I've been overplaying a lot the past few days.... Saturday I had 2 concerts, with 2 1/2 hours of dress rehearsal before hand, so thats about 4 1/2 hours of playing high parts without an assistant. Then Sunday I had another concert plus 2 hours of hard rehearsal. Then Monday I played 3 hours, then Tuesday 3 hours plus a concert. Sunday, Monday and Tuesday would not have been bad at all if my face had had time to heal from Saturday... by the end of the first concert on Saturday I tasted blood. Now school is finally out and I have time to rest, but at the same time I don't have time to rest!!! I have a concerto competition next week, and within the next month I have 1 college audition, 2 youth orchestra seating tests and all state to practice for!!! I don't have time for my face to die!! Any tips for healing quickly??? Today I had about 45 minutes of decent playing and after that I was absolute garbage for the rest of the day.

depends on what you're playing in my opinion i play the clarinet adn the worst thing i've had is sore very chapped lips, so i just use alot of chap stick. i'm not sure what you play so yeah maybe if i knew i might be able to give tips.

There's really no "quick" way to heal. You take your lumps and do your best. If I were you, perhaps practice by fingering through if you get tired next time you've a competition approaching. Saves your face and keeps you working on your upcoming event music. If youre a brass player there sin't much you can do except not play, but if you've got chapped lips from playing Woodwind might I suggest Neosporin lip balm? Comes in a cylinder container and you wipe it on with your finger. Let yourself rest, put it on, then wipe off before playing since I find Chapstick hinders me more than chapped lips.

Also, if you constantly play/practice for a set amount of time daily and work it up, you'll have more face longer.

I agree, but I play trumpet. Do you mean your entire face was destroyed?

its all better now. I play horn. when I overplayed, my lip split where my mouth piece falls.... I took a full day off after all the crazieness of school was over and that helped me revive myself before the competition. I also took a few pain killers and iced my face a lot. Even after my full day off it still wasn't 100% so I took it light
