I've told my friends that I've been taking meds to help me, because my psychiatrist(s) classified me as someone with Asperger's Syndrome. And a few people say "Medication is for people that don't wanna solve their own problems" and stuff like that. One said "As much as you love God you shouldn't be taking those drugs" That got me thinking, he has a point. I dunno, what do you think? Cuz that made me think... I dunno whether I'm taking them because it's what my psychiatrists want or what God wants.
Anyways, what's your opinion? Should I be taking the meds as a Christian?

Please hit the next person who tells you that only people without faith take medication for me. Hard.
By the way, the answer is yes, you should be taking meds. Our body is a temple and we can't really be glorifying God if we deliberatly let that temple fall into disrepair.
Besides, you have asperger's. That, I do believe, is something you are born with. It's not like you're using the meds to avoid a problem.

But if it's something I was born with shouldn't I trust in God for it not to ruin me instead of taking meds?

Insanitys Child But if it's something I was born with shouldn't I trust in God for it not to ruin me instead of taking meds? There's a difference between trusting God and using Him as an excuse to ruin yourself. After all, if you follow that logic, then doing just about anything that involves initiative is not 'trusting in God'. You should be thankful that God made you priviledged enough to have your condition treated by these medications.

I myself am already sick of taking the meds. They like, drain me. I guess I just gotta get used to em. I dunno if they've been helping me or not. Then again, I'm oblivious to those things.

I have a problem with depression. With out paxil I would not have a job. I stay on it and my workers respect me and will do what I ask. I do a better job because I take meds.

I went to a doctor who told me once...that there are some jehova witnesses that will not allow their children to have blood tranfusions because the parents they think it's vampiresism. Without the transfusions...the children died. That's how he descriibed my parents...but God has given us things to help us. Please...don't not take your medicine because you think God will save you. That's not faith..that's foolishness. I'm penacostal and i've seen things like that happen...and it's sad -_-. I'm not saying it doesn't...God does miracles. But sometimes you have to use the tools that God gives us smile

I've had friends on both ends of the spectrum.
First, ask God to heal you. Only stop your meds if you really feel like God wants you to.
One of my friends was given drugs because she was thought to be schizophrenic. She got better, but not because of the meds. There were a lot of toxins in her blood for some odd reason...I still don't quite understand it myself.
Another one of my friends was prescribed ADD meds, but she stopped taking them. Indeed, she has problems focusing, but she's really gotten a lot better with it as the years go by because she's leaned on God to teach her how to live differently. She stopped her meds because she didn't feel that God wanted her to take them.
So, ask God to clarify what He wants for you. =) As a Christian, you should do what God tells you.
