He has inherited not only his mother's freckles, but her fiery red hair. A coppery shade of orange-red, it stubbornly sticks out at all angles, and it takes all of his mother's magic to tame it. He may have inherited Kali's hair color, but he's inherited Lance's wild cow-licks, and added a few of his own. He will take to his father's example of spiking his hair up so it looks as if it's supposed to be like that, rather than fighting with it every day.
He's also inherited his father's bright green eyes, though his seem to be a slightly lighter shade.
Slender and slim, he does not have the Kovak height gene in him, and when he grows, it will be mostly in age - yes, James will never be very tall, but don't mention it to him. He's tall in spirit, and if anyone calls him a shrimp, he'll kick their a**.
Short, and a bit scrawny, he's fairly lean and despite his stature, strong. With a nearly never-ending fountain of energy, he is constantly on the move, and constantly looking for something new to do. He is a bit ADD in that aspect, meaning, he cannot focus on one thing for very long without actually TRYING to do so.
He has his mother's fiery red-headed temper, what with his being one himself, and he is quick to use it. A hot head, many things set him off, though mostly it is bullies. He hates to see others be picked on, perhaps because he's picked on so often himself. A short, freckly ginger, he's a target for them - but he quickly teaches them that he is not one to be messed with.
He's a generous, kind hearted boy, despite his temper. He always helps the underdog, and has a strong sense of justice. He gives to those that need it, and if he can't, well, he will surely give a valiant attempt. When he sets his mind to something, he will find a way to accomplish it...so long as something shiny doesn't catch his eye. He is, however, not unintelligent. Though school is hard for him, he is a bright and creative boy, and will come to find a great love for music and art of all kinds.
With Lance as his father, Charlie as his uncle, and Howl as his babysitter, it's pretty much pre-ordained that James becomes a lady-charmer. He'll be quick to aid any lady in need, compliment them, and then sweep them off their feet with a kiss. On the cheek, of course - until he's older. Despite his mother's (And possibly his father's) best efforts, he will definitely be educated in the ways of romance. ｔｈｅ ＰＯＳＩＴＩＶＥ►►ＬＩＫＥＳ►►►► ｍｕｓｉｃ► ► ► ►► James's childhood was filled with music. His father is an aspiring rock-star, and his mother has a love for all things musical, so there was almost always something musical going on in their house. James likes all kinds of music, and all kinds of instruments, though his favourites are rock and guitar.►►►► ｆｏｏｄ► ► ► ►► James's mom likes to eat, and has the metabolism and appetite to do so. He's inherited these from her. He's also taken an interest in cooking, and is fairly good at it, like his mom.►►►► ａｃｔｉｖｉｔｙ► ► ► ►► James is, as I've said, a rough and tumble kind of kid. He's always on the move, always doing something, always playing some sort of game or running around. His parents had to quietly play the radio or a CD while he slept to actually get him to stay asleep. If it becomes quiet, he quickly begins to hum, or make some sort of noise. The silence seems unnatural to him, and when he was younger he even admitted to his mom that he thought there was a 'quiet monster' that came when everything was silent.►►►► ｂｅｅｓ► ► ► ►► James is deathly allergic to bees, and ever since a severe reaction as a small child, he's developed an almost paralyzing fear of them. Perhaps it's because he's picked on so often himself. He finds that he cannot focus, and the teachers often get frustrated with him for this, and the fact that he can't seem to sit still. As such, it's not one of his favourite things. All he gets to do is get yelled at and be bored all day. Standing at approximately 6'0, he is long and lean, with a fairly average amount of muscles on him. Specifically, he has a rather nice set of abs; and his rear ain't too shabby either. A proud boy of Irish descent, he can usually be found wearing shamrock covered boxers, or 'kiss me, I'm Irish' shirts. Most of his pants are ripped, because he's poor it looks cool. Of course, he can also be found naked, especially considering it's a requirement for his favorite pass-time. Though he has no tattoos, he has a total of nine piercings; three in his right ear, two in his left, as well as one in each his lip, tongue, right eyebrow, and nose. Caucasian, though naturally pale, he does not wear make up. At all. Ever. He is definitely not the type. Not even nail-polish. Make-up is for girls, and pussies who want to try and make themselves look more bad-a** than they really are.
