Personally I really don't think the books would be the same without his artwork. Anyone else a really big fan? You can find more on him here (site's temporarily not working, will be soon) and here.

My sister who goes to art school recently got to meet him which was pretty cool, wish I could have. He's the author of a couple books and has illustrated other series besides ASOUE. Anywho, discuss appreciation for him and his involvement with the books here. 3nodding

I love the art in the books. It gives them kind of a surreal feel.

Yeah, it's a unique style but it fits the books perfectly.

I do enjoy his drawing style, I think it fits the books well.

I love his art! Brett graduated from my highschool a few years before me (Orem High School, UT) and think he is ridiculously talented.

In the Russian version of ASoUE, the art is done by a completely different person, and I have to say that I do like the Sunny drawn by the Russian artist more than I like the Sunny drawn by Brett.

Other than that, however, Brett rocks.

Could you post a link to the Russian Sunny? Just curious. 3nodding

But, yes, Brett does rock.

That's pretty neat, if you find any old peices of his artwork he left there you should sell it on Ebay. 3nodding

It looks like he's going to have his own website at http://www.bretthelquist.com/ There doesn't seem to be anything there yet, but I'm sure there'll be soon. He's no longer represented by Shannon Associates, so he doesn't have his portfolio up there anymore, which leads me to believe (like I've already said) that we can expect the new page to be up and running shortly. 'Course I could be wrong, but it makes sense.
