Walks-Between, aka Walks no dream yet | kindexwannabe | womanizer | vulnerable Hello, laaaaaadies. Walks fancies himself a ladies' man. This is not strictly true. Although he is charming, it is due to his utter incompetence and puffy ego. Cultivating an aura of mystery and intrigue, Walks is about as deep as a puddle. Don't let him fool you--not that he's likely to. Despite everything, he's good-hearted, and would never intentionally hurt anyone's feelings--especially a doe's--despite his lame attempts to project a bad boy aura. With Mirebeat, he is one of the few Kimeti in the swamp who hold the secret of fermentation, and their turtleshells and rock pools full of alcoholic fruit are a hit at festivals.___________________________________________________________ Familiars and Pets
Acquired as a means of picking up ladies, Foxbun is more precious to his owner than Walks would like to admit.

Cicadasong, aka Chirp no dream yet | kindexflirtatious | hedonistic | maternal A slinky-stepped, lash-batting doe with an eye for the ladies and a silver tongue. Flirtatious in a slightly predatory fashion, Chirp navigates life in a sinuous sort of way. She is deeply sensual, enjoying the finer things: fine food, fine women, and round, mouth-filling curses not at all suitable for polite company. She has a weak spot, however, for anything adorable and cute--and especially for foals, which reduce her to a useless and quivering heap.

Falling Birdnaming dream | kindexliar | free spirit | actor A consummate storyteller, the manic pixie Falling Bird is always projecting a character. It is difficult to say who she is under all those personae--to her, the story comes first, and everything is the story. For the most part she is ferociously childish, given to bouts of mood swings, and is something of a bohemian--unpredictable, nomadic, and dreamlike. She puts little value on the truth and would rather hear a good tale than an accurate one--and returns the favour. Never believe her.

Bitterleaf, aka The Matriarch naming dream | kindexstoic | strong | charismatic Bitterleaf is one of the few Kimeti in the swamp who can lay claim to having a well-known name. This happened by accident--having spent most of her young adulthood leaving a trail of either broken or strengthened colts (and a few fillies) behind her--her "children" who suffered her tough love and were either made hard or destroyed thereby--she turned her attentions as her favourite son grew up at her side to bringing together more like herself. Fiercely charismatic, she sought out tough, no-nonsense Kimeti to bring them to the Southern shore--a hard place that took no mercy on those would try to live there. With these Tidewalkers she tries to make Kimeti into things better than themselves--and her story has spread, particularly since she awakened into a Mare.
Lately, the Matriarch begins to feel her age--although she is not old by Kimeti standards, her many descendants and the cares on her mind have worn her down, as has her difficult life. She has begun grooming her favored daughter, Waterside, as her replacement. In the meantime she continues to grow daily more cantankerous, and feels the Tidewalkers slipping from her iron grasp as they become larger and the beach more tame.___________________________________________________________ Familiars and Pets
Her mongoose is old now, and spends most of his time curled around Bitterleaf's neck, soaking up what heat he can. He is probably not long for the world--she has had him since she was a very young doe, and he has spent many more years catching snakes and fish alongside her than most pets can claim.
Angry, bitey thing that a badger is, more than one person has been inclined to view Bitterleaf's decision to take on Spit as another way to make the lives of those around her a little harder. For herself, she's remarkably good at pretending that the badger, doggedly loyal though she is, isn't following her every move.

Saltcynical | biting | unreadableIf Salt were a person in our world she would smoke clove cigarettes between bright red lips and she would drawl snarkily. Her bohemian side takes after her mother, Falling Bird; the slinky, sarcastic side might possibly have come down to her from Mirebeat and Cicadasong. It is difficult to rattle Salt and even harder to read her emotions--if any are there besides dull amusement at your expense. Not a bad sort, but not a good one, either.

Jasperhard | quiet | obedientBitterleaf's sturdy, stoic son, Jasper is a mystery. Not because he is a man of depths--he isn't--but because he is a man of silence. He says little and prefers actions to words, and all of his actions are dictated by his mother. His introversion, combined with his massive, draft-horse frame make him an interesting target for a certain type of girl. They'll surely be disappointed by the thoroughly-dominated, one-dimensional buck beneath.
Maybe.

