Christof was not necessarily afraid of heights. Mostly, he was afraid of falling, or more importantly, the part where you collided with the earth. The higher you were, the greater the speed of the fall. Having kelpies fall on you can also make even the small fall from Mistress's windows... inconvenient. For some reason, his previous ill encounter with scaling the Demon Dorms did not deter him from silently creeping along the roof just above the large, ball-room-esque common room, although this time he had a nice long rope looped around his waist which he lashed very carefully to a large stone gargoyle peering over the corner to aim it's waterspout mouth towards the gullet below. Thankfully, it was not raining now or things would have been even trickier. Now, the idea of a demons-only ball did not bother the hunchback. They had every right to throw a big fancy gala while keeping the riff-raff out... but then he had caught wind of.... a certain couple attending. The idea of Master Barth and Mistress Riley spending any sort of long period of time together horrified the Igor. Going... TOGETHER to the dance?? It was unfair! Images of their contorted, cackling faces sharing their grievances with him back and forth, swapping his failures and comparing notes had plagued his sleep the entire evening. What if others caught wind?? He knew he should be taking it easy, the fresh stitches were still sore. But... but he had to KNOW. Somehow. And so, carefully, so very carefully, he climbed to the edge of the roof, making sure his rope was tight. There was a large, high window no one would notice a face at he figured- people didn't usually try to peak in windows that were not at ground level. Slowly, carefully, he began to climb down to the shallow windowsill in the corner, clinging to the ornamental stonework as he tried to peer in and spy the purple splay of tentacles and shaggy black mop with horns. Toshihiko Two Barth's eyes widened as Riley pulled him close and then dragged him off. He had a distinct feeling of unease. He hoped she didn't want to initiate a demon duel or something. He wasn't very good at it.
...Oh. Dancing. Actually not too different from dueling.
"Alright," Barth said, recovering his dignity and footing. "It's similar to Undead Kombat. In, err, that you have different move combination."
He started slowly, and moved on to slower, and lead her easily through slowest. He had a fair repertoire of steps at his disposal, even if the tempo had been drained to a crawl.
A snail-like twirl gradually eased into a sluggish dip.
"Not difficult at all, really," he said, "This is, err, a dip." He relied on Riley to hold on and not fall. Of course, Sin (even slow) had a very different pace from the one he was using.
Christof hovered in his window, face pressed against the glass as he practically glowered down into the dance floor. They were... dancing? Oh no oh no! What would Master Malodore think?? Did it know?? He would have to report to him immediately the intimate touches, the twirls and dips- Nio Love She was instantly relieved to hear that learning how to dance would be as easy as learning how to play a video game. She had picked the right instructor.
Her eyes drifted down to follow his feet, her face the picture of determination. Her own feet followed his every move, whirling slowly in tandem - until suddenly her world was upside down, and her tentacles were tasting floor.
She blinked at the position he'd bent her into, cataloguing it internally as a 'dip', before something else caught her eye.
She pulled herself up, and slid both her arms around his neck to pull him closer. Her eyes were narrowed to slits.
Barth, she whispered into his ear, although obviously she didn't actually whisper into his ear. It was just habit to place her face in that position. It seems we have a spy.
She backed her head away slightly and her chin nudged in the direction of the window, where she had suddenly noticed Christof watching from a window. Toshihiko Two "Is there?" he asked, sneaking a look himself. There was.
Well, he isn't doing any harm. He thought back to her. Is he? What's he doing up there in the first place? The last time Christof had been hanging about windows the situation had...gone to pieces.
Suddenly, Riley's glowing blank eyes were arched in his direction as the demon dipped the demoness down low and the hunchback flinched backward in horror. Had they seen him?? He hoped not! He had specifically worn the black clothing he still had borrowed from Barth and his Oogie Boogie performance, but apparently that did not bode well for his mostly blonde hair and mostly pale face. After a few moments, he shifted back into the window, trying to see if he could at least read their lips from this distance....

