[[NB: Not receieved Sophia's foal cert yet, but as evidence of her name please refer to her basket cert. Thank you.Also... to help me later on: #07c07f (Crowns colour code)]] Crown watched his cousin as she tried to run and jump with him, she was a lot more unstable than he could remember ever being but had been assured by all of his family and herd that she would soon learn just like little Pele did.... the only problem was that Crown had no idea who 'little Pele' was.
Sure, he had heard rumours of another foal in the herd but had never seen her, after his meeting with Sengdroma he had been put to work training and learning new skills that would one day help him become a protector of the herd -a dream of his. He admired Maion and his son Drashi.... wanted to be like them if the truth be told.
With a reassuring smile he turned to his cousin and spoke softly; "It's ok Sophia.... keep trying. You're doing really well!" He chuckled softly and trotted to her side so that she didn't fall over, Crown didn't like the idea of her hurting herself at all, especially not while she was in his care.Sophia Phillipa Hale was new to the world, she was spoilt by her mother and father and doted on by practically everyone in the herd. She had been told it was because she was the youngest girl..... and they had only had a few of them lately in the herd. Three girls and four boys. Sophia had met her older cousin Eden -and found her to be no fun at all- but she had never met the other little girl. She looked over to Crown, she liked Crown, he was nice and friendly and always trying to help her. "Cro--wn?" She started, her words not yet fully formed or sounding right. When she said Crown it was more Cwooooooon than Crown. Then she tried to get her question out, "Do woo knew girl?" To Sophia the question made perfect sence, and she didn't see how anyone could misunderstand her meaning.

Pele hadn't met any other foals. But she didn't really think about it. The world was big and all the family she had met were big to fit in the world. Pele knew she was small, but in her mind, everyone else 'fit' the worlds. So even when she was told about the other foals, she pictured them as the same size as her Mama and Papa.
Pele hadn't learned to fly yet, but she had discovered that her wings were another natural extension of her body, and they could turn and spread and 'dance' with the rest of her.
The day was beautiful and sunny, though a bit chill. A soft wind blew in the tops of the trees but barely ruffled Pele's short mane. And nearby there was a rather cheerful cricket that was chirping it's heart out. The music of the world surrounded young Pele and her feet wouldn't stay still.
Singing with the wind and trees and insects, Pele knew words now, but didn't see music as needing them, music was the words of the heart, and singing was about expressing what one felt, not what one thought. And dance was the body joining the heart, telling the world how wonderful it is.
And so Pele was singing, and dancing, her feet and wings and voice and mind moving together. She saw the world only as part of the dance, her eyes half lidded to make sure she didn't run into anything, but seeing as little as she could so she could more fully engage in the music.
She didn't know she had moved beyond her normal area, or that there were others nearby. Not that it would have mattered to her. Right now she was reveling in communing with the world. What others might have seen or thought wasn't on her mind at all.

Crown looked at his cousin confused, he had no idea what she was asking. Taking a guess he replied, "Nope... no girls for me." Crown knew that most of the older stallions longed to find love and a lifemate.... but right now Crown had no interest in girls.... they were just girls.... and his sister was a girl, why would anyone want to be attached forever with someone? It would be like living with his sister forever, don't get him wrong, he loved his sister dearly.... but why would he look for that in someone else? He didn't understand.
Shrugging off the thoughts he was about to ask Sophia what she wanted to play today when a blur of yellow, orange and black caught his attention just beyond Sophia.
It took him only a moment to realise two things. The other foal hadn't seen them and if him and Sophia didn't move they would have an collision. "Sophia... move...." he called as he quickly moved so that he would be struck if they didn't get out the way quick enough or if the other foal change direction -she appeared to be dancing.
Sophia blinked at Crown as he answered. No girls for Crown? "Sophia girl!" She chirped brightly. It sounded more like Soppyia than Sophia.
Easily distracted she happily let Crown lead her after he had spoken, she didn't know what was happening but assumed it was another game. Crown knew the best games.
Crown blinked at Sophia but smiled and turned to check on the dancer. Deciding it would be saver to interupt her dance -although Crown was quiet enjoying watching- he called over. "Be careful!"

