Our TV last night got a pixel-sized and shaped white spot on it. I tried to wipe it off the screen like it was a bug only to determine it was IN the screen... we turned on the Wii, same spot. Turned on the XBox, same spot, put in a movie, same spot.

We're doomed, there were two more white spots when we turned it on this afternoon, and AS we watched an episode of Castle, another appeared.

So, since yesterday we now have four white spots on our screen. I didn't think projection TV's HAD pixels, guess I was wrong.

Fortunately the prices have gone waaaaay down since we got this one almost 4 years ago (we paid 2,000 incl. stand on a super sale price. Now I can get almost as big for $700). I'm calling Samsung's customer support line tomorrow... but I think this is the beginning of the end for this TV.

We are super sad, we rarely eat out, we don't go out drinking, don't go to the theatre (too freaking loud!) and this television is our entire entertainment system. If it dies, we have got to replace it. The boxing week sales are still on, free shipping plus discounted price... unfortunately I'm not willing to spend much with the debt we're about to have so we'd be downsizing from our 56 inch screen. Boo. Also giant frigging ARGH BAD TIMING TV!!! Hope Samsung gives me an easy fix when I call tomorrow, but I think we're SOL...

So, could anyone give input/feedback regarding my problem? Is our TV doomed?

What about input/feedback on some of these?

Or new suggestions?

Please keep in mind we don't give two farts about blu-ray or super hi-def and all that crap. Top of the line we don't want or need. I also hate LCD as I swear I see the pixels at all times and they piss me off. xd

Do they not make rear-projection TV"s anymore?

I'm 99.99999% certain this is my TV. This means we have LED lights as pixels?

Dooooooooom....

Does running a computer with the TV as a screen require more effort from the TV?

I talked to almost all my co-workers in our free moments today. Today is the last day of the sale so it had to be NOW. sweatdrop

I think your TV is doomed, sorry luv.

I know how much this sucks, I hope and pray ours lasts another year +. however it's been slowly getting darker and showing signs of age...and it's like a giant tv as well, I'd want another one this big...

Boxing week SALES? OK, I can't even recall what boxing day is, I know I was told once when I was a child, but I forgot...but for some reason, it shocks me to hear it has it's own sales week with it...

I hope you find a good solution. 3nodding

Don't worry chickie, it's a 'good' kind of debt. I'll announce officially once we know for sure and the last of the papers are signed.... once they put a SOLD sign on it I'll take a pic to commemorate the occasion. Until then I don't trust this not to fall through so my lips are sealed.

Another pixel burned out today, it's on a downhill slope it seems. sad

I was horrified too, but you know they've gone down a LOT in price, so it won't be as expensive to get the same size in replacement as you originally paid.

Yup, Boxing Week. We don't do black friday or whatever it's called (as far as I know) but Boxing Day has the gatecrasher prices, and the awesome sale prices last all week following Boxing Day. Today was the last day as tomorrow it moves to New Years' Eve instead, though I'm sure some places will have the sale tomorrow as well. Best prices of the year aside from Clearance prices.

We did settle on one, the last one I linked, it will be good, and there's a silver lining to this cloud, we're going to have more floorspace because this one is thinner than our current old rear projection one. smile

Yeah, sticking pixels like that start, and quickly go downhill.

Good choice in the plasma. Good contrast ratio, plasma > LCD, good price, no 120hz or 3D mumbojumbo, and a surround sound bar. Good stuff.

Steadily maintaining 1-2 pixels burning out per day. It's been 5 days and we've got 8 glaringly white dots splashed across the screen.

Thank you for the reassurance regarding the one we chose, my good chap!

Okay Amanda, we bought our first home.

It's an apartment, the building is only 4 years old and we got a good price... which was good because we juuuust scraped through the requirements to get approved for the loan. (Hubby had school in 2009)

I am extremely psyched for our new fireplace and dishwasher, and have already shed a couple of tears for my garden, which is facing a mass culling to fit my (fortunately 12 foot by 8 foot) balcony. I SHOULD be able to take a decent amount of my flowers and I'm going to layer all the bulbs... hopefully it will work out okay. We are excited and scared, I can say this is good but still feel panic as it's well out of my comfort zone, but I know that's only because we've never bought before. We did all our research and looked at all the numbers, we're good. It's going to cost only $100 more a month than we've been paying in rent and now we'll have equity building instead of nothing.

There are another 6 years left on the warranty of the building, and the Strata has a good chunk of money in its account for unforeseen costs, so we shouldn't have to face any sudden expenses for a while, please and thank you!

We signed the papers officially last night, but until I have the keys in my hand it still won't feel real.

Oh, and our building is across the street from the ocean. Literally. We are not facing the water but if we were we'd have to listen to traffic and the place would have cost more, so we're certainly happy. That, and because of the shape of the building and the curve of the land we can actually see a bit of the water from our living room, enough to know it's a sunset worth heading across the street to see. smile
