Shakuntala came out the den, the black lioness was slouching slightly. She missed her children they had all left the pride lands and had yet to return with their new names. The black lioness was at a loss without her babies, her cubs had been her whole life for so long and now she didn't know what to do with what felt like endless amounts of time she had on her hands.

Lucky for Shakuntala she had now found her new name and what seemed like a mate. It was hard for her to imagine that she would be able to find a mate and have a family after all that had happened in the past but she was beginning to feel like her life was coming together.

Maji was walking down a familiar path when he spotted the black lioness stepping out of her den. He froze for a moment, half stunned by the sight of her. That was Mysmyr’s mate. She had her back turned to him. Eyes narrowed, Maji quietly inched backward and weighed his options.

In some ways he still blamed her for what happened. How inconceivable was it that Mysmyr’s own mate was oblivious to his alter ego? She must have known something. Even if it was only a twinge of suspicion, how could she not have told anyone when lions were dying? He needed to know. Swallowing his emotions, Maji approached her with forced casualness, a mask he did not plan to wear for long. When he was within easy speaking distance he called softly to get her attention, “Semira.”

Semia turned quickly at the mention of her name, she wasn't use to her new name still and responded to it quite frequently. She smiled when she saw the other lion she recognized him but didn't know him well. "Hello" she said in her soft voice.

Semira had mostly gotten over the nightmares that plagued the pride when Mysmyr was alive. Semira had blamed herself a great deal for all that had happened it was after all her and her make shift family that had brought him to the lands, it was hard for her to understand how it all happened. Mysmyr and Semira hadn't been all that close despite the fact he had sired her litter, it had really only been a few nights that they had spent together and then he had distanced himself from her, Semira had never understood why until he was reveled as the murder.

“Good morning,” he replied, using the idle greeting as an opportunity to study her. She didn’t seem to remember him. “I used to be called Wahadi. You were a friend of my mother before she died.”

For now Maji tried to keep his tone neutral. He knew that if he approached her in anger she would get upset and maybe even run away. As much as he disliked her, he could deal with his emotions for the sake of the truth.

Shankuntala froze when he said his old name, tears came to her eyes Ukosa had been her first friends when she had come to the new home. Ukosa was a very kind lioness and Ukosa had been very sweet and Tala missed her greatly to this day.

"Wahadi" she said softly. Tala remembered the cub from when he was just a tiny little thing, she had helped his aunt raise him and his siblings, but once the cubs began to get a bit older and she had cubs of her own Tala had backed off and given the family some space. "You must be back from your naming quest, have you found your new name?" she asked politely "Is there something I can do for you?"

Good, she remembered him. However, Maji only had vague memories of her. He had completely forgotten the incident with her son. Truth be told, that fight was only one of many Maji started at that age. They all blurred together now. Maji couldn't say he ever completely overcame his anger.

He looked at Semira seriously. "Yes, I have. I wanted to ask you about Mysmyr."

Tala's stomach twisted and the mention of the white and pink lions name. The lion that was the father of her cubs. Her cubs that thanks goodness had not shown ANY of their father's tendencies she had been terrified that they would be anything like him. "I will do what ever I can for you dear." she said to the lion. She still wanted to picture him as a young cub, someone that she cared deeply for. She knew that Ukosa would have loved her cubs deeply and would want Tala to do anything and everything she could for them.

Tala tried to rack her brain to think of what Wahadi might want to ask, she hoped that she would have the answers for him, but she didn't know if she would. Mysmyr was not exactly forth coming. She had been as shocked as everyone else when it was revealed that he had been the killer. Her stomachs continued to do flips while she waited for his questions to come.

Maji stopped thinking of himself as a cub the day he learned the truth about his mother. Remembering that day in Kabusa’s den still sent shivers down his spine. On that day everything stopped and the next morning was like waking up for the first time ever. The day after his father’s funeral he felt the same thing. It was like dying and being reborn except that everything was the same, but also painfully different. This stopped him from sympathizing with Semira. As much as she went through, she could not imagine the pain he had suffered.

The first question leapt to his lips. “Did you know what he was doing? Did you suspect?”

Tala sat and took a deep breath she didn't know where to start, she wasn't even sure of her own feelings all the time of what had happened. Had she known what was going to occur or that he was evil in the first place she would have nver mated with him. She would have quickly pointed him out to the pride leaders that he was up to know good. She would have put a stop to it, she would have changed the out come Ukosa might still be alive. She closed her red eyes and thoguht deeply how to answer such a hard question, and it was ony the first question to come from the troubled lion.

"No Wahadi I didn't know. I had no inclination." she shifted her weight, "I suppose you are old enough to know the ways of the world now so I can tell you this. Mysmyr and I were not a mated couple, instead we had what you would call a fling. He spent a few days serducing me and then once he had finished with me he barely said one word to me. When the cubs came he didn't even speak to them as far as I knew." She shook her head, "I know that is probably not the answer you were looking for, and it provides you little comfort, I know it doesn't provide me much comfort."

Maji listened carefully and searched her eyes for signs of deception. When he found only honesty the tenseness in his shoulders seemed to loosen. He wanted to believe her. Thankfully, she gave him no reason to doubt. The last thing she said puzzled him. “I’m not looking for comfort, only closure. You can call me Maji now.

“Now listen, this is very important. While you were with him, did you notice anything strange? Anything… not natural?” He didn’t care tell her what he saw in the rogue lands. Even Kabusa didn’t know about the encounter with Mysmyr’s ghost, if it even was a ghost. He didn’t know what to call that thing.

Semira nodded when the lion told her his new name.... "I suppose you should call me Shakuntala, though I tend to go by Tala" she told him, calling one the correct name was often imprtant in the pride. She sat and thought hard about what she had seen in Mysmyr in the time that they had been together.

"He was an odd character suppose. I only thought that he was quiet. Not a social character. He didn't interact much with the group that we traveled with despite the fact we were travelling companions for so long. he was the last to join the group. After we came to the pride we seperated from us even more, he only spent time with me for a short period of time until I wound up pregnant and then he seperated from me too." She dug as deep into her memory as she could trying to pull up memories that she had burried them so deep, but now she wanted to help the young lion.

None of that sounded terribly unusual. He could see why Semira—why Tala never suspected him. Still, her testimony worried him. If Mysmyr was simply a normal lion, apart from being utterly insane, then what he saw in the rogue lands must have been some sort of spirit. That made sense, of course. Mysmyr never had a proper funeral. His spirit must have been cursed to wander rather than return to the earth. At least there was some justice in that.

Still, he felt angry that no one saw the monster inside Mysmyr. Maybe the only person he had to be angry with was Mysmyr for being such a damned good con. Just thinking about that b*****d made him want to curse. Maji only shifted his weight and grunted to himself. He almost asked her about Tala cubs. On second thought, however, it might be better just to keep an eye on them when they returned from their naming quests. “Thank you for being honest with me. Have any of your cubs come back from their name quests yet?”

Tala frowned at the mention of her cubs, they were a little yoiiinger then Maji and had set out on their quests shortly after Maji and his litter mates had left. "No I am sad to say that no none of them have come back home yet, all in good time I am sure." she said. She knew it was a right of passage that every member of the pride that was born here and to be go out on their naming quest but she missed her cubs dearly.

"I am sure that they will be home soon enough." she said a smile on her face. She tried to keep a positive outlook but at the same time she wanted to see them home and doing well.