As Pele danced and sang, she noticed movement out of the corner of her eye. She altered her steps to ensure she wouldn't intersect whatever was moving out there. Likely it was Spike, he always seemed to follow her.
Another spin and wing flare and dip and twist and . . . that was someone speaking. It didn't matter, she wove her voice around theirs and incorporated them in the song. Prance and twirl and . . . that wasn't just a voice.
Someone had called out a warning and by the sound, it was directed at her. Pele stopped mid-movement, her voice caught mid-note. She held perfectly still. Only her head moving, she looked around. First at her feet and where they were taking her. Was there a hole or a snake she should be aware of? Not seeing anything, she looked around further. Her complete stillness of body might be a bit disturbing to others, but it wasn't strange to Pele. She had practiced complete stillness, because with it came a silence that let her hear the world.
Finally her eyes alighted on the other two foals. Wait, they were . . . they were her size. A huge grin split her face as she bounds towards them in sudden movement. Pele had by now learned how her body reacted to each tiny movement of muscle and she was able to change speed and direction with decent precision, she still wasn't where she wanted to be, but she was already more controlled in her movements than some adults.
Not realizing that these two wern't accustomed to her sudden and rapid advances, Pele bounded in what might be an alarming speed toward the foals. Her grin lighting up her face. She stopped at what to some might seem dangerously close to impact. Her wings spread to halt the last of her momentum made an impressive whooshing noise.
"Hi!" Eyes shining and smile bright, Pele was thrilled to meet someone her own size.

Crown let out a breath he hadn't realised he'd been hold when the little brightly coloured mare stopped. He was thankful that she had.... he was about to turn back to Sophia and say soothing words to her when he noticed movement again.... this time at a speed to great to dodge. Crown wasn't afraid of the speed, if it had just been him he could have moved or flew.... or something. But Sophia couldn't. The words of his mother and aunty rang in his head... 'Be a good boy and keep her safe, you know she manages to find trouble where ever she goes!' It was a warning they issued every time he took her out to play, but this was the first time he had actually felt he needed to keep her safe.
Determinded he stood before the small Angeni and spred his upper Angeni wings out as wide as he could, he braced his legs in the same fashion Drashi had taught him in order to aborb the power of a charging opponant.... oh he was so glad he had been paying attention that lesson.
He closed his eyes and listened to hoof prints.
They stopped?
He peeked with one eye at first, and sure enough the brightly coloured foal was before them. He let out another breath and turned to check on Sophia as he brought his wings back into his body. Satisfied everything was ok and safe he turned back to the 'friend'. "Hello. My name is Crown..... em...." He hesitated, he knew he had a duty to protect his cousin... but would it sound rude if he asked that the other foal took it easy until Sophia was a little stronger? With a gulp he decided to try, "...do you think you could go a little slower around Sophia? She is still wobbly... I don't want her to get hurt." He would never forgive himself if he failed protecting her.
Sophia again had no idea what was going on, she simply giggled as her cousin stood with his back to her and his wings out wide. "Funny!" (Foooonie) she chirped. Then as he lowered them she dared to peek a look.
Standing in front of Crown was... THE OTHER FOAL! He eyes went wide and she made a big 'O' shape with her mother before she said; "Pweeety!"
When Crown told the other foal his name she wanted to join in and chirped happily over what he was saying. "Sophia, Sophia... .. Sophia, Sophia...." Each time sounded like Soppyia.

Pele grins, "Yes, I remember being wobbly and falling and getting dirty and I'll be careful so Sophia doesn't fall, Crown, promise!" Now that she was here, Pele took a moment to really look over the other foals.
Crown only had two wings like her, though he had head wings, and she didn't. But Sophia had lots of wings like Papa Maion. Pele wondered for a moment where they got all those extra wings and if they'd make it easier or harder to dance.
At the piping voice repeating Soppyia, Pele remembered her manners. "Hello Sophia. I'm Pele', how are you?" Smiling as big and friendly as she could, Pele was caught up in the younger foal's excitement.
Glancing at Crown, grin still firmly in place, she wondered that he didn't seem as happy as she or Sophia were to meet each other. No matter, Pele would love him anyway. After all, everyone needed love and she had lots of it. Sophia was easier to love, but that just meant Crown must need it more, if he wasn't as open to love as they were.

Crown took a step back and smiled gently as the two younger foals spoke and introduced each other. He had mumbled a 'thank you' at her promise but she had found herself distracted in Sophia... something very each to do around the dainty creature.
Sophia beamed at the direct greeting, he tail wagging from side to side more like a dog than a horse. "Sophia good!" (Soppyia gooad) She wiggled her nose and attempted to say the other girls name. "Pe.....pee.....Pale.......?" Satisfied she started to sing it as she skipped wobbly around her new friend. "Pale, Pale, Pale, Pale." She stopped when she nearly bumped into Crown.
With a tilt of her head she looked up at him. "Crown no play?" (Cwoooon no pway?) "Sophia want Crown play!" (Soppyia wan Cwoooon pway!). Then, as only a cousin could she started to tug on his slightly longer mane in an effort to pull him towards Pele, she didn't realise that they were already pretty close.
Crown raised an eyebrow at Sophia and chuckled softly. "Ok, Sophia.... Crown will play." he looked back and forth between the pair. "What would you guys like to play?"
In that moment Crown decided something, while they all played together he would protect them both..... that way Maion could be proud of him.

