Setting: More specifically than Telestia, this role play is going to take off in a town called Danam. This town is on the outskirts of Haraslade boundaries, formed mainly of refugees of mancers fleeing from Haraslade, since the reign of King Herick, who is a telestian. There are a few neighboring towns, Gadah, Poreck, and Laslaw, also formed from refugee Mancers and their families. Poreck, however, has been expanding, as even non-mancers who disagree with Telestian ways, have been moving there. Also because it has the most fertile land of the four towns.

Danam is the third largest, with a population of about 400 people. The appointed leader Ariam, has been troubled. The furthest away of the quartet of towns, Gadah, suddenly up and became deserted, facing the fate of many other towns. Now it stands as a ghost town, haunting the nearby communities. There is also the fear of telestians finding them and attacking. The overall mood of the town is anxious.

Traveling time from Danam to...:
Poreck: Two full days walk, one and a half days with carriage, one day just horseback.
Laslaw: Two full days walk, one and a half days with carriage, one day just horseback.
Gadah: Four days walk, three days with carriage, two and a half days horseback.

Other than houses, Danam has a cozy Tavern called the Merry Glade, where most people gather to socialize in evenings. It has a small clinic, called the Sanctuary (founded 25 years prior), where people go for healing when they are sick or injured. A large amount of mendmancers live there, but a few live on there own and just work there. Healing is paid by donation. There is a town square with a beautiful fountain where most gossips meet, and any festivity or event is held there. It is very wide and open. Lastly, there is a small row branching from the Town Square where wooden kiosks and markets are, where farmers and tradesmen sell their goods. Any other locations can be suggested.

RULES:

1. All General Gaia Rules Apply
2. Guild rules apply
3. Please, no excessive swearing. If your character has a tendency to curse, simply state something like *lets out a string of curses* or something of the like in your pose.
4. Male mendmancers are not allowed. Until further notice, Dark force Chaomancers are also prohibited, unless given special permission from me.
5. .......I'll think of more as I see fit. Like when issues arise. This is my first time, please, give me some slack.

Remember to post character profiles here: http://www.gaiaonline.com/guilds/viewtopic.php?t=2133651

Character Profiles:

Name:
Gender:
Age:
Mancer type:
Profession and Skills:
Personality:
Brief History:
Description:

Elaboration on expectations for profiles:

Name: (please be as original as possible with these names, don't just put together a bunch of cool sounding words and pass it off as a name. I don't want to see "Strife" or "Blackrose" or "Silvercat" or... stuff like that. Just throw together a bunch of syllables that sound nice. Like "Mellanah" or "Lykeri" or "Hadrick" or "Klenda". And, this might lose me points on the popular list, PLEASE no japanese names! Alternate spellings to commonplaces European or Western names are fine - such as instead of "Erick" perhaps "Aerik" or instead of "Jennifer" "Genyfer".... or something.......)
Gender: (straight forward)
Age: (also straight forward - remmeber chaomancers grow age faster when they mature)
Mancer type: (Either non-mancer, mendmancer, animancer, or chaomancer - remember animancers are uncommon, and mendmancers are only female, and if chaomancer, specify lightening or fire)
Profession and Skills: Is your character a farmer? A worker at the Sanctuary? A bar tender? A Tailor? Or are you a lousy bum who claims to be an adventurer? What does your character do, and what skills does your character have. Can they fight? Can they fix things? Can they use rope well?
Personality: (please more than two sentences, but not more than two paragraphs)
Brief History: (A brief history, and do your best with the vague information I have provided)
Description: (This can be point form, a picture ((If a picture, please no larger than 400x400 pixels)), or just a solid paragraph briefly describing the character - just the basics please. Further detail can be revealed once in role play)

REMEMBER!

Male mendmancers (healers) will be prohibited, and so will dark force chaomancers - until further notice.

Example Profile:

Name: Ariam Breylane
Gender: Male
Age: 36
Mancer Type: Chaomancer - Lightening
Profession and skills: Ariam is the leader, or Governor, or Danam. His skills are as follows: Etiquette (although he's stopped practicing this skill), proficiency with a rapier and hunting bow, horseback riding, and above-average literacy
Personality: Ariam has a strong sense of duty and tends to be very reserved. However, a boldness blossoms when he is faced injustice. He does his best to analyze a situation before making a decision, which can cause some to grow impatient with him. He takes on a lot more responsibility than perhaps he should, and is easily troubled. Being of a serious nature, his attempts at humour are seldom, unless loosened up with a few good drinks.
Brief History: Ariam's mother married a baron of Haraslade. He was the only child, and was brought up with pride and propriety. Being blessed with lightening chaomancing, he trained vigorously to use it with great discipline, and was taught to only use his powers of destruction in self defense, or the defense of others. Because of the amount of telestians, he was also taught to keep his chaomancing in secret. When Ariam was seventeen years old, Herick's ongoing campaign to purge the kingdom of mancers proved too dangerous for Ariam to stay any longer. Ariam's mother sold most of her jewellry and gave the money to Ariam to fund his escape. He came to Danam, instantly seeking favour with the old founder, Maysha, a mendmancer, who had lived to the extraordinary age of 83. Having no family, she appointed Danam as the next leader of the small, developing town. He took the responsibility seriously, and did not seek favour with most of the townspeople at first. Complaints of him being too stiff, snobby and withdrawn were commonplace, but he asserted himself as the leader, saying he only desired to fulfill Maysha's wishes. With that argument, open complaints ceased, and he ruled to the best of his ability, trying to solve problem after problem. He never won the affection of the town of Danam, but he did win their respect.
Description: Ariam is a tall slender man. Although only in mis mid thirties, he looks about a decade older, seeming about 45 years old. HIs once brown, short hair is starting to ashen with age. He has pale grey eyes, and a very stern face, in spite of his slender frame. Although slender, he does not look weak or sickly. He keeps himself neatly trimmed and well groomed.

