Sonyo waved goodbye to Theo, his presence in the trip was short lived but pleasant all the same. Sonyo turned to Mononoke, clapping her hands together. "Alright! Well since Theo-san is gone now, could you please go wait at the gates? I'll have all the items transfered there when I buy them and then I can use Theo-san's seal to make it back to the village." Mononoke nodded, and then walked off, and sonyo got to work. She walked to the clerk and took out the letter from bast. "Hey there! I'm here on behalf of Bast-sama from Sunagakure. I need uh... 4 Gelel stones delivered to a female at the gates for holding, please." She handed over the ryo for the transaction. Once the men from the store set out, she grabbed her recipt of the transaction and was on her way to The Steel Thread.

Having left the Ryokan, with a suspicious feeling behind him, Wulfram would begin searching throughout the village and getting a few tips and variable reports of who to see about carpentry, eventually Wulfram was pointed to the shop known as Wood and Iron, a title that was only fitting. Entering into the shop, the Knight Errant looked at the wares that were lined around the walls of the shop. Puppets of various make and quality, designs made for war or for personal use, all mingled in together. Stopping he stood for a minute, mouth agape, as he saw the lifelike design upon some of them and had to hold himself back from commenting. Fear of insulting the owner, or finding out that they may have been actual people once, drove him to remain, for now silent.

After several minutes of his perusing and the silence as he enjoyed the simple working of the pieces, Hirio would eventually cross the threshhold of the room and place his hand upon the shoulder of the wanderer. Smirking as he did so, he would then make a gesture of his hand towards the puppet, and the others in the area that were obviously made of wood, the ones that Wulfram had been inspecting.

"Good man, you seem to seek inquiry regarding my fine crafstmanship. Perchance are you seeking to purchase one, or, pray-tell, are you seeking to learn how they are made? I saw you assisting Kaza over there in The Forge. Looking for work perhaps?"

Wulfram smirked as the man asked his questions, and he nodded when asked if he sought how they were made.

"Yes, yes. Well, it is more than that. You see, I recently purchased a building at the docks and it needs a fair bit of work. But, you see, I don't necessarily have the most in cash. So I thought I could work for some of the local shops and learn the trades. Buy some tools, some materials, and build up the rest of her myself. It's a general win-win deal, I figure. If I can learn from you, in turn make you some good equipment, I can apply what I know to bettering my lot, and save you or anyone else the time of working it out." The Knight Errant reasoned out as he turned his smirk into a full smile, and Hirio's smile faded.

"Fair enough, you want to learn from me, then I'll put you to work. See that desk over there, and those shelves? Go clean the desk, put the pieces of mechanisms in the corresponding shelves. Clear the dust off of the table, off of the cabinet, and off of the floor surrounding it. Then we'll talk about assistance in woodcrafting." Hirio said, his tone a little dark and dour at the moment.

Wulfram took the demeanor with a grain of salt, necessity was much more importance to him than nicety at the moment, and thus he set to work. Walking over to the table, despite the now shocked look from Hirio that someone might take to working despite such a dour reaction, and with careful hands began to lift and sort the individual pieces of the mechanics on the table. Looking to the shelves he noticed where the different types set into place and with a few moments would prepare to move them to such resting locations. Yet, he had been asked to dust off the shelves and the table as well. Grabbing a dusting cloth he would come across the tools on the table and the pieces he would be moving soon, wiping them down and then carrying them to the shelf where they would ultimately rest.
[ 1/2 ]

With the same cloth, albeit flung out into the air outside to remove the dirt and dust, he would return to the table. The table itself was easily wiped down, and the Knight even took the time to clean down the legs of the table as well, before returning to and dusting off the shelves. As it came to the floor, he would retrieve a broom and begin sweeping across the flooring and around the worker's podium as well. Opening the door to the streets outside, he would whisk the dust and debris out into the open air and the dirt upon the streets. Looking back to the man, he maintained his smile as he saw the man looking at him dumbfounded.

