Mister Banter
It's not done with your games but instead with Pokemon Online, an online battling simulator where you can make teams of 6 Pokemon, complete with EVs, movesets, and anything else within the boundaries of the games, and battle them against others.
The Team Builder is simple to use, and allows you to fine-tune any aspect of the Pokemon on your team for competitive battling.
This is NOT an RPG game like PokemonCrater or other sites. It's purely for battling and testing teams and strategies, without the drain of having to go through the breeding for better stats.
5th Generation has been included.
The Official Pokemon Guild of Gaia will be organizing and running tournaments through Pokemon Online once/twice or more every week. These tournaments will have prizes of Gaia Gold for first and second place, with raffles when appropriate. Tournaments will occur every Friday and Sunday of the month, unless otherwise stated.
Friday tournaments are a great fun for all, as they are free to play in yet still yield a prize to those who do well. They often have "funner" themes where player skill isn't involved as much as the element of "luck".

Currently, The Official Pokemon Guild of Gaia has a 24/7 server up and active. I would encourage you all to visit the server named "Gaia's TOPG Server", as the users who visit the server are likely to be all from Gaia. Who knows, you may meet a friend or two.
