variety of reasons... Then again, they may have been based on PGSM, rather than the anime. I'm not sure. :/

Edit: My post of points which you quoted has been edited to show which have been confirmed yet... sources at this time are pending because it's 7AM and I have yet to go to sleep. ^^;

Of course, rumors are rumors, lol, I wasn't trying to come off as judgmental or anything. The sources will be useful, I'd like to check them out myself anyway. Especially if you have any responses directly from Kodansha. Take your time.

P.S. Since we're talking about manga, when are you going to post your fan manga? I'm not rushing you, just askin~
