How do you all practice? Is it a routine? Do you read, or just jam? Sometimes all I want to do is stick in a disc and play along. Sometimes improvising. I guess it's different if you're in a band then you practice material. I'm not right now so I just wing it once a day or so, but sometimes I wonder if I'm getting the most out of the time spent. Sometimes I play whatever comes to me. Sometimes in the dark.
I need a band. I have no discipline. It sure is fun to play in the dark though. biggrin

Practice, eh? Foreign(sp) word.. My routine is whenever possible (not much) when it comes to piano, the night before I have a playing test or concert on clarinet, and whenever mom threatens to sell my trumpet is how that instrument gets played. I hate not having time to practice though. I should be at an hour a day at least for piano and it usually maybe 20 minutes before I go to bed sad eek

Structure? I sit at my kit and just play to warm up. Then maybe I'll play along with the radio or cds.

Once I have that info, I can probably structure something out for you.

Jazz fusion, Old progressive rock, funk of any age, but I want to learn jazz jazz, Freddie gruber jazz, Philly Joe Jones... I'm undiciplined, paraddidles bore me, and rudiments can be even worse. I think I have ADHD. The other day I practiced to Joss Stone, Sting, Duke Ellington, the Roots, and Iron Maiden all in the same 45 minute period.

Well... since I'm probably the youngest one in this thread replying, I might be the only one that says she practices her school music. ^^; Most times I'll sit down with my clarinet, do my major scales, then do the Dorian, Lydian, Mixolydian, etc, of those scales, then chromatic, and so on until I'm warmed up. Then I play some easy songs like "Samantha" or "Cry Me a River," before I head onto the hard stuff. Hard being our Latin piece, "Sambandrea Swing." eek After all that, I do the dorky thing of playing a song I like and trying to figure out the melody. I've figured out a lot of songs. ^^;
But most times, I don't have time to practice due to all my honors classes. So in reality.... my rehersals are my practices. neutral

Scales... scream The warm up is the most detested part of any rehearsal..."ok guys...F concert, up and down dotted quarter eighth..." ARGH.

longtones longtones longtones... scales scales scales
I dont really need to practice the charts we have right now since we have em down pretty well.
I like to go through my aebersolds to get a feel for reading and playing changes.
For reading i'd go through my jazz etude books like the Bob Mintzer ones i have.