As a guitarist, he has hard callouses built up on his hands and fingers, making them rather rough. His hands are fairly large, though that is genetics; it just makes reaching the chords easier. ►►►► Kali is porcelain pale, almost scarily so. Her eyes serve a steep contrast to her skin, dark and almost black, often seeming like two dark bruises on her face. She is merry and rosy, however, most often and avoids looking like a corpse. Her pale skin is 'marred' by freckles that she hates and covers with make up or an illusion when it suits her. Which is...well, pretty much all the time. Only those closest to her learn that she has freckles, and even then, they are sworn into secrecy.
Her hair is perhaps her most distinguishing feature, flaming red and down to her waist. When the sunlight hits it, just so, it almost seems as if her head is on fire. Her bangs sweep off to the side of her face, and she keeps it all out of her eyes in a large ponytail.
She constantly wears a black choker, imbued with magic that marks her as Zak's apprentice. A more apt description of the necklace is 'collar', as she has no choice but to obey any verbal commands he gives her. She has, however, found loopholes in this rule.
Most of her wardrobe is what many would describe as 'skanky', short skirts and tops that show off the perky breasts that she's rather proud of. However, she is not a slut; just a flirt. She has just as many pants as she does skirts, and always wears underwear. Frilly and lacy, but it's still underwear.
Her body shape is slim, and curvy. Her grandmother likes to point out that she's made to bear children, with hips to handle twins and breasts for feeding. Kali truly, truly hates it when they're referred to in this context. She's fairly short, though, and lacks the long legs that usually go with her physique. (She's a bit bitter about this.)
Standing at 5'3.5 (and don't you ever forget that .5!) and weighing in at 110 pounts, she doesn't cut a very formidable figure, but don't underestimate her. Possessing a bright, acid green magic, she is not afraid to blow up some heads or melt some faces.
After years of running around with Zak, and just from coming from the family she does, Kali is fairly lean and fit, able to hold her own in a physical fight and with endurance to rival a horse. She doesn't tire easily; something Lance is only too happy to take advantage of.
Her ears are pierced, twice on each, and she constantly keeps a pair of gold hoops, and a pair of turquoise studs in them. ｔｈｅ ＩＮＳＩＤＥ►►►►ｗｏｒｓｈｉｐ► ► ► ►► Himself.► ► ► ►► The Goddess - a magical diety followed by ancient mages. In fact, the only person that he's probably EVER opened up to is Charlie. Despite his roughness, he's still capable of being of being a decent human being however - one just has to dig down deep enough. He also has a love of women. To put it quite simply, Lance is a man-whore. He likes to sleep around, and has only ever been in one serious relationship in this life - one which went rather badly. He's capable of commitment, but has had no reason to be in a relationship for a very long time.
Lance holds a fair bit of bitterness when it comes to his father - as far as he's concerned, Jake McCoy could drink himself to death, and Lance wouldn't miss him in the least. Perhaps this is cruel, but he doesn't see any reason as to why he should miss the a*****e that made his childhood a living hell.
Compared to his best friend, Charlie, Lance isn't very social. He takes a while to become truly close to people, and even longer to open up to them. Despite this, he has a love for music and parties, especially raves. Lance can be rough around the edges, but deep down, he means well. ►►►► Kali's personality, in many ways, matches her hair. Fiery, and unwilling to go down without a fight, she has a spark that can burst into either excitement or anger at the slightest touch. Most of the time, however, she's happy, calm, coy, and sly. A fan of subterfuge, sometimes you won't even know she hates you. But if she hates you, she hates you. Vindictive to the core, she holds grudges, and will never forget a wrong done to her or one of her friends. Fiercely loyal, she won't stand for anyone hurting them; even if she often hurts them herself, from speaking without thinking, or acting without thinking, or...well, pretty much not thinking and being inconsiderate.
