I do parties and classes with my animals, including my gliders. I would really like ********* to learn to fly from a volunteer, or a pedestal the volunteer holds, to me on command. I am doing this through clicker training. He is doing pretty good, but it is slow work.

Has anyone else trained their glider to do anything?

when i had my sugies it was easy to train them to do bakflips without me doing anything.. i took a piece of mango and led one of them around the cage and the next thing i knew she was flipping all over the place... it was funny to watch, it sometimes made her dizzy though...

Kieana, back flips are actually a sign of stress in sugar gliders, especially lone gliders. Here are some links with more about it:

Doing consecutive back flips is a sign of SERIOUS mental distress and sometimes even mental illness so I would recommend checking out your glider's living conditions - size of cage, having a buddy, proper diet, etc. Not to rain on your parade, but that is just a very worrisome thing! cry

she only did it for a few days after i got her, and when the lady who bred them brought her in... she didnt do it much at all after that.. so i guess you could be rite and she was stressed out from the move?

Since ********* passing, I haven't really done any clicker training with the gliders. The thing is, he was REALLY the only one who showed any eagerness to learn new things. So I just let the girls do their own thing and focused on him for training.

However, in bringing Lilo and Nani to parties with OUT our little boy, Lilo HAS stepped up and done better than I thought possible in front of groups. So I may do some LIGHT training with her after all. Just basic touch target stuff, not flying on command, but maybe making sure she knew I would reward her if I were to, like, show the kids her gliding membrane or even, IF SHE WAS HAVING A BRAVE DAY AND FELT LIKE IT, be petted by participants. Usually she will have NONE of that from anyone but me, so we shall see.
