There are a few reasons we can think of. And seeing as no one else responded to this, I shall. First and foremost, what we think in terms of domesticated animals may have at one time been "wildlife." So that in and of itself provides us an answer that we could use these animals for food, clothing and items of trade. And we have, throughout history. From Native Americans to early European nomads we see this as a trend.
Moving on, if one species of wildlife, no matter how "cute" and "beautiful" they may be should grow out of proportion to an acceptable population; they may turn to becoming hazardous to our everyday sort of lives and further still begin to encroach on other species' lives and territories. Maybe going so far as to kill some of them and diminish their populations. Granted this is the nature of things, but if it can be prevented with our attention I think it should be so done. I mean, around here we have deer season often. It can get pretty bad, driving at night and seeing as many as six or seven cross at one time. And I'm living in a small town in the Midwest of the U.S.! So take some time to think about that.
These are just two reasons to offer at the moment. Others may include but are not limited to: Prevention of disease, rabid animals, destruction of our livestock and crops. Just a few more ideas.