She's a very judgmental person, and is always quick to form an opinion. She's also quick to inform everyone of her opinion. Talkative, she loves to argue and to fight. This trait doesn't do well for her relationship with Lance, and they fight a lot. And then she sulks, and pouts. She's pretty good at it. Stubborn, she doesn't like to admit when she's wrong, and adores being right, though that has nothing to do with her being as stubborn as an angry old goat. She gloats a lot, and is embarrassed easily. ｔｈｅ ＰＡＳＴ►► Lance's childhood was far from anything that would have been considered to be good. His mother, Constance, left him and his father long before Lance could even remember, and his father was definitely not what you would call 'parent material'. A heavy drinker, Jake McCoy was abusive almost from the start, beating Lance on whims - anything that went wrong was automatically Lance's fault for one reason or another, and there was nothing that the boy could do to convince his father of otherwise. This also left Lance with the task of fulfilling most of the household duties, whether they be cleaning, cooking, or whatever else his father happened to have neglected.
At some point during his early school years, Lance met a young man by the name of Charnelle Bourgeois - or, as he preferred to be called, Charlie. The the two of them ended up becoming good friends, and have remained as such for the past few years. Occasionally, Lance gets fed up with Charlie; but then again, who in the world always loves their best friend? Especially when said best friend has a long lived goal of getting into your pants.
When he was younger, Lance took an interest in music, and specifically, playing the guitar. A kind shop owner gave him his first when he was nine. He still has it - it's name is 'The Old Boy'. Very quickly, music became more than a hobby for Lance. It was a way for him to forget about his shitty life at home. The years went by, and the two of them started up a band that they called 'Body Contact' - Charlie became the drummer, and Lance did vocals and the lead guitar. They have one other friend named Gin who plays Bass for the band.
Lance is what most people would call 'Sexually Promiscuous', in that he is an enormous man-whore. It started shortly after the first relationship he had went down the happy drain of betrayal. He caught his first girlfriend, Mariana, in bed with someone else, at the tender age of 14. Yes, Lance started early, and after Mariana he cut quite the swathe through Gaian women. He's not quite as bad as Charlie, considering that his interests reside solely in the realm of 'female', as opposed to 'everything that moves'. He is also what people describe as a 'party kid', though again, he is not as bad as Charlie is. He loves parties, and raves.
If there is one thing he has inherited from his father, Lance can drink - a lot. He has not inherited his father's habit of beating small children while drunk, however, which is a good thing. Mostly he just humps things.
When he was sixteen, Lance left his father's house and got an apartment in Barton Town with Charlie. He has never looked back. As far as he's concerned, his father can drink himself to death, and Lance wouldn't bat an eyelash at it. In fact, he would probably laugh. He sees no reason to care about the man who clearly didn't care about him.
Currently, Lance and Charlie are trying to get the band some publicity, and Lance works at one of the local movie theaters. The two were 'Blessed' by a shadow named Cain, and it was because of this shadow that he and Charlie attended a children's party hosted by Thali - this is where he met Kali. What started as the best part of a party turned into a date, somehow - something he didn't often do. But, it worked, despite a few initial ******** ups, and he quickly found himself making a habit of clambering in through her window. Not that he has something against the front door, but the behemoth uncle that guards said front door has something against him. ►► Kali was, like most Kovaks, born in a rather 'ghetto' area of Aekea. Her childhood was nothing horrible, but she quickly learned what it meant to stand up for yourself. She also learned to stand up for others. Friend to a rather meek boy, she saw bullies targeting him daily. His life was hell, and she couldn't stand it.
She tried to help, but there really wasn't much such a tiny girl could do. At least, not until her outburst. It is an incident that her parents refer to by name only, and not in situations when they are pleased with her. 'The Outburst' left four children hospitalized, and Kali in very serious trouble. Her mother, thankfully, knew what was going on. Kali was magic, and it had just surfaced.