Pele smiled at her exuberant new friend. She could understand Sophia, not being much older. She started to bounce with her new friend, but remembered her promise to be careful and stayed still instead.
When Sophia started tugging on Crown, Pele couldn't help but giggle. Maybe Crown wasn't so bad, he seemed to care about Sophia anyway. And it seemed Sophia could get him to smile. Pele realized that he must have just been worried and decided he was okay.
However, being asked what she wanted to play stopped Pele. She'd not actually played with anyone before, and most of the playing she did on her own was singing and dancing. And she didn't think Sophia was up for dancing.
"Ah . . . I dunno?" Pele was open to playing, but she didn't want to expose her ignorance, so she turned to Sophia, "You can choose, Sophia."

Crown rolled his eyes, "You shouldn't have said that...." he chuckled, Sophia usually only picked one game, probably because it was the only one she remembered. Though Crown had probably also encouraged it since Sophia got to hide in it which meant she was less likely to fall over and get hurt.... plus she wasn't very good at hiding so he could keep an eye on her as he pretended to 'seek'.
Sophia beamed at the request, he tail wagging again as she looked to Crown for approval before returning her attention fully back to Pele. "Sophia want hide!" (Soppyia wan high!)
Crown shook his head again and laughed, "See...." He said as if that would explain it all. Still, he would deny Sophia nothing. With a smile he said, "Ok Sophia, you can hide. I will be the seeker." He turned to face Pele, he wasn't sure what to make of her.... perhaps he was just a little intimidated. He had been told that she was the youngest daughter of Maion -and although Crown admired Maion he was also afraid of him at times, and something told him that Maion would not be happy if anything happened to Pele.
He gulped back his nerves. "You can hide too." Then as a last minute thought he asked, "You know how to play right?" He smiled, he hadn't really considered it before but he had never seen Pele play with anyone else, he supposed she could have played with Eden plenty of times and he would never have known... after all Eden would disappear for no apparant reason for hours at a time, and said very little afterwards.... then again, Eden just said very little.

Pele listened to the other two. Hide? That was a game? Why was hiding a game? Then she heard that Crown would be a seeker, so, maybe it was only half the game.
Then Crown asked, and Pele didn't mind showing her ignorance, it was better than being lost. Shaking her head side to side, "No?" A little intimidated that these two were so comfortable together and understood each other so well, Pele fell silent.

Crown felt a tug in his heart as the other foal stilled...... and for some reason he almost felt.... guilty? Afterall, he had known about the other foal but they had never played before..... did that make him a bad person? His ears dropped as he tried to figure out what to do..... If it had been one of his siblings or cousin he would of comforted them with touch, but he didn't really know Pele', would she reject his touch?
After a moment of indecision he decided he would act as he did around his 'family', after all.... she was herd which meant she was family too!
He stepped towards Pele and softly brushed his wing along her side before he moved his head in and nipped at her mane affectionatly. He didn't like it when someone in the herd was sad, he may only be young but he had always been sensative to such things. "Not a problem Pele," he said with a smile. "One of us counts to something, like thirty while everyone else hides. Once they finish counting the go in search of the others. That person is known as the seeker, and those that hide are hiders." He took a step to Sophia and nuzzled her softly, he didn't want her to feel left out. "Simple enough. You can hide anywhere in the herd lands..... but to make it fair we usually say that you can't change hiding places."
As he spoke little Sophia was wobbling from side to side in a happy 'dance' as she sung, "Hide.... hide..... hide...." (High... high.... high....)
When Crown came over to give her some attention the grin on her little face widened. "Love you!" (Wubbb yoooou!) she called before getting excited and trying to dance around him. Unfortunitly her legs gave way under her and she landed on her bottom, her experssion wide like a startled earwig.
For a moment she just sat and stared, then as everything sunk in she started to cry.
Crown had been looking at little Pele when Sophia wobbled onto her bottom, he heard a soft 'thump' moments before she started crying. Heart racing he turned to her instantly, "Oh.... I am so sorry Sophia." He should have been more careful! He kicked himself. He stepped towards her, closing the small distance between them. "It's ok Sophia... you're all right." He nuzzled her neck again.