"Serving as a squire and then member of the Lammershagen City Guard, cleaning duties are far from beneath me. A man has to earn his own Keep in the world, after all. Squires and attendants alone cannot do all of your work for you." Wulfram said as his eyes met those of his horse, Cervantes, outside of the opened doors.
[ 2/2 Preparation Completed ]

Hirio would then look to the foreigner and his demeanor would soften somewhat. He assumed by the man's dress earlier that he was simply some rich man who sought to be given the basic instruction that he could say he was something great. This man, however, seemed to care about the ideas of a craft. Though his expression didn't turn loose, he would point to a pile of lumber at the far side of the room, then turn to Wulfram and speak.

"We're going to need twenty-four board-feet of wood, scratch that, make it two one by one by one foot cubes, for what I want to first propose. You see that device upon the table, the jig? Use that to measure out one board-foot per knot from those sections, or knots, of wood in the corner. Cut from one edge to the other, taking care to waste as little of the wood as possible." Hirio said with a grimace as he returned to the front of the store and grabbed a mechanism from his desk and returned with it to the table that Wulfram had been pointed to.

Crossing the room to grab the knots of wood, the Knight Errant sighed as he gathered the pieces and set one of them into the jig, looking to see just what it was that Hirio had returned with. Investigating it as he set the clamps on the sides of the jig to hold the knot, he loosened it after a moment of measuring the depth, moving it over so that there may be more slack left on the other side, perhaps to be used in future uses. Tightening the jaws once more on the knot, he would then begin to saw down with the guide presented. Cutting down the length until he had a measure of wood, one foot and a half long, one foot wide, and one foot deep. Looking up from the cut, he then adjusted the baring at the end, to cut off the extra half of a foot from the rear of the knot.
[ 1/4 ]

Brushing away the sawdust and arranging the cuts so that it was performed with the minimal amount of loss, Wulfram looked over the block he had finished. It was simple, it had a good grain structure, and it was clean. Taking the block from the jig he set it off to the side, brushing some of the excess saw dust off to the sides, then sweeping the material from the table into a small refuse bin kept beside the table. Grabbing the remant pieces, enough to make at least a good two to three board-feet from he set them beside the pile of wood in the corner.
[ 2/4 ]

Arranging the second knot into the jig he looked at the measurement of it, drawn out to fourteen inches in length and just over one foot at the curved points of the cut. So this particular piece would have remnants only worth using for making strips or small dowels. Once it was affixed in the jig, Wulfram would first make the cut to remove the two inches of extra length at the span of the piece. Once the two inch by fourteen inch ring was cut off of the end of the knot, he would remove it from the vise and toss it over to the working pile. Sighing as he affixed the standard length into the jig he would begin to saw down the measured lines, using the guides for support to keep it straight.
[ 3/4 ]

Clearing the debris from the second cube, Sir Armistead chuckled and set it off to the side with the other. From here he would begin to clean up the mess he had made, just as before, setting it into the refuse bin, then looking over to Hirio.

"That acceptable? By the way, we never did properly introduce. My name is Wulfram Armistead, a Knight by the Company." He said as his hand held out to the other's.
[ 4/4 Assistance completed ]

"Yes, yes. All good and well. Now here, try this. And folk call me Hirio." Hirio said as he took charge of one of the two cubes of lumber.

He would arrange a few tools on the table between them, at least two of each tool. In the arrangement there were two awls, a pair of planes, rasps, polishing cloths, and a set of shavers. Pushing, first, a shaver towards Wulfram, Hirio would speak about their intention. Pointing towards a doll that hung from the wall he pointed out it's head first.

"We'll be making heads for two more of those. They are called Akagahara, they're one of the lower model puppets I sell in this shop. I won't give you the information on what mechanisms they have, but I'll teach you the basics of woodworking through designing their heads. I have two on a rush order, so you are doing me a great service by doing this." The man spoke as he began to shave down the corners of the block's top side, slowly working them down into a polyhedral shape.

Wulfram followed the example set, but with a slight change, instead of attacking the angles directly, he shifted to the file and filed the edge down as he would have in working on a blade, before then attacking the now flat corners with the shaper. Moving the tool carefully in hand, he would make several short passes, keeping time with Hirio, working one corner behind him at a time. Eventually both blocks would have a multi-faceted top, and Hirio would hand him a file as he took one himself.

