~Van's Proving Arena~
The one location in the Gouma-Den accessible to those within it that has no direct parallel in the actual town of Inaba. The Proving Arena is a large coliseum built over the widest point of the Samegawa River in town in the fashion of an old gladiatorial stadium. The Arena is, however, equipped subtly with much of Van's technology to ensure that what happens within remains wholly under his watchful eye and, if necessary, control.
The Proving Arena is a center where Van himself places people that he would like to see duel one another in order to study them more directly. Conversely, 'CHALLENGE!'s can be held within the Proving Arena when they are issued, should the two parties prefer it. Any victory within the Proving Arena generally yields a good reward for use inside and/or outside of the Gouma-Den.
On occasion, there may be an enemy placed within the Gouma-Den to test oneself against in what will be called a 'Specialty Battle'. Often these will be highly difficult, nigh-impossible to win, and should only be undertaken with an understanding of this. Sometimes, however, it is possible to be victorious. The Fire Brand, Haoul Yamakaji Haoul looked around the area, surprised. Where exactly was he...and just..what was going on? His Atma brand shined under his shirt, as he shifted, knowing it wouldn't be wise to stay powerless at the moment. Something about the area just made him tense. However, he licked his lips at the same time. He was so ready to get some fighting in at this point. His signature heat flared around him as he grinned devilishly. Woe betide whomever appeared near him first.

(Hiitan Blaze?)
Kai "Geirin" Kuzunoha
"There you are." An all too familiar voice called, Haoul being the recipient of the unexpected tone. When the firebrand got a chance to turn, he'd see his all too familiar, if not creepily so, former lieutenant. "What? You'll look stupid if you just stand there gawking. So how did we get here, Captain?" The girl walked forward a bit, glancing to one side for a moment and then the other, trying to find an exit or such. A telltale stretch followed that Haoul could probably remember all too well from his hotheaded lieutenant, an arm behind her back as the pep seemed to return. "Maaan, just when I was on the tail of those Yatagarasu thugs too. If I get my hands on 'em, I'll fry 'em." She said, clutching the other fist and grinning toothily, a phantom from Haoul's life. A phantom from the real world. But in Van's world anything could happen, even someone coming back from the dead. If Haoul remembered that clearly, then there'd be nothing left but confusion...or trust. Either way was fine for the fiery red headed lieutenant, now that this figure was back from the dead.

The Fire Brand, Haoul Yamakaji Bad idea. That's the only thing that could be used to describe the plan that must have crossed into the head of the person who decided to imitate a figure of the dead. Haoul didn't know a thing about Van, or the world they'd been brought into. Hence, the confusion he had. And as such, a Primal force went to tear straight through the girl as he lunged at her, snarling. "Faker." He called, sharply as he aimed a claw at the girl, "I'll tear you to pieces, fry them up, and devour them for breakfast, whoever you are." Very bad idea.

Kai "Geirin" Kuzunoha
He got sloppy. That's what Kai thought with an unpleasantly enthused grin when Haoul attempted to use Primal Force on him, the demon Siegfried appearing before Haoul and taking the attack point blank, with no effect. While it had driving power, Siegfried's hands rapped around the one that Haoul had extended to attack and thus managed to avoid being driven out of range, instead using it's enormous strength to stay deadlocked with the Embryon. The High Counter that guarded Siegfried did an even better job, sending a whip of power lashing back into Haoul's face to stun the man. That was his second mistake, the first being letting his rage get the better of him at the pseudo-lieutenant's presence, while Kai had summoned both his demons in his hidden hand; using the Dark Realm, he'd hid them for this ambush just as easily, a Kuzunoha specialty. Using that skill demons were immune to harm, and could move distances instantly, though it telegraphed itself a bit; but Haoul was far too focused to have realized that. "You're right, this form smells like a hussy. She'll probably be better off dead." Kai said as he remembered facing the girl, though he was unaware of her recent death, while dissipating the form. If Haoul thought his only worry was releasing his arms however he had no idea, as a tall and intimidating former warlord slammed into Haoul from behind shoulder-first, pincering him between the two legends Siegfried, and the figure from the 999th floor of the Kuzunoha Sealing Hall, Masakado. "Our lord demands your sacrifice. No hard feelings." It said with a sarcastic smile, Haoul being literally held down by two demons. Any other time he was a man who could burst outwards with fire and power, but against these two...well, it would be a test of his metal.
A test that Kai had no intention of giving him, as a sword thrust beneath Siegfried's arm immediately after the Primal Force was blocked, directly into Haoul as Masakado's surprise assault forced him into the Norse legend's grasp further, the sassy Captain literally caught between a rock, and a hard place...and this deathtrap included the weapon capable of slaying gods and dragons, meant to strip Haoul of all his vitality in one go. "Embryon's existence is a nuisance." Kai stated caustically, waiting to see if his opponent even had the mobility, or the will to escape now from the deadly trap.