Pele was comforted by the touch. It was nice and reassuring and she felt like she belonged. Listening closely as Crown explained the rules, Pele nods, "I can do that."
Pele had just turned to smile at Sophia when she wobbled onto her rear. "Oh, ah . . ." She didn't even manage a step forward before Crown was there. If either of them had been looking at her, Pele's face would have shown her confusion. Sophia hadn't hurt herself, and it wasn't Crown's fault. But the two of them interacted in a way Pele could never remember interacting with anyone else.
When Pele had fallen, she knew she was loved and cared for, but it was treated as something that happened. She had never cried, because she had never thought it was something bad. But if Crown or someone else coddled Sophia every time she fell, it was no wonder the littler foal cried.
True, there was something about innocent and endearing about Sophia, something that engendered a nurturing response. But wasn't it just as important that she grow up strong?
Pele didn't say anything. Maybe she had it wrong. After all, she had never been around other foals before. Instead she watched, waiting, even more uncomfortable than before. She didn't know how to act, but she was brave enough to stay and learn.
Of course, Pele's discomfort meant she started shifting her feet. Shifting feet put her in mind of a rhythm, and that lead her to thinking of a song. Pele understood that singing might not be appropriate, but she couldn't stop herself from humming. More subconscious than conscious, Pele swayed and hummed, watching Sophia and Crown, wondering what to do.

Crown smiled as Sophia nodded and started to pull herself back up onto her all fours. He continued to smile as he said; "Go and hide Sophia while I just make sure Pele' knows the rules." Although Crown knew the other foal understood the rules he didn't want Sophia to know his reall purpose for sending her away for a moment.
So he leaned in close and said; "That way you can pick the best spot first!"
Sophia beamed at Crown, he always had the best ideas and the best games. Tumble forgotten she nodded, looked around and then started trotting off towards a nice little bush she could sit behind.
Crown watched Sophia for a moment and then turned to Pele, with a nevrous laugh he watched the other foal for a moment and noticed the dancing and the humming, Crown had never really been very musical.... but he had always enjoyed watching others. Not really wanting to interupt her he coughed, paused for a moment and then finally said.... "Sorry about that, Sophia is.... delicate." He said with a rough smile, that was probably more like a wobbly lip. He didn't usually talk about it, but he knew that Alice -Sophia's mother- would want the other one to know so that she could watch out for Sophia too. "She was very sick when she hatched, has always been a little weak and sickly... her Mummy was really ill when she was pregnant." He said, not entirely sure what some of it meant but reciting it just the way he had been told, "Because of this Aunty Alice says we have to watch over her... she is fragile." He nodded as if this was all matter-of-fact.
After a moment he commented, "Your dancing is very pretty." He felt a little funny saying those words out loud, his cheeks pinkened and he turned his head away swiftly before trying to talk again, but this time his words stumbled and bumped into each other, "Em..... shall... we... eh.... ya-know..... play?"

Pele watched as Crown righted Sophia. As she listened to him explain how she'd been sick, Pele thought she understood a little. But to her, Sophia didn't look sick. Maybe she was better and just no one gave her a chance to show it. But it didn't matter, if she was suppose to treat Sophia careful, she could do that.
Pele nods her understanding that Sophia is fragile, but is confused when Crown seems . . . embarrassed? talking about her dancing. When the opportunity to escape into the game is mentioned, "Oh, yes, please." Pele hoped she hadn't been too eager, but she really didn't know what to say.
"I'll just . . . go hide." And with that, Pele trots off, glancing back occasionally to see what Crown was doing as she left.
It took Pele a while to find the perfect hiding place. She got outside of easy vision quickly, and started hunting for a place to hide. Eventually she found the Blackberry bushes. There wern't any berries left on the bushes, but they were near enough to the lake that she could hear the gentle sound of water lapping the shore. And if one knew where to look for it, there was a Spike sized tunnel into the bushes that lead to a space between them that she could lay down in.
It took some wiggling and some of the briers still snagged at her mane and tail, but Pele was able to get in among the bushes. Laying there, the sunlight filtering down, green, through the leaves above her. She smell of over ripe berries and old berry pulp thick around her. Pele became very still, listening as she had trained herself to do. The birds and the wind and the lake and the little insects in the ground and bushes around her. She managed to stay quiet, but it was hard, wanting to sing with them. But soon she fell into something akin to a trance.
Of course, Pele didn't know enough to hide her hoof-prints, or the signs at the edge of the bushes where she wiggled into the center of the blackberry patch. But if someone was just looking for her, she was quite well hidden.
