User Image Hathi was taking a nice leisurely walk by the river, trying to see what Koko always saw when he was off staring into space--what was so interesting about trees and grass and dirt and the rocks in the river and the little bugs that crawled along the grass and the leaves.

Well, okay, Hathi could kind of understand that one, because he wanted to see how the little buggy's wings worked too, because maybe then he could learn to fly like they did and that would just be so cool!

Sighing wistfully, Hathi rounded a bend in the path, still absently studying the forest around him when he decided to get closer to the river to study it for a while, since the dry land around him was being really boring right now.

Shaking his head at Koko (even though he wasn't there), Hathi wandered over to the river, being careful bcause the stones near the bed were wet and could make him fall--and then he noticed her!

At least...he thought it was a 'her'. She was sprawled on the ground, feet sticking straight out, soaking wet, and her eyes weren't open.

"Oh no!" Hathi squealed, dashing over to her, nearly tripping himself on his way over. "Are you dead? Don't be dead! I don't know what to do with dead things! Here isn't a good place to sleep! Wake up!" Hathi implored, his words pouring out in his complete panic as he nudged her more and more insistently. What was he going to do! What if she needed help!

His wings were beating at a furious pace as he got more and more anxious. He couldn't just leave her there! Where were her parents? Weren't they worried about her?

"Wake up, pleeeease," Hathi whimpered pleadingly, nudging her again wit his nose. "C'mon, it's okay, wake up,"

Almost everything was a blur. First there was a river, then a stumble. Nothing but swallowing a lot of water and a choking feeling happened after that. At least the choking was gone, but... who knows how long that went on for? Kihaku sure didn't as she laid sprawled on the rocks lining the river's edge, it sure didn't feel like she was breathing either.

How the filly got in this predicament all began on the third day of being lost in the forest. Desperate to leave the area where she narrowly escaped a Kalona from the previous day and still desperate to find her father, she walked deeper into the forest. If that wasn't bad enough, she some how got separated from her friend she had just made... perhaps during the attack.

Soon enough, the filly came across a large river. What luck! Relieved, she rat to the water's edge and practically dunked her face into the cool liquid and proceeded to quench her thirst. Once she was finished, she lifted her head, water dripping from her nose, chin and jaw. Her red eyes looked over the expanse of the river, ears perked at the sound of the rushing water. She doesn't remember crossing a river. Did that mean she was going the wrong way or just on a different path? Either way, she had to cross.

Slowly and hesitantly, Kihaku slipped one hoof into the water, followed by another, then another, then another. Sure enough, she waded through the shallow side of the river, being wary of her footing on the rocks on the bottom. As she crossed, a fish's sudden splash to escape being walked on, startled her, causing her to buck lightly and lose her footing and be swept downstream. Fortunately, she regained her footing before she got swept too far. With that, she kept moving. It was as the water started to get to her chest that she started to worry. The filly wanted to keep her hooves on the riverbed, not really knowing how to swim (an unknowingly inherited "curse" from her father). The water seemed to be getting faster as well, the deeper she went.

With one more step, that's when everything went by so fast. Taking a step, she literally stumbled upon a sudden dip in depth in the bottom. This caused her to lose her footing and be tossed upside-down as the water carried her downstream. Whenever she resurfaced, she would let out a loud neigh before being pulled under again, hoping someone would hear. Sadly, no one did as she was swept further down. The filly just had to close her eyes and hope that if she kicked her legs about long enough, she could get out of this.

Unknown how long or how far, Kihaku was eventually washed up on shore. Her breath was shallow, almost non-existent, eyes closed tight. The world had seemed to stop around her... but wait, was that a voice? She was sure someone was speaking to her. Wake up? She thought for a moment. Soon enough she coughed, water sputtering from her mouth before letting out a groan. Listlessly, she lifted her head, eyes slowly opening, only into slits though. "Wha-... whe-..." she looked around in a daze, not registering the fuzzy form of another foal just yet, "what happened?"

Hathi smiled widely in relief as she finally stirred and spoke, though his wings were still beating frantically at his sides, revealing how not-calm he really was. This poor filly looked half-dead! It distressed the colt greatly, because he had no idea where her family was or even where his family was and he had no idea where he should go if she needed help or if she was dead--

But she wasn't dead, so it was all okay!

"I was hoping you could tell me," Hathi joked weakly, awkwardly kneeling down next to her--avoiding her unicorn horn, which looked very very sharp--to very gently nudge some of her hair out of her eyes with his nose, like Mama did for him when he was sick or hurt.

"Um...um...can you move?" he asked anxiously, frowning still as his big blue eyes looked down at her unfocused red ones. "Is your Mama or Daddy around somewhere?"

Vision was fuzzy, head was spinning and it still felt that she was swishing about in water. Was that how swimming really like? If so, Kihaku never wanted to do that again. Groaning more, the filly started to attempt to push herself back onto her legs, which felt a lot like they did when she emerged from her basket, so that wasn't an easy task.

The voice of the other was still much more clearer than who they were as her red eyes still adjusted. By what she could tell though, the other had some sort of wings, but not like her 'mother's' by what she could tell. Smell was out of the question, her nostrils just filled with the scent of water at the moment, so she couldn't tell if it was male or female at the moment. When the other moved her hair from her eyes, she gazed up toward the movement, more out of reaction than anything else. Everything was still going so fast, so not all of the others questions were answered. Slowly, she continued to try to get onto her hooves as the question of the location of her parents came up. "I... I... don't know where Daddy is." She said weakly, tears starting to well in the corners of her eyes from the thought.

So she did have a Daddy at least but she didn't know where he was...kinda like Hathi and his mama...Hathi offered a little bit of a weak smile.

"I dunno where my mama is either, but it's okay," Hathi said, nodding in encouragement as she tried to get up. "We can try to find both of 'em. Together. Can you walk, are you okay?" Hathi asked again, his wings only slowing by a fraction.

"How did you get here? How are you even still alive?" Hathi wondered, the thought that he might be overwhelming the poor filly not even entering his scattered brain.

"See, I bet you can stand, it's okay, we'll both be okay," Hathi said, gently nosing her as she tried to stand again. "We'll find your parents, okay?" Hathi nodded, convincing himself as much as we was convincing her. "We can take care of you 'till we do, okay?"

"Are you hungry? Or thir...okay, not thirsty probably right?" Hathi let a weak chuckle escape, though he was far too worried about his new friend to actually laugh.

After some time, her wobbly legs strengthened enough to allow her to stand. She appreciated his company and his concern as he asked her multiple questions and told her it would be okay. "I-I'm fine." She answered, shivering a little from the air around them hitting her wet fur. She walked away from the rivers edge, scared of slipping in again. Once at a good enough distance, she gave a weak shake, sending some excess water flying.

His question of if she was still alive made her blink some. Of course she was alive, she was up and speaking, right. She just lightly shook her head. His other question about how she got here made her ears flatten. "I-I was trying to cross the river to look for my Daddy. When I got to the middle of the river, I slipped and I got carried by the water down here. I don't know how far I got carried, I just remember waking up here and you being here." She answered, turning her head and looking back to the water behind her.

She smiled at him when he nosed her gently, tail 'wagging' softly in response. "Thank you. That's very nice." She said softly. When he had asked if she was hungry, she shook her head. Right now, she was just more shook up than anything else. "I-I'm Kihaku, by the way."
