So what did we all think of The Fifth Element?

I rather enjoyed it. Four of my favourite actors in one marvelous film.

I liked it. It's not an eternal, timeless masterpiece that will live forever as a cinematographic work of art, but it was entertaining and worth the watching, though I'm not the best movie critic.
I have to say, though.... Ruby Rod might be one of the most annoying characters that I've run into for a long time. His voice was so unbelievably annoying and his hair nearly as much so. Sad to say that (and Mila Jovovitch's breasts) might be the things that stick with me most about the movie.

True but the storyline I found to be quite an interesting concept even though you have the irritants of Rudy's screeching I still find it to be most entertaining

True, it didn't ruin the whole movie, but the screams themselves were most unbearable.
It's funny, though. In lots of movies, either directly or indirectly, by design or by instance, a lot of movies seem to assume that in the future, everything will be much more like modern day Japan. This movie is no exception, in that they evidently assume that the idea of the super effeminate pop-star (or in this case, DJ) will be found (for mystifying reasons) irresistibly sexy to every woman he encounters will totally catch on.

Yeah but I think in this case it may have been a representation of the celebrity population at large that was combined into a single character

I have not seen this film since it originally came out in theatres back in 1997. I deliberately avoided watching it now, as it's a pastiche of nearly every sci-fi trope frequently seen in cinema. The art direction was good, as were the effects, considering when it was made, but the script certainly was lacking. I am hopeful that a more worthy film might be recognized next.
