Tori rounded up her munchkins. It was uphill battle as always. Somehow there was always a roll of duck tape or something sticky accessible no mater how hard she tried to keep it away from them. And, if it wasn't that then it was something else. Thankfully no furniture was ever destroyed or anybody hurt but they sure had a mischievous streak. She plopped them on the rug in front of the fire before sitting down herself. She had wised up to the two and already had the books in place... She wasn't about to play the round up the kids game again.

"We are going to attempt to start learning our letters and numbers today," Tori said with a smile. She placed an alphabet coloring book in front of them and a box of crayons in between them. "And, please no trying to use the crayons as swords or anything else that you can think of..." she tried her best not to roll her eyes but she knew her kids. She could already see Sanqui's look coming, and Ixchellia's giggles following.

Oh boy she was in trouble and she knew it...

Sanqui had run like a monkey each time Tori went after them, signaling for Ixchellia to go one way while he went the other. It was fun listening to their mom huff and grumble as she sought them out. Least it made things fun and not boring or anything. He strongly disliked not having something to do. But he had been captured sooner or later and he mock flailed and complained before he was plopped down in front of a coloring book and some crayons. Oh, coloring time yes!! The no sword play remark made him pout and he mock flailed, rolling about and into his sister for fun, cause she would roll and hit him back most likely. "No fun! No FUN! Boooorin' mommy!"

She always ruined their fun! Sighing finally and laying out on his stomach in front of his coloring book, he picked up a crayon and began to do his best to color stuff in. He had no idea what she was talking about, all that letters and number nonsense, but he didn't wanna do it. Coloring seemed more fun than that!

The little, bright eyed girl's giggles could be heard throughout the entire house as her tiny feet pattered quickly down hallways, under tables and behind furniture - with Mommy in hot pursuit!

In Llia's mind, her chasing them only made this 'game' all the more fun.

Following her brother's signals, she always ran in the opposite direction to where he was going, unfortuantely giving them both away with loud squeals whenever they came accidentally across each other's paths.

Every time she'd noticed her brother about to be caught, she had run past as a distraction to try and lure Mommy after her instead, letting her cheeky sibling get away again.

But it seemed that Mommy had finally outsmarted them.

"EeeeEEE!" She emitted a high pitched squeak as she was scooped up, wriggling and giggling in her mother's hold before being plopped down on the rug in front of the fireplace and rolled into by Sanqui.

"FUN!" she parroted gleefully, rolling back onto her brother with a laugh, much too hyper at that moment to pay much attention to what Tori was saying.

However, when her twin moved away from her toward a pile of books, she looked up and her attention was instantly glued to them. Books - yay! The kind you were ALLOWED to draw on? Even better! Ixa clapped her hands excitedly. "Books!"

With a happy little grin, the toddler giggled and reached for the big box of crayons, tipping it over so all the colours spilled out everywhere. This way she could sort through them better.

With a raspberry coloured crayon grasped in one chubby hand, her red and green eyes glanced down at what Sanqui was colouring. Oooh - That looked interesting.

It was such a funny shape...like the moon she sometimes saw out her window but really thin and curvy, with a picture of some kind of furry, whiskery animal next to it. Without a second thought, Ixchellia flopped onto her tummy, nudged herself right next to her brother and began colouring the picture with him, bright pink mixing with his crayon.

Tori watched as Sanqui rolled into Ixchellia. They were adorable, sickeningly so at times. They got along exceptionally well and Tori was thankful for that... She had read plenty of stuff to know that a lot of siblings didn't always get along or get along so great that it was amazing. She just hoped that it would last.

How the twins had started on C and not A was a little bit beyond her. Then again they probably just turned to the first page and started there. At least they were coloring, that was a start. Now to get them interested and keep them interested. "You are coloring a C. C is for cat." She smiled. "But C isn't the first letter of the alphabet."

Sometimes, he wished Tori hadn't take his duct tape away. Though there was no question he loved his sister, of yes he did, but he had to teach her really soon that she couldn't giggle all the time! Stealth missions were ruined by her giggling! >>... how were they supposed to be sneaky if she couldn't keep it down? But that was for later. For now, he was coloring the page in front of him, his bare feet kicking lightly back and forth. He was... somewhat listening to his mother and he hummed faintly as he worked. "Cat.. cat.. cats like hats..."

