Since we've never had any formal guide as to what you should do upon joining this fascinating guild of ours. So I'll just go ahead and help you newbies out with that!
Below is our little rulebook, not really all that big, but hey. It works.
Overall rules-
Alrighty, rule one.
Post length. This is a big one for me, but it is also a bendable one.
If your having a conversation or some other small interaction such as following another character, go ahead bull it and post a line or two. But if your having more interaction with another character, please post decently. Like three, four, five lines. And by more interaction I mean like, fighting with the other character, or playing a game together stuffs like that. If your posting independantly then I will expect five, six, seven and up lined posts. The enter button is your friend, and your enemy.
Here's an example of what I mean by that in an average situation:
Post with senario set up by self or in collaboration with another:
Idea.
Click. clack. Click. Clack
Her heels hit the floor before the rest of her foot, doubling the echoes off the floor as she continued to walk. The door swung open violently, a firm gloved hand slammed against the doorframe as long, white, prismatic hair was teased by the breeze of entering.
Greyish-violet eyes focused immediately on the girl and Duri, pink lips twitching before speaking
"Step. Away." She commanded the woman, her voice low and dangerous despite being loud authoritative.
Stepping forward, the heels clicked against the wood again.
the boots were black and cuffed up at her knee, white stockings reaching up to her thigh and fitting perfectly. She wore black shorts with ruffles on one side that almost looked like a skirt. A violet corset, that was almost revealing in the front because that's where it tied, barely held back the 'curves' of her body, the size almost too perfect. A black collar around her neck, and a small braid on the side of her head, June tightened her fist, her eyes almost hostile.
And a post responding to it.
Duriono and most of his company seemed to freeze for a moment, staring at the newcomer entering the building and telling Sky to piss off.
"And you are?" She tugged out a box of files from underneath the desk.
"Last time I checked, tall dark and sexy over there was fair game!"
Duriono placed a hand on his chin, thinking for amoment. Blood streaming down his face,
"What's her face has been gone for awhile now, and personally I don't think she'll be coming back anytime soon! So don't just come strutting in like you own the guy.
Ju...June? Duri pondered, not saying it outloud due to having suspected Colette of being June as well.
Combat situation examples:
X avoided Y's slash.
He then countered with an attack of his own.
"Nice try!" X yelled. Having easilly blocked Y's attack.
Yeah, it's got three lines. But frankly it's only one lines at best. Now here's a more decent one:
X slipped out of the way of Y's verticle slash, choosing to roll out of the way to gain the upper hand on the situation.
"Nice try!" X said, disappointed in Y's feeble attack. So now at his new vantage point, X decided to dig in close too Y and attempt to strike a flurry of strikes on them. Starting off with a rising slash, if that worked then X would could loose, having knocked Y off guard. If Y kept fighting like this then X would have an easy time defeating him!
I used the enter key once and it turned a normal 2 lined post into a three or four liner. Which is what I'd expect in a combat situation.
Rule two: Godmodding, also a big rule for me and the others in Gunmetal Mercenary Ville. We've all done it atleast once in our careers even me! C'mon lets all be honest here..
Well, except Lena. She's too new and smart to do any of that.
Anyway, Godmodding is basically taking control of someone else's character, but to me it can also be things such as making a character superior to another without any good reasoning. Most godmodding takes place on the battlefield, where many of you will be often.
So please people, have a decent reason on how your character is better than poor Jimmy over there. Also, be aware that character's develop over time. Especially when they're constantly in action, so what may have been a weakness in the past may not be as big weakness anymore.
Rule 3: Grammar, simple. Don't use words you have absolutely no idea what the meaning is, and becareful when spelling words you aren't so sure about. Punctuation and what not.
Rule 4: Naughty girls: Yes, not only do they need spankings, but they need to become invisible when they are too naughty. This can be a mature Rp at times.
Duriono slowly looks over at June, as if he's accusing her of being one of these so called 'Naughty girls'.
Anyway, if things get too intense between a pair of characters. Just skip over it, don't take it to Pms, that's against the TOS too...
Rule five: Mary Sues. No, Mary's last name isn't Sue. I mean that don't do something just for attention like randomly revealling a scar which forces everyone to turn their attention to it just for your so called drama story.. If your stealling the spotlight, have it be something interesting like your character starts speaking to someone else, the conversation turns fierce over time and they become outraged and start an uproar.
Rule six: RAAAAGE! Some characters have the Rage ability, and by that I mean the ability to tear the fabric of reality when they are angered. This is usually just to make something so scary that it's actually funny.
Duriono glares at the Paranormal Activity DVD his cousin bought him for his birthday. "That movie wasn't @#$#ing scary!" His eyes turned blood red and he began to spew fire all over the place, setting several objects aflame.
While this ability may sometimes get close to the godmod range, have something trigger it. Like in Mary's case, breaking her headphonees causes this reaction in her. So that event will be very rare, and also state that trigger in your Character's profile. Also, another user must cause the rage during actual combat. Also, just because your raging doesn't make you invincible, Mary can still get hurt when overly pissed off, it just becomes a little more difficult. Just because it gives you a little edge when the chips are down, don't think every single character out there needs to have rage.Don't always plan to win, losing is inevitable.
The good guys don't always win and the bad guys don't always lose.
Be modest, and don't complain when you're on the losing end of the battle.
