Grinning with devilish anticipation, he patted the leaves and bits of twig carefully with a paw. Hopefully the little trap looked ok... at least ok enough to hide it from an unsuspecting pride member. Giggling he eyed his morning's work and nodded with satisfaction. The little pit he had excavated was no more than a few paws deep, but it had taken long enough that his short cubby attention span had waned and he'd decided it was deep enough. Then, he had tried to figure out a way to fill it with swamp water, though the land itself had helped a little, filling the bottom with a murky kind of sludge. Eventually he had figured out that mud from the swamp bottom was wetter than regular mud, and had scraped a whole load out, packed it onto huge waxy leaves and dragged them carefully all the way to where his hole was. In went the mud and the leaves were shredded to go over the top as camouflage once all his mud-moving was complete.

So now the young cub stood, covered head to toe in filthy swamp-goo, grinning at a suspicious looking mound of shredded leaf litter and other greenery he had pilfered from the bushes close by.

"What'cha doing?" called Uko from behind Farai. She happened to spot him just as he stepped back to admire his work, only she had no idea what his work was. Needless to say, Farai looked awfully suspicious. She sat down beside him and tilted her eat curiously.

Her white toes were almost entirely consealed by mud and her mane tuft wavy and unkempt, a leafy stick tucked behind her ear. In other words, business as usual. She cared a great deal about her appearence, though her idea of 'good looks' was obviously a little skewed. She loved to wear nature.

Jumping as the voice came from behind he turned and relaxed when he saw who it was. "Uko." The grin widened as he wiggled a paw at her, urging her closer. "Look what I made!" Pointing his filth-covered paw at the suspicious looking bump in the ground he was practically vibrating from excitement.

"Can you guess what it is?" He turned right round and beamed at his sister before plopping his butt in the muck and tilting his head at her. "Whats with the twig sis?" Giving her the classic 'baffled male' look at her attempts at grooming herself, the young Farai simply couldn't ever work out why she intentionally covered herself in the slimy swamp mud.. after all, he was always covered in it without any effort.

"Huh? Oh! You noticed!" Uko smiled, tilting her head so the light struck the leaves just right. "All the other girls wear flowers in their mane. I saw this leafy twig and thought it looked so pretty, so I decided to wear it. It's different, isn't it?"

She loved being different, even when different meant acting quite odd. Maybe it had something to do with her daddy always talking about their grandmother, a brave and beautiful lioness who sacrificed herself for her cubs, and how Uko was named after her. Uko wondered why Anila couldn't have been the one to get named after her grandmother. After all, according to their daddy, Anila looked much more like grandma Ukosa. She even had her eyes.

Oh well.

She squinted at the little mound her brother made. "Uh... is it a mud puddle?"

"Heh... its certainly different." he replied rather dubiously, but gave her a bright smile as well. "Its not as pretty as you, sister." The young cub added with a proud grin. He thought the world of his family. His dad was the bravest lion in the pride, his mom was the best fighter, and his sisters were the prettiest of their age. He just knew he would be busy defending them when they grew old enough for ugly-a** older boys to be interested. Though why they would bother he had no clue, he just knew it was the way of things, so had already decided to be his sisters protector.

Turning back to his creation with pride he paused and gave her an aghast look of horror. "Its not just a puddle!" he cried, moving over and poking the mass of gloopy mud and leaves. "Its a pit-trap!" He grinned proudly. "Soon as someone walks into it, they will tumble over onto their face!" Giggling rather evilly he smirked at his sister. "Wana try it?"

Uko rolled her eyes but smiled all the same. She actually enjoyed getting compliments, though she rarely acted that way. She didn't want anyone to think she was influenced by their opinions. It was far better to be her own person.

When her brother yelped Uko sat up bolt straight and stared at him with wide eyes. Was he really so upset over a silly mud puddle?

She shrugged and stepped forward. Instead of tripping over the hole she stepped right into it unimpeded. The leaf litter supported her weight for about half a second before her paw sank into the mud past her ankle. She stepped back out of the puddle, shaking off her messy paw, and giggled softly at her brother. For a 'trap' it wasn't very effective.

As his sister pressed her paw into the mud, a long-suffering sigh slipped from her brother, but amber eyes remained amused. Shaking his head he padded forwards and carefully fixed the new dent in his trap, patting the mud till it settled back into place. "Not like that, sister. They come walking along and the drop throws them off balance... just sticking your paw in wont do it."

Chuckling he shrugged faintly and tipped his head at her. "Anyway, what are you doing out here sis?" He asked, since he had picked one of the paths that led towards the hunting grounds for his trap.. a place where adults were more likely to walk in a straight line.