When Ix started doodling on his page, he didn't overly mind, nor did he when she made sure she was right next to him. It was natural to have Ix be right there and though he made a slight face as her pink merged with his black cause.. the pink was so vibrant!... he only nudged into her more and smirked. "C is... wha?" He looked up then and he looked at her. "Alla-bet?" What was Tori going on about? "C is cat?" That didn't make a lick of sense to him and he whispered, loudly, to his twin: "You gettin' this?"

Ixchellia was very content absorbed in their current activity, and when she was this happy, she always started to hum a little tune to herself.

Humming a soft melody that she made up as she went, she tried to fill in the places Sanqui left out, having switched to lime green to paradise blue then honeybee yellow in the short space of time. She liked the way the brighter colours stood out against Sanqui’s black.

Glancing up at Mommy when she said something, she blinked and paused in her colouring, looking down at the pictures on the page curiously, eyes wide and mouth slightly agape, crayon tip poised where she held it against the paper. “C for…cat?” she repeated thoughtfully, looking at the curved shape covered in scribbles then to the furry animal next to it.

Giggling at Sanqui’s loud whisper in her ear, she shook her head and uttered a soft “Nuh-uh,”

The way he’d said things had confused her. Her lips turned into a small frown and she reached out a finger uncertainly, placing it on the animal. “This cat?” she inquired of whoever cared to answer her. But then, something clicked. If that was a ‘cat’, then the weird curvy shape must be…

Putting her finger on the half circle shape and tracing it gently from the top, she piped up again. “…This C?” She was almost sure of it.

Tori watched the twins as they tried to piece together the picture with the letter. It appeared to her that Ixchellia was grasping it a bit quicker than Sanqui. She didn't think it was a learning curve type of thing but more a lets do what we want.

She placed her hands on theirs that were coloring. She wanted to get their completed and full attention. "Ixchellia you're heading in the right direction," she said as she moved her hands. "C," she pointed and traced the letter, "is for cat," she pointed to the animal next to the C.

"This is a C in sign language," she took Ixchellia's hands first and formed a C. She did for Sanqui next before doing it with her own hands.

Sure they were starting with the third letter in the alphabet but she figured what the hell you had to start somewhere... even if that meant the third letter in instead of the first.

Oh he got it, all right. He was just being difficult! Humming a bit as Ix put it all together, he stopped coloring the main page and started making a bunch of odd looking C's. Only way to truly ingrain it into one's skull was to do it a lot. "C... c.. k.. cookie!" He looked up at her, hoping he was right. "Cookie is C too?" He still wanted to doodle some more but Tori had taken his hand by now and was shaping it into a c. He didn't even say anything that Ix was picked first, as she was always picked first whenever Tori did something with them.

Tilting his head a bit, he wondered what sign language meant but figured she'd explain it to them sooner or later. "So... what's the first letter if C is third?" He had been paying attention to what she had been telling them.

“Ah?” When Tori placed her hand on hers to halt all movements, Ixchellia stopped still and turned inquiring red and green orbs up to Tori’s face, her mouth forming a small o shape of surprise.

Fist curling more closely around her handful of crayon, she unthinkingly applied a little too much pressure and there was a soft ‘click!’ as the wax colouring stick snapped in two. “Aww~…” The toddler momentarily looked down to see the broken halves with a small sound of dismay. Poor crayon. She didn’t mean to…

However, Mommy was talking again and…ohhh…she was getting this right! A warm flutter of accomplishment bubbled up briefly inside her and Ixa’s frown melted.

Even if it was something small, getting things right felt really good. “C for cat!” she chirped back, parrot fashion, looking where Tori pointed on the page then mimicking her actions. She may not have looked it but she was a fast learner.

When one of her hands was taken and gently manoeuvred into a C shape, almost too predictably, the titters started up again.

“Keeheehee! C for…for - hee hee!…uh…” she paused a moment, looking thoughtfully at her hand while still holding it in the position.

“Cu…Cup!” she finally announced, smiling proudly. There! If Sanqui could think of a ‘C’ word, she could too.

