The Flatlands are generally considered to have one foot in the Otogakure and one foot in the Rice Country itself. If the Lowlands are the gates of the Otogakure, the Flatlands are the borderlines which separate it from the rest of the Rice Country. Most, if not all of the residents which tend the rice paddies here are civilians, but a few are retired ninja of the Otogakure, or even a select few operatives who may act as an early warning system. Either way, as the border between the Rice Country and the Otogakure, this area sees lots of visitors from all over, who must pass through these fields (or at least the wide pathways on the fringe of the rice paddies).

"That's fine. The horse knows this area well enough, we only need to guide her once we hit the split to change roads and leave familiar ground." he explained. He'd take the offer to sleep once they got onto the main roads, but his clone would take the reins. No need to make Kye do it.

For now, he amused himself by flipping through a couple of his recent journal entries, pulling out his pencil once more and scratching down extra notes on the technique he wanted to make. After about half an hour of this, working by light of a lantern his clone had hung over the front of the wagon, the sun having long set, he stopped, looking at his notes again as if having spotted something he'd never caught before in his own notes.

Flipping to a new page, Yasashii began writing again, flipping between the new page and several others through the book until he'd completely filled the new page with mangled bits of theories drawn together from all throughout his notes. To anyone reading it, the theories would make no sense, and be completely bizarre, yet he was smiling.

After reading the page through once more, Yasashii snapped the book shut, sliding it into the sack by his side. Holding his right hand open in front of him, he started channeling chakra into it, forming a ball over his palm. At this time of day, there was nobody left in the fields to worry about seeing him, even if they could tell what he did. The ball of chakra grew slightly, and condensed, and then again, pulsing as he tried to find the proper level of chakra for the technique to work.

Finally, after a couple of minutes, it did. The ball of chakra suddenly condensed completely, and in it's place there appeared... An apple. A simple red apple. Looking down at the fruit, Yasashii couldn't help but grin like an idiot, snickering to himself. He'd just created the single most seemingly pointless technique in existence, and he just knew it was going to be amazing.

Nodding silently to Yasa's words, Kye went back to staring out across the rice fields, her mind drifting back to her thoughts of the past and the future as well. She thought to herself what would transpire between her and Jade and wondered just how different she had become. Both of them had met when they were younger, rising ninja, Kye a lower rank then Jade herself at the time, but still on the road to greater things. She thought back to the many hours they spent training together, Jade teaching her the techniques of her Shunko style, seeming to be always the master in every situation.

Time had passed since then however, in fact, it had been about 10 years. She wondered how strong Jade had grown in that time and wondered what she would look like. Kye recalled that Jade always looked so youthful for her age, even at that time and figured that she probably bore the same youthful look now. Kye on the other hand, thought of herself as exhibiting the opposite. In the time between when Jade left and now, Kye had forged a nation and become the Otokage... which, at least in her mind had changed her appearance to a demeanor and look which was no longer her own, but the face it needed to be. She wasn't sure what Jade would think or if she would even still recognize her, but then again, it would be hard to mistake a one-armed ninja. She would have to hope that she would have some time alone with Jade to discuss matters of keeping her identity safe considering it would be hard-pressed for Jade to believe she was a diplomat of a foreign land now compared to what she was before.

Time would tell how the negotiations would go however, and the sake should help to sweeten the deal and improve Jade's mood, whatever mood she was in at the time. Kye thought back to all the times they had had sake together, recalling the number of times she carried Jade to her bed after she had had too much. Breaking free of her memories however, Kye then looked out to see that darkness had now covered the rice fields and that Yasa's clone had been holding a lamp to light their way. Yasa himself was now looking at an apple with a strange grin on his face, making Kye wonder what he was doing. "You going to eat that thing, or just stare at it? Either way, after you figure that out, you should probably get some rest and restore your chakra. I'll keep watch just as an added precaution and switch once daybreak comes. By then, we'll be at the Forest Road. odds are bandits will be less likely to strike in the daytime, but you never know, you might get to have some fun. I'll be sleeping though."

Yasashii shook his head at Kye's question. "Nope." he answered, still grinning as he set the apple down on the seat. 'I'll take the rest now though." he added, climbing into the back of the wagon as his clone took his place. While passing the clone, he set his hand on the seals again, flooding it with a good bit of his remaining chakra for the day. No point to wasting it after all. Climbing the rest of the way into the back, Yasashii laid down on a little mattress he'd tucked in for the nights, falling almost immediately to sleep.

His clone on the other hand, grabbed up the reigns as soon as he got seated, and turned the horse towards the forest road, them having finally reached the split in the road. It would be awhile yet before they got there, and with the night, they would be going slower than normal, but they were on their way. The trip from here on would be much faster.

The lantern is actually hung on a post at the front of the wagon, such as (I'm pretty sure) a lot of older wagons had. Their version of headlights and all.

Watching Yasa get settled, Kye was about to take the reigns that he had allowed to sit free when his clone suddenly took Yasa's seat and picked up the reigns for her. Shrugging at the clone's preference to guide, Kye sat back and continued to look out into the night, thinking about ehr village as it grew to be further and further behind her. She never liked to leave the Otogakure, mostly for fear of what could happen in her absence, but it was a necessary requirement. She had trained her operatives to work individually and together and had faith in them, but there was always a danger associated with the Kage of a village leaving. She had never had to prove it, but she was the strongest ninja in her village and if something were to befall it, she would not be present to serve that role.

That was all the more reason she wanted these negotiations to end quickly, and all the more reason to hope for as few distractions as possible. However, putting the thought of her village under assault aside, Kye focused on what success on her mission could bring for her country. Strength and Peace. Forging treaties with all nations would make them a neutral party, a place which offered nothing more or less to one village and had a complete intolerance for violence within. it would be a difficult thing to achieve, but it was the best Kye could do to ensure peace in the short-run at the very least.

She was not naive however. She was sure that sometime in the future, another nation might try to defy the treaty and take over her lands, but a treaty with all 5 of the great shinobi nations would lessen the appeal of such an action. If she could enter trade and peace relations with all villages, even if one village, or two attempted to gain control of their lands forcefully, the other remaining nations would likely attempt to interfere for fear that their own trade routes to Rice might be shut down. Such possible ramifications which could draw support or counter-attack from one or more shinobi villages would be reason enough for any aggressor to think twice before attacking the Otogakure. Kye would just have to hope that her theories could be turned into practice and that her dreams for a peace could become a reality.

For the remainder of the night, Kye's mind ran free with all the things she needed to coordinate and develop in the coming months and years, but was excited to see things finally begin to move. Her life had been a whirlwind of furious work, but soon, hopefully she would be able to enjoy the peace that she always dreamed of having for herself and her people.
