 The evening air was thick with the prospects of spring. Cicadas buzzed and sang their nightly repertoire, and the frogs joined in, calling forth the spring one song at a time. A mare lay in a clearing, her head laying softly upon the damp ground, listening to the chorus. Fireflies danced like earthbound stars around her glowing frame, for Aurora was indeed aglow with color. Since birth, a strange glow seemed to emanate from within her. Her wings, horn, her very scales glowed with prismatic colors, shifting like a liquid rainbow about her, pulsing like a heartbeat. The mare let out a sigh, and stood, her long hair flowing about her. She was calm, serenely enjoying the night, even though danger lurked in every shadow. Her adoptive father had taught her not to fear it though, and she had embraced his teachings. As she stood, a firefly buzzed against her nose, and she let out a soft bell-like laugh as she proceeded to chase the ball of light about the clearing like a young foal would, her wings outstretched lazily.

 It was night time, cool air ruffled the leaves of the forest and nightbirds sang sweet melodies, but within the beauty and the magic of the night, there was darkness. There was always darkness, wherever there was light, there would always be shadow, and on that same note, there would always be something around...like Chemosh. Chemosh was enjoying the night, oh even if he was what most considered "evil" he could enjoy the little things as well, nights like this brought out the best in him, and the beast. He caught a fresh bit of rabbit very easily, his venom killing it in seconds, as he chewed upon the tasty bit of meat he walked around, admiring the trails of lights above, fireflies... He went to go follow the small bugs, to see where they would lead him, preferably somewhere curious when suddenly, he heard it, a very clear bell like laughter coming from the other direction. He swiveled his neck, his eyes bright white in the darkness..."Helllooooooo~~~" he singsonged ominously~ " looksss like bugssss can wait..." The voice, no matter how far away...had been female... the night was looking up.

The spark of rainbow in the dark that was Aurora flitted about, lifting off briefly from the ground with her bright wings as she strove to catch the little balls of light. She was agreeably an odd sight, looking like a giant neon bird. She swept around, without a care in the world, the light of the world seeming to shine within her, barely penetrating the darkness surrounding her, enveloping the trees, making it seem like this small meadow was the only thing that existed. She was young, barely beyond her foalhood, sweetly innocent and unknowing of the demons that lurked so close.
A whisper of sound caused her to pause in her merriment, and she stood very still, her wings folding close to her body. Her head turned slowly, looking about her in wonder at the encroaching shadows. She felt a bit nervous to not know what was out there. The noise occurred once more, and the hooting screech of an owl split the silence as it took wing from a close-by tree. Aurora breathed a sigh, "Gods don't frighten me like that! Silly owl..."

The owl in question did not last very long, the sound had startled Chemosh as well, as he stalked through the darkness towards the feminine voice. With a snap the owl was silenced in a mess of blood and feathers, he did not wait for it to die, he simply dropped it and licked the blood from his maw, nature would take care of the rest.
He was on a mission.
He slithered through trees and under overhanging moss until he came to a mound just ahead of the voice he was hearing, he slowly peered over, knowing not much could see him in the darkness anyway. His eyes widened quite a bit...a rainbow was standing there, there before him. He blinked owlishly and then narrowed his pearly orbs into dangerous slits, that was impossible! he reasoned with himself, and looked harder. And sure enough, it WAS a female, but unlike any he had ever witnessed, a living rainbow mixed with black, and it appeared to be a very flashy kirin.
He licked his lips of the remnants of the owl's blood and inspected his "prey" how interesting, he had had very little contact with kirin and he did not know much about them, so he decided to be cautious with this one, no matter how bright she was.
He hissed, softly.