At his mentioning of other letters, she swept scattered crayons off the page they were currently on and began turning the book’s pages carefully, trying not to pull too hard and tear any. “More…more like this?” She wanted to learn more of these ‘letters’ things.

"Cookie, Cup, and Cat are all words that start with C. Another C word would be chair," she chuckled. She was glad that they were starting to get more interested in learning the alphabet. It was rather amusing to watch as things clicked in place in their minds.

"A is the letter that starts off the alphabet. Alphabet starts with A as does apple, accident, absolutely, and acting," she grinned. She picked words she figured her kids would recognize, or at least hoped they would.

"A," she said as she took her finger and traced the out line of the capital a. "There is an apple on the page," she smiled. "Apples can be red or green," she added in case they wanted to color in the picture... Though she probably should have taken into account that they were going to pick whatever color they wanted to.

With her hand she made an A in sign language. She'd wait to mold her kids hands until they'd grasped what she just pointed out.

He was trying to think of other c things. Chair.. okay.. he was trying to get his brain to filter it all like it needed to be. It made sense when mum verbally told them what things were but seeing the lines on paper and trying to figure it out made everything seem that much more... complicated. Seemed kinda silly to him, but he didn't make the way of the world. He just had to make sense of it.

When Tori moved the coloring book page to a, his brow shifted. Well why didn't she start there? But.. it was a minor worry to him anyhow. "Oooh accident!" He was good with that word! Setting down his black finally, he picked up a shade of green and worked on coloring in the apple. "Does this mean we'll get apple pie later?" He was only teasing, mainly since it was in his nature. Humming as he worked on attempting to make the letter A, he waited for the sign part.

Looking up as she did so, he paid attention and then put down his crayon to try it himself. It looked funny and he cheated by using his free hand to help get his little fingers into the right order, but he stared really hard at Tori's hand and kept trying. He wanted to show he could learn things just as easily as Ix could! "Like 'hat?"

Chair? Sh…Ch…chair? Ixchellia repeated the word in her head, wondering how in the world the letter ‘C’ sounded in chair. She didn’t understand fully all the hard and soft sounds letters could make yet, though she would gradually grasp them better once she had the basic knowledge of the alphabet. For now, she would just have to believe what Mommy told them, which she had no problem doing because, well…Mommy knew everything.

Listening to more of what was said, Ixi paid close attention, her brow furrowing slightly as she thought it all through, blinking occasionally in moments of confusion. “A for axe-indent!” she giggled, giving a sidelong glance at her brother, watching him choose a different crayon. “Ab…abso…slutely…apple…axe-indent,” she tried out, linking the words with the familiar sound at their beginnings.

Leaning over the A shape, she copied Tori’s actions again, tracing the letter where her Mom’s finger had been. “It’s like aaaah, hey Mommy?” she questioned, choosing out a red crayon and starting to colour the apple too.

“I’m colouring red. Sanqui, move your arm outta way!” There was a place on the page which she couldn’t reach without having to put her arm over the top of his in an awkward position. Oops, hold on, she was forgetting something - “Please.” Ixi tacked on quickly, hoping she hadn’t sounded too bossy. She knew she had to use her manners.

Yayyy, he was moving his hand away now. And now he was…not colouring anymore. Ixchellia frowned sadly. She hadn’t meant to be mean. He didn’t have to stop colouring just because...ohhh, Mommy was showing them something again. So that’s why.

“Ah...that A?” she guessed, holding her free hand up and trying to copy her. This time, her brother seemed to be getting the sign language faster than she did.

"Yes we can do apple pie later," Tori grinned. If the incentive would help them get through this then she was all for cooking them an apple pie. She could always use a sugar substitute or less sugar. Apple were healthy. So over all the choice was better than candy or cookies.

"You're on the right track," Tori smiled as she gently helped mold her sons hand the rest of the way so that it made the shape of an A. "Yes, accident. You two should know all about those," she chuckled.

She raised a brow when she thought she heard Ixcheillia demand her brother move his arm, but then manors shortly followed and she relaxed again. She decided not to say anything since her daughter had quickly corrected herself. Just about to say something about paying attention was when Ixcheillia caught up with them. She half wondered if she was trying to give her brother a head start on this letter.