"Good instinct on using the file to work down the corners of the piece. Can save your hands and a bit of time that way." The shopkeep said as he looked into the Knight's eyes. "Now, as you did to the corners before, we're going to do here, to round the heads of the Akagahara."
[ 1/5 ]

Several minutes spent addressing the newly created rough edges and winding them down to a smooth rounded series of edges, until no 'faces' existed, but one who surface was presented, Wulfram would nod and look to see what the next step was, from his instructor. Hirio, at the other end of the table, had begun using the shaver to lower out a section of the face, making stark contrast between the 'forehead' and the jawline of the object. Wulfram investigates a minute and grabbed himself one of the shavers and began to perform the same process.
[ 2/5 ]

Deep, long, intense strokes of the shaver would begin to hollow out the lower section of the face, leaving a central ridge in the center of the face, the nose. Adding a bit more of a rounded feature to his he would loosen up the pressure around where a man's cheekbones would be and reapply just beneath, giving his version a slightly more human appearance, although even that was an abstract. As he cleared to the same process as Hirio, he would see the man looking over to his work, and then holding out a scribing tool, a marker for the wood.

"Here, you're going to need this, we'll be carving and filing some lines into the head, to differentiate one from another. Choose a pattern you like, but don't copy mine or the other one on the wall. Also go on ahead and mark out a section for the eyes. We'll have to awl them out after we set these lines into place." The instructor commanded.
[ 3/5 ]

Doing as he was asked was quite simple, but he took the route in reverse, first marking out the eyes for the doll. Following this he would run lines into the wood that went from chin to eyes. At the 'chin' the lines were an inch apart, at the eyes, they ran to the corners. Then from this edge he drug the lines to continue on around to the back, where they culminated in a swirling pattern around, before joining each other. Grabbing the thinnest of the files, he would then set to work excavating the lines from the rest of the face.
[ 4/5 ]

"Is every piece of woodworking so grand, as to design something so ornate?" Wulfram would ask, absentmindedly, just trying to have something to discuss on common grounds.

"Yes. And no. Every application of wood can have it's own beauty, but many subdue the wood, they just use it as a filler and construction agent. Like that stone and wood building at the end of the docks. Part of it caught fire last summer, which exposed just how much of the whole was composed of it, and what I saw coming into town the days to follow, was that it was, inordinately plain." Hirio replied, not knowing that it was the exact shop that Wulfram had just purchased the deed and licensing to.

Digging into the 'eye socket' with the awl, Wulfram thought of what the man said. Connectingt he points of the man's discussion with his recently purchased shop he sighed and set his tool down as he carved out the second eye slot. He nodded and looked over to the man.

"Yes, I noted such when I traveled inside for the first time. Perhaps I'll change that with the knowledge you're sharing with me here." Wulfram finished as he then grabbed a set of polishing cloths and began to smooth out the head they had just finished.

"Oh, I meant no offense. I didn't assume that was the building you had purchased in your steading. But with a man as dedicated as oneself running such an establishment, perhaps we'll see good things come of it?" Hirio responded, looking over the work Wulfram had finished.

"I'd show you some of the more intricate details beneath the hood of these puppets, but I doubt you have much interest in that aspect of them? Perhaps another time I can teach you more about them. But, for your efforts today, I have some coin, and perhaps a tool that will treat you well, come the future. Here, a set of Fine Saws, with the amount of repair and construction your shop will need, I am sure this will come in handy." Hirio finished, shaking the man's hand as he began to gather his things.

"I would gladly come back to help, any time you need such assistance." The Knight Errant responded, shaking the man's hand in return before collecting the last of the items and his new saw.

Now that I have some free time, I decided to browse the shops. I had stopped by the weapon shop but found nothing that fit my fancy, until I reached the shop for the puppet supplies. I don’t know why I entered, but since I was low on supplies, I decided to go in. I browsed the shop, and on the very back there was a rack with a bunch of small blue stones, as well as a book. I grabbed on to the book and a bunch of stones, six stones to be exact, and then went to pay at the front of the store. After that, I decided it was time to go back to the barracks and work with them.

