Shouji lived a "normal" life before he joined VivieNne. He had loving parents and a down-to-earth girlfriend, Natsuki. His father leads a mediocre wedding band and, after finishing school, Shouji joined his father's band full-time as their drummer. He enjoyed working with his father and their friends, but wished there was something bigger for him. He got engaged to Natsuki shortly before meeting the other band members and hoped to find a higher-paying job in the future to help fund their wedding.
Shouji auditioned for VivieNne, after seeing a flyer posted by the others (the other band members had already been put together by chance, leaving them only with the task of finding a drummer). Only a few applicants turned up to the audition, but luckily Akemi was impressed by Shouji and accepted him. Being selected in this way made Shouji feel like it was harder for him to fit in with the others, but his relationship with them grew quickly and he became close with all of them.
Shouji is perhaps the most "sensible" member of the band and doesn't tend to get involved with many of the others' out-of-work activities. He prefers to spend his time with Natsuki and visits home whenever possible, although he sees a lot of his fiancée at work too, as she is their official photographer.
He has a close relationship with Akemi, as they seem to be the only two band members who can have a serious or intelligent conversation together. He sees Yuki, Hiro and Karin as younger brothers or even his children and often has to work hard not to lose his temper with them (in the friendliest way possible).