The hunchback leaned in to the glass, shivering now as the wind whipped past him, and not even his scarf could keep out the cold but he was glued to the spot with the fires of paranoia and obsession keeping him warm. Mismatched eyes locked on the figures... that.. steadily became more and more boring the more they waffled in place. Were they talking? Brows furrowed, he tried to see what had them so distracted... or was that just Master Barth? Probably just Master Barth. And then the crippled-winged boil and that entrancing set of legs that he could see from all the way up there, shining in the candlelight as they twirled and chacha'ed and splayed, his breath caught in his throat... Nio Love Riley seemed just a little surprised that Barth had suddenly started speƄaking to her in thoughts, but she didn't let on too much. There's no legitimate reason for him to be spying on this event, which leaves his reasoning to, by process of elimination, be illegitimate. Her eyes twinkling mischievously. To an outsider, this would seem rather intimate. I think he's worried we're becoming friends. Either that.. or he's getting a good look at some of the student body's finer specimens. Both options are unsavory, not to mention he's probably going to fall. Again. Her chest rose and fell in a sigh. Nevertheless.. I find myself at odds with whether I want to do anything about it or not.
Her eyes tilted to the side, watching Sin's spectacle. As her and Barth had been more or less swaying sluggishly for the last few minutes, she found Sin's movements both intriguing, and horrifying.
.. Is that dancing? She asked cautiously. I don't think I want to do that. Why were they just wobbling there? Eventually the dance ended, and his attention was drawn back to the shambling couple he was there to spy on. Her eyes were twinkling. Was she laughing?? What was she laughing about?? He wished he had thought of slipping an ear into Barth's coat pocket while he still had the chance. Hell's Bells. Not that that would have done any good with his Mistress's Mind Speech. Toshihiko Two Both good guesses. Barth thought.
Christof did have a thing for demonesses, he'd noticed. Although he wasn't sure if it was about the marks, or the anatomy.
"Yes. That's a little, err, fast for me," Barth admitted, on the subject of dancing. Also, succubus demons had different sorts of dances. And dance parties. Sin and Rosc's dizzying and definitely spicy whirl of steps had come to an end with the end of the song. Barth released Riley civilly.
"But tango is a competitive dance." He executed a pointed yawn.
Nio Love Why did she find herself consistently surprised by Barth? He knew exactly what to say to make her interested in a subject. It was dangerous. Nevertheless, the idea of something being competitive drove her instantly to awareness, and she narrowed her eyes for a moment, before they clouded over foggily.
Oh, she was not about to be trumped.
The introduction of Riley to the wondrous wealth of knowledge available at the touch of an eyephone, or a computer, could end up being the biggest mistake of all time. However, for now, it would come in handy. Since Israfel had already gotten her worried about her dancing prowess for the upcoming Scareintine's Day dance, she had been looking up some modern dance interpretations in her spare time. The only issue was that on paper, dance moves seemed easy. In real life, one had to have poise, balance, and grace to make the moves themselves look good.
While she currently pulled up all of the dance moves on tango that she'd read, they still wouldn't help her look like Sin and Rosciel. The only thing that would help her look like Sin and Rosciel.. were Sin and Rosciel. She merged the two piles of information - one being the dance moves, and the other being the visual performance the other demons had just performed, before her eyes focused sharply on Barth once more.
Suddenly, her elbows rose up, and her poise was impeccable. She took Barth in her arms, switching positions suddenly so that she was leading, and snapped him against her fully. Her eyes were filled with a fierce determination - if they were going to dance, they were going to dance to win.
Then let's play. Toshihiko Two Barth slumped into her grip.
"Err, Riley...? We aren't going to go very fast, are we? Because I- erk!"
And then it was too late, because slow, slower, and slowest was no longer on the table. Barth instead concentrated on buckling up, keeping his horns in an upright position, and trying not to slam into anything. Nio Love Riley knew it was going to be an uphill battle, trying to get Barth to dance with her. It was his fault she was determined in the first place, so she felt no remorse for him. In fact, if he was really going to be this difficult, she would have to take matters into her own hands. Or, tentacles, in this case.
One tentacle each wrapped around Barth's wrist, while another clasped his collar to keep him straight. Don't fall asleep. She commanded, before he was suddenly twirling away from her by the tentacles that held his hands. They pulled him back to her with a rapid movement. Now just do what I do. You can handle that, right? Her voice had a touch of challenge in it.
Her leg bent around his, kicking forward and then back in traditional tango style. To Be continued/ Concluded...