"Goody job you two!" She moved her hands so that she could help Ixchellia make the letter A. "You two are very smart." She felt praise was important because it helped boost confidence when learning something new.

"Whoo! Apple pie!" When it came to sweets, the boy had already come up with ways of getting around Tori's little lack of sweets rule. Sure, he knew healthy was best from growing children, but Alice said that having a little bit of sweets were also important. Or else, how does one learn self control? Or something like that. Sometimes she spoke of words that he somewhat understood but truly didn't. But the thought of getting to have apple pie made him happy cause he did love apples. And watermelon, oh yes. But it wasn't time for watermelon, sadly. However, he pushed that thought away as little images of apple pie floated in his minds eye and he hummed 'piiiie.. apple pie.. oh yeah!' to himself. It pleased him that he was close to what Mum had done so when she had molded it properly, he stared at it hard before he purposely released his hand and then worked on not only reforming it, but also 'c'. He would practice it all until he got it. Even if he had to stay up past bedtime.

Somewhere he had heard Ixi tell him to move his arm out of the way and he blinked a bit. Move? Why?! Even with the please, he didn't get it. Looking down, he saw what she was up to and he got it. Oh, she wanted to color his apple? .... why? His eyes narrowed a bit, and the red one glowed faintly. There were two apples on the page... ah well, whatever. It wasn't a big deal or nothing. When it came to Ixi, she could most likely get away with anything to him... probably. but he had noticed the look on Tori's face and he heard a low hiss in his ear from Belha. Heh mum would have so gotten on her about the 'manners' thing... but just then, images... sounds of something.. flooded his head and he blinked a bit. Odd.. why did he hear Mum? Was she mad? Well.. whatever.

His chest puffed up at the praise and he grinned cutely. "'Course we are! We're always smart!" He waited a bit before he got impatient and reached for his sister's hand. "'Cuse me, Mum. I wanna show her... I got it!" Taking Ixi's hands gently, he shifted her to face her and he showed her how to do it. "See? Yer as good as me!" He then looked at Tori and grinned more. "Next letta, please!" His speech wavered from time to time and since he was excited, he was slipping into what just felt right to him.

“Apple piiiiie!” Ixchellia yelled delightedly, giving a rather dramatic gasp. Sweets and cakes were quite rare in their house, so when they did get some it was a real treat. “Hm!” Her face took on a look of resolved determination and she sat up a little straighter, clenching her fists (and accidentally snapping another crayon which was still clasped in her left hand). Now there was the possibility of pie in this lesson, she would study harder than ever.

Her resolved look was broken up momentarily when she heard her mom’s praise; a large watermelon smile stretching across her face as she giggled happily, nodding emphatically at Sanqui’s words. They were both smart! That was good to know. Maybe one day they would know as much as Mommy. Perhaps even more! She couldn’t quite imagine it though. Mommy had been alive for aaaaages.

When Tori bent to help show her how to make the A symbol, Ixi obediently let her hands go as floppy as spaghetti noodles, trying to keep her fingers and hand held in the right position. ‘A’ was fairly simple. Mind you, it would have been nice if she could figure out where to place her thumb. Placing it under the fingers was uncomfortable…placing it over them felt weird. She tried raising her fingers and curling her thumb under the tips so that her tiny nails pressed down against the top of it and that was super uncomfy. Ixchellia huffed a soft sigh of frustration.

Her red-green gaze slid over to Sanqui, checking to see how he made the shapes and whether she was doing it right. She noticed he was signing not only A but C as well. Amazing~!

Looking down at her hands, she raised her right in the air and tried shaping the C again, only backwards. Did C work backwards? Hmm…it looked kinda funny. Then, unexpectedly, both hands were grabbed by her brother and he too showed her how to make the letter signs. Ohhh, so that’s where she was meant to hold her thumb. Now she got it. Ixa made a pleased little keening noise and hugged Sanqui whether he wanted it or not, being careful not to get too close to Belha. “Thank-u Ki~!” she chimed.

Peeking up at Tori, she agreed with her twin. “Weah, new lettah now Mommy!” Oops…quick, stick a ‘please’ on there. “…please”