Zin entered the puppet place with confidence in his work. Placing the work slip to the femme, he sighed a bit in taking note that by having her create it for him, it would take an entire twenty-four hour span before his puppet is built. Thinking of making the best of this trip, Zin hiss to again to Nagi, thinking about venturing around this place and see what this place had to offer. Or better yet, complete his training in totality with Nagi, so that they may start earning some income to put into their coffiers.

Zin had thought about going to the Dojo for training, but literally halfway out the doo did the youth get drawn towards the succulent smell of fresh gummi treats being processed. Much to the discomfort of the cooks, the serpent child watched with bated breath to those yummy treats being processed. It was only when Nagi, acting almost like a timer, poked Zin's hip with his snout did the cooks find reprieve from those serpentine like eyes as he remembered it was time for him to go and retrieve his puppet! He couldn't wait to begin utilizing it!

Returning back to the shop, Zin spotted the scroll that would have his puppet within it. Stashing the first step towards becoming something powerful within his robes, he gave a little hiss to Nagi for them to start making their trek back home. It was time to begin putting all of their hard work through proper tests!

__ Tetsuhiko entered Wood and Iron, the famous puppet shop of Takumi. This was his first visit, but it certainly would not be his last. He observed their many wares and smiled at the shopkeep. The merchandise was of high quality, but he found the selection rather lacking compared to that of the shop at the Sunagakure Superdome. "I pity any puppeteer who does not live in Suna and has to come here." He thought to himself as he walked through and shop glancing at the shelves. Tetsuhiko reminisced about working on puppets in his grandpa's workshop when he was younger, around five or six. He was only eight years old when he designed his first puppet, Artemisia, which was designed in his mother's likeness.

He was enjoying the tragic euphoria of nostalgia that the smell of a puppet shop brought him as he continued to browse. He felt relieved that his puppets were now battle ready with all of their required ammunition so he did not need to buy any. What he was in the market for was a few new projectile launcher mechanisms for easy, yet effective, upgrading. When he could not find the launchers he asked the shopkeep if they had any puppet attachments in stock and the answer was in the negative he walked out of the shop. Now he really wanted to return home to Sunagakure to finish his work.

__ Ada was glad that the trip still allowed her plenty of time to work when she arrived to Wood and Iron. The shopkeeper was courteous and quite helpful from the moment she entered the workshop. After showing the letter of invitation Ada received permission to use available materials for her puppets' unique designs. Thanks to her magnetic abilities, it took far less time to prepare and construct the puppet. Although she was assured that the service was free, Ada promised that the Rio family would repay the debt someday. With an adieu bid to the shopkeeper, Ada left again to wait for the twins back at the gates as they agreed.

With a fifteen year old girl with no sense of direction leading the way, their path to a final destination was a long and winding one. But never the less, Miyuki enjoyed herself--for the most part. A small flare of frustration and anxiety from the expectations on her behalf was creeping up on her, although she hid it well. Especially after she realized she had no ryo when they passed a dango stand with a variety of colorful seasonals she'd never tried before. Or at least she couldn't remember trying. She had honestly eyed the place looking for a chance to swipe some of the sweet dumpings, but none came, as the streets were too busy. Other than a brief pause to look around, and a scowl, none of this was relayed to the little girl Luna who trailed behind Miyuki.

It wasn't like she was actually hungry anyway. She couldn't remember the last time she'd been hungry, actually. So it was more like a craving. Though the question did cross her mind of how she got to Takumi without any spare change. And how she was going to get back to Kirigakure.

Away from the food, it was quickly forgotten, and she picked up her pace once more slightly, checking every now and then to make sure Luna was still with her, and that she hadn't outpaced the smaller girl. After a brief traipse through the residential district--around the time she realized they were going the wrong direction--the way to the crafting and shopping district was finally found. The next problem was finding a place that had--no, made--masks. So looking for a place that had masks. Or woodworking. At least, Miyuki assumed Luna was going to make them from wood? She hadn't exactly asked. Pausing once more abruptly in the middle of the street, she looked fully back at Luna for the first time since their journey began. "Does anywhere here look helpful to you? I'm not sure what you're looking for." Of course, a seemed to be the norm for her, the moment she said it, she was distracted by one of the nearby shops. Mostly because there was wood involved in the display. And that wood had faces. The sign announced 'Wood and Iron :: Puppet Supplies'. She pointed to the shop entrance. "Puppets have faces, right? Maybe that could help?"