She was sent, of course, to various private classes, though the teacher they finally settled on was a man named Zak. Kali hated him with a fiery passion, but he did his job. She learned how to control her magic, and a multitude of useful spells. Training ended, however, when her Aunt Elisa died. The whole family was affected, though perhaps not as deeply as Viktor. It didn't take long for them to notice that he was no longer able to properly care for Katia, but no one had the heart to tell this to the proud man.
Instead, they sent Kali to watch over Katia. Unable to accept this as her sole objective, Kali quickly set to 'fixing' her uncle, tongue-lashing him out of the room and berating him back to work. She helped Katia with her school-work, and even rid her of a particularly nasty group of bullies. Katia and Viktor soon became as close to her as her own father and mother; and she was rightfully upset when the time came for her to leave.
Upon returning home, she found things were not as she had left them. Her parents were holding world war three nightly at the dinner table, tossing insults back and forth until it escalated into a full-blown screaming match. Things were thrown, broken; and then finally, they separated. Her mother, however, was unable to find another house to live in. So, they divided the house equally, and both stay there.
The situation is less than bearable. Kali was quick to let them know, and told them that if they didn't improve, she'd leave. They didn't take her seriously, and after yet another fight broke out, she packed her bags and left.
Only then did it occur to her that she had nowhere else to go. It took her a few hours, and a lot of phone calls, but she finally remembered Viktor and Katia's house. She hitch-hiked out to their house on Gambino Island, only to find it empty and deserted.
She was now homeless.
She wandered for a while, breaking into the house and sleeping in the porch for a night. The next day she headed to Viktor's company and asked for a meeting. They told her that she'd have to wait for a week. So, she did, squatting in his old house and buying food with the money that she'd had sense enough to bring with her.
When her uncle finally saw her, he was outraged. Not at her, but at his brother; also at his secretaries, for not letting her in immediately. He quickly whisked her off to his new home in Durem, and sent a very angry message to his brother, letting him know that when he knew how to care for a child, he could have his back. This prompted a bit of a feud fueled on hypocrisy, and a falling out between the two.
Kali, however, doesn't mind. She is quite happy living with her uncle and cousin, though her parents' behaviour does bother her. It also bothers her that they have done nothing to get her back.
She met Lance at a children's party hosted by Thali, strangely enough, shortly after returning to her Uncle's house. The two hit it off, and Lance somehow convinced the skeptical red-head to go on a date with him. Not that it went particularly well. Katia followed them around, bound and determined to ruin it, not wanting the 'man-whore' near her cousin for fear that Kali could get hurt. Kali didn't particularly appreciate this, though she never did tell Lance what had ruined their first date so effectively. Since she knew it hadn't been them, or fate trying to prove a point, she gave him another chance; and they've been together ever since. Not that Viktor is happy about it. He doesn't much approve of Lance, considering he's a punk who is trying to get famous with music and works at a movie theater. His care for Kali, however, seems to have redeemed him in the large man's eyes, as well as his morals. Not that this is going to save him when he finds out that Kali's pregnant with his child...

 FAFNIR the Dragon ▶▶ xA dragon plushie enchanted to life by Howl, James has it hidden in his room so his mother won't take it away. It obeys any command he gives it, but won't harm him.
Regardless, Kali doesn't like it, and if she finds it, she will probably stuff it down Howl's throat. Or burn it. Or something equally horrible.  Wooden Sword ▶▶ xGiven to him by his Great Uncle Viktor, James loves his wooden sword, and is a the terror of his toyroom while weilding it. It's probably his third favorite toy, his first being Fafnir, and his second being the miniature guitar  Miniature Guitar ▶▶ xJames is a bit small for full sized guitars, so when his 'Uncle' Charlie and 'that-guy-who's-not-allowed-to-speak-to-Kali's-child' Gin bought him one, Kali shrunk it down so he could use it. When he grows, she'll make it bigger for him.