Swancharming | dignified | compassionateOh, Swan. Silly Swan! Charming Swan! Where Walks fails as a ladies' man Swan succeeds with seeming effortlessness. He is the archetype of the Southern gentleman, the finger-kissing dapper dan, the chivalrous knight. He is obsessed with dignity and also with women (and the occasional dalliance more... err... close to home) and despite his polyamorous tendencies is passionately devoted to his doe, Lead-Along. As a Legendary he is privy to many visitors and has a circle of followers and well-wishers, and is always ready to dispense with a blessing or a word of comfort. It's easy to fake an exterior of noble sympathy--but with Swan, nothing is faked but the elegance. Sincerity motivates him and empathy moves him. Too bad about the self-consciousness, though. When he forgets to be concerned with appearances he can be a witty and enjoyable companion. Until that point, his affectedness sometimes surfaces, an ugly spot on an honest personality.

Carrot Flowerunlucky | good natured | reliableIs there anyone more unfortunate than Carrot Flower? Surely few are better-natured about their fates than the luckless buck, who constantly seems to be sustaining freak injury, reaching a clearing just as the rain starts, and generally failing at fortune. With weary resignation he accepts every new stumbling block, meeting it with a dry humor. As a courier he has a sharp, nearly-photographic memory (not the best gift to a buck with plenty to forget), and despite his fragile frame he is among the fleetest Kimeti in Matope, with a reputation for reliability. Few are more acquainted with every nook and cranny of the swamp and more able to navigate it effectively. For all his wit and good humor, Carrot Flower is a bit of glum company, and finds it difficult to attach himself to others or make close friends.

Slenderchivalrous | lonely | alienSlender is aware that he is different. His world is one of light and shadow dimly-perceived through his skin-veiled eyes, and when he moves he moves like the stretched shadow of a spider at dawn. His ability to fade into the background is uncanny--he becomes at will a bit of branch, a spread of mangrove roots--and he uses his powers, as far as he is able, for good. A foal trembling in his shadow is like to find that Slender steps out, not to attack, but to protect--a silent sentinel with keen ears tuned for danger. He is a friend to everyone who meets, even those that would shun him for his eerie appearance--and he longs, more than anything, for a companion that would embrace his lonely and chivalrous lifestyle.

Catchmanipulative | vain | shallowCatch has about as much to her as a mote. Spending much of her time arranging herself in attractive poses in a shaft of sunlight, the admittedly-beautiful doe has cultivated admirable patience as she waits for someone to come along and voice their admiration. For all her wanton flirtatiousness and attention-seeking, for all her one-dimensional wit and cultivated laughs and affected mannerisms, Catch is pure as the new snow, and woe to the buck who attempts to hang on to her long enough to keep her--there's nothing behind that beautiful facade but a skill for manipulation and a petulant sense of self-entitlement.

One Eye Openaka Eye, Nervesnervous | mistrustful | inconsiderateOne Eye Open is, as his name suggests, chronically paranoid and mistrustful. It is difficult if not impossible to gain his confidence, and his cynicism is enough to drive the most patient to weariness. You'd think a person so afraid of others' betrayals would keep to himself, but instead One Eye Open feels the need to fritter and fret aloud to anyone who gives him time. Understandably, the worrywart has few friends.

Bare Teethaka Teethsavage | honest | pragmaticBare Teeth has no time for your trifles. Don't take it personally. He doesn't have time for anyone's trifles. Bare Teeth thinks it's ridiculous to be vain about strength or looks or smarts, as none of these things were earned. He thinks being vain about anything is ridiculous, actually, because what should it matter to you what others think? The lot of an animal is to fight, sleep, eat, prey, run: this is Bare Teeth's life. Simple and wild and honest. For all that he is a remarkably loyal friend and never forgets a debt--but is in turn a difficult debtor. Your abilities matter nothing to him, but your willingness matters everything. It is better to die striving than to live indulgently.

White Lieaka Sweetieinnocent | sweet | outgoingThis fairy-like doe is forgetful, wistful, and a consumate lover of beautiful things and of people. Her intense desire to befriend anyone and everyone serves her well at times, and at other times she becomes a victim of her own naivete--which, nonetheless, never instills in her even the slightest bit of cynicism. Devoted, outgoing, and tooth-achingly sweet, White Lie is a good friend, but could wear on the patience of someone not smitten with her good nature.

Scrying Stoneaka Stonecryptic | delusional | wiseIntroverted, withdrawn, perhaps slightly insane: Scrying Stone exists in the twilight world between dream and reality. He constantly seeks prophecy in bones, in mud swirling in a clear pool, in the fall of leaves. Whether he sees anything is a question for debate, but there is certainly something suggestive in those far-away eyes and in the riddle-like nothings that fall occasionally from his quiet lips. Certainly his talent for perceiving and summing up the character of his acquaintances is considerable.