Luna had no idea what was going on, but she was very keen on the layout of the streets and where she and Miyuki passed through. By her count, she was sure they had crossed the same intersection maybe five times, and that was just the spot that they happened to cross over again the most. At least, though, they only passed by the entrance to the shopping and crafting district twice before finally deciding to enter it. Luna had kept her mouth shut about the previous two times because she didn't know what Miyuki was trying to do or go to exactly. She had sort of trusted the older girl to know what was going on, for better or for worse.

When Miyuki finally said something to her, Luna was about to answer. She had her finger pointed out and everything, but Miyuki just went at her own pace again. Without Luna's answer, Miyuki came to her own. Luna's mouth slowly closed and her hand drooped. The puppet place, it wasn't a bad choice to start at. She just felt a little sad that Miyuki was so quick to diismiss her before she even answered. Although, there wasn't even a trace of pout or other childish display of disappointment on the inexpressive child's face. Her hand just clenched a little harder at Miyuki's cloak, which she had been holding this entire time to make sure she didn't get lost.

"Yes, that could help," Luna spoke in the quiet monotone that was her normal voice. Despite her agreement, though, she fidgeted.
She wasn't protesting about not being heard out. The other idea she had wasn't any better than Miyuki's. No, right now, she was just nervous. She didn't know if she would just be allowed to work at the store, little girl that she was. She didn't even know how to go about asking. However, trying to be a mature, big girl, Luna kept these worries and questions to herself and just fidgeted with downcast eyes.

Although, when Luna thought of Miyuki leaving her now that a mask creating-ish place had been found, the already tight grip on Miyuki's cape became even tighter. The fear of being left alone gave Luna the courage to ask, "But what about you, Miyuki? Don't you need to find your way to the... the docks, was it?". The small child looked up earnestly to the older child. She did want to help, even if she had only found the courage to ask because of her own selfish desires.

Miyuki placed her fist against the palm of her other hand at Luna's words, recalling her original intentions. "Right, the docks. That's where I was going." She paused though, for once not immediately taking off a different direction, and looked back at Luna. She'd neglected to really pay attention to the girl. It had been one of those moments where her legs and mouth just kind of moved on their own, and she hadn't let the younger girl get a word in edgewise on the way there, when Luna had been the one trying to find the location in the first place. Miyuki started picking nervously at her fingers, suddenly at a lose of what to say. Although Luna's face didn't reflect the emotion behind her words, Miyuki did catch the girl's fidgeting and her hands tighten on her cloak. She felt guilty, and wanted to express that she cared for the younger girl's well being.

Suddenly she smiled broadly again, figuring out her next course of action, as it were. "Well, I can either stay here for a little while, or you can help me find the docks!" She placed her hands on her hips, and her grin turned sheepish. "Though I'd hate to drag you around the city again." She looked back at the entrance to the shop. "It's up to you. Sorry for being so pushy."

User ImageLuna didn't mean to be rude, but she couldn't help but think, . However, that didn't make her feel any less grateful. "Since I know where this is now," Luna explained, her eyes shining with happiness even if her face didn't follow suit, "I'll be able to find my way back, and for the docks, I think I know what direction they might be." She had seen, among all of the other whizzing scenery now loosely mapped into her head, clues as to where the docks would be in relation to everything. Surely, since they were so lost at first, this time it will be much easier.

Heart feeling light in response to Miyuki's smile, Luna grabbed Miyuki by the hand and started to lead her. In her excitement at not having to be separated from Miyuki and being able to be of some help, the child had completely forgotten that she will need to face the strangers in the puppet store alone if she was going to help Miyuki now. That was okay, though. Even if Luna had remembered, it would have just brought needless worry about asking too much of someone else. "This way," Luna guided as she walked back into the bustling streets and into the direction she thought the docks mostly likely lay in.

