So, it's the middle of January--what goals are you setting for this year?

I think the best goals are ones you can control, at least to some extent. So, completing a novel, writing a short story per month, etc.

My goals for this year:

  • Finish any remaining revisions on my completed YA novel so it can go out.
  • Finish the MG that my husband and I shelved at 30k words last year.
  • Finish the new MG I started last month.
  • Work with my husband to complete his YA horror.

If I can do all of that by the end of the year, I'll be satisfied with my progress.

Of course, there are some things I don't have as much control over. Namely:

  • Get a book deal in 2011. whee

So, my list goals I can control, and my wish for 2011. You?

Goals:

-Finish the two fanfics I am working on
-Get some of the ideas I have for some original stories written down in notes, and if doable, started.

Wishes:

-Finish a book by the end of the year.

Sadly, I have not added any "writing goals" to my general list for 2011. However, if I have to add one, it would be to finish 'The Chair'. It is the only one that I am working one currently and with my new schedule, it should be doable. *puts in time for this*

Thanks!

Writing Goals for 2011:
-Start writing the 1st book in the series that I'm currently working on (we started on book 3).
Excitingly enough, I actually did start writing this last week! I'm mainly in the outline stage but I've been working out kinks that I never got around to figuring out, and I actually have a few sections written now.

-Convince my friend to continue working on a story that we planned out last year but never really got off the ground.
I'm still in love with the storyline, but I can't seem to write much on my own for this one yet. I do know that she still thinks about it, so...here's hoping.

Wishful thinking:
-Finish the current draft of the novel my co-writer and I have been working on since 2003.
Haha, yeah right. Maybe if this was 'writing goals for 2021.

Slightly-less-than-wishful thinking:
-Make it to page 300 of said novel.
I say slightly because we're at page 208, and it technically took us less than a year to get the last 100 pages done. So here goes nothing! =)

Neat! How far are you from finishing?

Good luck with your goals (and your wishes!)

It can be hard to carve out the time--and motivation--for everything you want to do.

@Racheling: I have a little more than half to do. Ace has been begging me to continue her story. How am I supposed to disagree with a woman so...forceful? sweatdrop

FYI: Ace is the main character of 'The Chair'. whee

Goal numero 1: Get a story finished. I don't care what, but I want to prove to myself that I have the skill and perseverance to get past the first three chapters...

Goal numero 2: Not get distracted so much from writing... I write in spurts because of my extremely short attention span while I'm working on something I'd rather not do. (Ex: Really boring, but important scenes. I'm not saying that I hate writing! DX)

@Racheling: I know, right? The only problem that I am having is imagining her as a child for the flashback chapters. It is something to do when you have to wrestle who she is now with a bit of supposed "childlike wonder". Oh yeah, I have put aside Fridays as my days for writing so that is what I am doing today.

I would just like to say that I didn't complete this goal (or, well, any of my goals, really), but we did make it to page 265! And I, for one, am quite pleased about this fact.

I think for 2012 my writing goals are as follows:
-Get to page 310 of said novel
I lower my page-count goal if only because this year I'll be graduating college and getting a full-time job (I hope), so I don't anticipate having as much time to write.

-Write more of the 1st book in the series.
I don't care how far I get, I just want to make even the slightest bit of progress. Even if it's just planning.