This is the Q&A section. If you have a question or need clarification, PM me. I request you place the subject of your PM as "Mancers Q&A". Otherwise I might ignore it. Or something.

If it's something I figure other people will ask, or other people have ASKED, then I'll post the question and an answer or explanation here.

1) Q: Wow, did you think all of that up on your own?
A: Yes. Actually, it's based loosely off of a story I started writing for NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) challenge, and just continued on. I decided there are probably enough high fantasy, medieval style role plays out there, it might be nice to have something a little different.

2 Q: What would the capabilities of a young mancer be?
A: Most mancers actually only start showing their power by the age of eight. Usually they begin training about the ages 10-12. Usually, a mancer is fully matured in their power, but with still room to grow, at about 22.
- Learning Animancers: They have little discipline and control over their kinetic and can make things move... but usually that has disastrous results as they have not learned how to direct or control their machine.
- Learning Mendmancers: They can cure bacterial induced sickness, disinfect wounds, and stabalize (keep alive but not cure) those with terminal sicknesses. The latter requires a lot of conentration.- Learning Chaomancers: Regardless of whether they use dark, fire, or lightening, they can not effect a very large radius (only about 6 feet), and they are easily exhausted. They also take longer to mance (or as some would say, cast).

3. Q: Can I be a non-mancer character?
A: Of course. Although Danam is mainly mancer refugees, friends and families of mancers would probably have fled with them. Non-mancer characters are definately allowed and in no way discouraged. EDIT: Some clarification, people can have a dormant Mancer gene in their generation for years. And like the sudden appearance of a black sheep among white sheep, a Mancer can suddenly born to a seemingly non-mancer family. The more mancers in a bloodline, the more likely to have more mancer children.

4. Q: What sort of 'classes' (like Fighter, Thief, Monk etc.) are available?
A: There aren't any set classes with a set of capabilities. You decide, within reason, what your character does for a living, and what your character is good at. If you so choose to want to base your character upon a certain class, IE a fighter, go ahead and make your character a swordsman. The only 'class' that is unthemely, is anything along the line of a black belt/karate master etc. This just means the culture/mentality of these sorts of classes. Feel free to have a character capable of fighting adequately with their bare hands, but the moment I start seeing people use oriental terms in character, I will be rightly annoyed. There is no Orient in my world - and this isn't because I dislike Asian cultures (I actually quitelike them) it's because there just is no orient, therefor no culture, therefor no language, of that sort in my world. It's unthemely.

ANNOUNCEMENTS!

03/10/06 - Mancers has begun. I have posted the first post to get things going. I will be starting out leading the plot along, and we'll see where things go from there. Remember, this is the first forum role play I've ever conducted - in fact, it's the first role play I've ever been in charge of. Have fun!

03/01/06 EDIT (Sorry, I'm changing it to sometime next week because of some... overwhelming homework + a head cold) Roleplaying shall commence VERY soon. I will, of course, make the first post. Any more comments directed towards me, or further questions/comments about the role play are now discouraged in this thread, and if used, please put them in double parentheses(sp?) ((like this)). However, best yet is to just PM me. If you wish to communicate with other players out of character, however, alsu do it ((like this)). However OOC interaction is not discouraged, in fact, feel free to do so when you think it is appropriate, but please don't go off on lengthy, irrelevant OOC tangents. Being one to go off on tangents regularly myself, I know how distracting they can be.

02/17/06 Q&A has been updated again, and there are so far three character profiles up (besides my own). ATTENTION! A new requirement has been added to character profiles: profession and skills. If you already have filled out a character profile, please add this. Also, setting has been updated with travel times between the towns around Danam. We may be able to start within the next week or two. Please be patient.

Please post your character profile in the characters and profile sub-forum. http://www.gaiaonline.com/guilds/viewtopic.php?t=2133651

I'm interested, but it will take me a while to read through everything and get my character together. If you could, please make a thread in the Characters section of the guild to place people's characters for this RP.

Good luck! It looks like you've put a lot of time and effort into this, I hope lot's of people join up!

thank you muchly!

QUESTION: Would everyone in the RP like to be PMed every time there is an update? Because when I add announcements by editting the announcement post, it does not bring up the post, therefor, no one really knows if any new announcements are made unless they check for themselves. And I do NOT want to start 'bumping' this thread once RP starts every time I have an announcement.

it's ok. Sounds good.

((Sorry folks, I said I'd have gotten it started by the end of this week, but things just did NOT look up for me. A head cold, overwhelming homework, plus a new video game have kept me at an unusual distance from my computer dwelling activities))

Laraea stepped out of the medical building, "Luminada?" she called, "Luminada I need your help with something." her voice was pitched so it could carry some distance away, but not raised in such a way that it seemed like she was yelling.

She looked around the street, and didn't notice her adoptive sister. A flutter of white attched to a tree caught her attention. She walked towards it, and started reading, her eyes widening as she understood what the post meant.
She took the paper and brought it inside the small building that was the town's medical center for the others to read.