Then suddenly, the little girl stopped. "Ah, that's right. Miyuki-unni," she naturally slipped the suffix onto the end of the name. The next part, however, wasn't so easy to say. Luna hesitated, nibbling the side edge of her right index finger as her eyes seemed to scan the ground, their movements caused by hurried and hard thinking. Her stutter returned with her hesitation, "M-Miyuki unni. The ships will probably need money or work for you to board them. Will... will you... Do you think you will be o-okay?". It was such a disrespectful question, but Luna was asking because she really cared for Miyuki. Yes, she cared, bonding with her with the trademark speed of a lonely child. Not too long ago, Luna had felt the pain of not having any money, quite literally. Hunger pains, to be exact, so it was a problem that immediately came up in her mental list of things that could go wrong. Still, as much as Luna meant well with the question, she could not bring her eyes up from the ground even the smallest bit. She wa just that embarrassed and scared.

Evidently, the apology was accepted, and this made Miyuki smile again. Her grin widened further as Luna took the initiative in taking off through the city to find the docks. To be fair, it seemed that the girl had a much better sense of direction than Miyuki did, so she certainly wasn't complaining. In fact, it had probably been a terrible idea for her to lead to begin with. She'd just been in such a hurry to help this lost little girl who had spent more than about five seconds dealing with her that she'd lost focus, and led her in a wild goose chase instead.

However, the second Luna grabbed her hand she recoiled, pulling it away with a nervous laugh. Although she hadn't freaked out when people bumped into her before, this was a direct and deliberate touch, and that was a 'no' in her mind, even if she didn't know why. Her reaction had been similar after waking up in the hospital in Kirigakure, but she was feral then and had attacked. None of that hostility came with the fear now. Likewise, Luna grabbing her cloak hadn't been a problem because that wasn't physical contact. "Ahaha... uh, sorry. Lead the way. I won't get lost, I promise." Whether or not Luna believed her was a different story altogether, but Miyuki followed after the girl regardless.

They didn't get very far before stopping again, Luna seemingly remembering something. Miyuki's attention perked up when the girl added '-unni' to the end of her name, which was a suffix she didn't recognize. She waited patiently while Luna struggled with a sudden anxiety and worked through it. The younger girl was concerned whether or not Miyuki had enough money to get back. To be honest, she was fairly certain she had exactly zero ryo on her, and still had no idea how she'd managed to pay or find her way to Takumi, given Mizu no Kuni wasn't connected to the mainland. Miyuki placed her hands on her hips thoughtfully, her head tipping slightly to the side. "Yeah I'd thought of that..." she muttered with a small grimace. But then she clapped her hands together to diffuse the awkward moment. "Don't worry about it. I'll figure something out." She gave Luna a confident smile even though she had no idea what she was going to do. "If all else fails, I can just find a long way home, or maybe find someone from my village and mooch of of them." Another nervous laugh. She didn't like the idea of owing someone, given that one person she owed her life to was now dead, and she could never pay him back for it. Other than maybe by never going feral again, but that wasn't exactly something she could control.

User Image Luna was crushed to learn that reaching for Miyuki's hand had been the wrong choice. At least, that was how she interpreted it. She, Luna, had done a bad. Quietly, the child nodded, muttering an almost indistinct, "Sorry," shame hiding her voice.

That was yet another reason why she sounded so hesitant and down when she stopped to ask Miyuki about what to do at the docks.

Miyuki's answer, however, was so optimistic. It just felt natural for Luna to be dragged in. Her head lifted up shyly, still hurt about her hand being refused, and she nodded. Agreeing in a soft voice with what would have been a soft smile on a normal person's face but wasn't large enough to be noticed on Luna's stiff expresions, "Right. There's always a way," Luna turned around and continued down the streets. Every now and then, Luna would pause to make sure Miyuki was still behind her. Since Miyuki didn't want to hold her hands, Luna was ready to work twice as hard to make sure she helped the older girl as much as possible.