The Fire Brand, Haoul Yamakaji Well, Haoul knew it couldn't be that easy. It was rather annoying that his own Primal Force hadn't done anything to the demon. However, as the demon grabbed onto him, he grinned. "Bad idea.." he called, as he brought his other hand to the Demons, and flipped the Demon over his shoulder into the other Demon, having it take the brunt of the tackling attack. "I'll have to clip your wings, you damned Crow." he called as the air around him turned unbearably hot, a Ragnarok Spell coming down on Masakado. Haoul wasn't going to let himself be knocked around by someone who had to rely on demons to do the fighting for him. Especially when they were both at least at the same power.

Kai "Geirin" Kuzunoha
That was easy, Kai thought, as the sword stabbed through Haoul's armor and straight into his upper body. Sure the two demons provided a powerful distraction, and Haoul had proved himself stronger than Siegfried, or at least someone with better understanding of leverage, but in the end even an Embryon's armor couldn't take a direct stab from a Kuzunoha's blade. "I don't think you've heard of me, have you? I'm the rising Phoenix, and even Hell's flames aren't scorching enough to burn me." Kai said as he skidded backwards after leaping away, the sheer heat from Haoul's body causing him to break out in a sweat a bit, though nothing more severe than the forbidden battleground where Kuzunoha had fought Fiends, with only lava to greet cowards who wanted to run away. On the other hand, Haoul had a blade sticking through his chest, and to most people that would be an instantly fatal wound.
To a demon like the Embryon however, Kai knew it wasn't going to be enough, though it would give him another big advantage now. "Siegfried, return!" Kai shouted as the demon disappeared from atop Masakado, returning to the green light that shone from his tube as it was sealed away again. To his side Suzaku began to appear, but the summoning process was much too slow for it to be useful immediately. That was where Masakado came in, vanishing from it's spot on the far side of Haoul where the Fire Brand had left it, and reappearing beside Kai, who wasn't going to leave the demon hanging quite yet. "Myriad Arrows!" Kai ordered sternly, pointing his sword towards Haoul. If the Fire Brand wanted to prove his strength, then first he'd have to brave Kai's assault, with the severe wound holding him down already. Masakado's face didn't change as the arrows shot down from the sky, summoned by the Demon, in order to eliminate their foe.

The Fire Brand, Haoul Yamakaji Haoul winced as he felt the blade get stabbed into him, though the heat around him simply fired up more as he clenched the blade, and pulled it back out. "Not bad, Crow." Haoul called, clearly making no motion to refer to Geirin by his Nickname. "Though the power of Hades runs through me. I won't submit to the likes of you." Even as the Arrows came down on him, Haoul refused to let the Kuzonoha get the better of him, and as he glared, he thought. The Captain decided to simply charge at the Summoner himself as he started away, before raising his Claws to send a Wave of Flames through the Demons and summoner present, A Maragilao Spell. Though the fire bird wouldn't take damage more than likely, his goal was the Summoner himself as he launched towards him, figuring that if he took him out, then it'd all be over. He raised a claw again, aiming to impale the summoner with them unless he swapped his demons out again.

Kai "Geirin" Kuzunoha
Attacking the Summoner was without a doubt the best way to take down a Kuzunoha. Even if his demons were to take the blow for him, the Maragilao was strong enough to still singe Kai quite a bit...and that wasn't the case, unfortunately. The Devil Summoner raised his weapon as a long green shaft of spiritual energy appeared, his blocking pose helping to reduce the damage a bit. The attack was a good opportunity to draw his demons into the Dark Realm to protect them from damage, but instead Kai used the split second for him alone, while Masakado winced as it took another attack, clearly beaten heavily from Haoul's strength. Kai opened his eye as the flames faded, the red demonic warrior closing in on him with it's claws aimed at his chest. It was just as Haoul made for his own impalement that a brilliant rainbow of feathers moved in the way, Suzaku taking the strike after the flames had failed to effect it. The bird let out a screech as the Captain tore a hole through it, one which instantly sent the demon crashing to the floor on the side.
Only a small distance existed between Kai and Haoul, but it was as clear as day as the feather moved like slow motion from his view and to the side, the body on Haoul's arm likely tugging him just a bit, though it was hard not to be distracted by something like that. But it was enough, Kai thought with his own demonic grin and his elbow bending down from the blocking stance he'd taken a second ago. The blade turned from a vertical block to it's side, aiming straight for the heart of his enemy again. Haoul likely wasn't too distracted to noticed this, a weapon aimed at him again before his eyes, but what he wasn't going to expect was the lightning speed. "See you in hell, fizzle." Kai's grin gave away every bit of confidence he had as the blade thrust forward, but not at the speed Haoul expected. Instead a green energy formed along it, turning the sword into a spear formed using the Kuzunoha's magnetite, and a dozen piercing strikes suddenly shot forward at Haoul's chest, likely to tear apart what was left of his torso and finish the fight in one go.
To top things off, Masakado had recovered behind Kai just as quickly, with it's wounds much less visible due to the tremendous aura demons gave off, though it was merely a bluff. The demon's hand shot forward, a telltale sign of it casting a spell. The Power Charge improved it's might as the god-like being prepared for a second coming, in case Suzaku's sacrifice was insufficient for the finish.

The Fire Brand, Haoul Yamakaji Haoul scowled as he tore through the bird, rather annoyed that something again had gotten in his way. As the Kuzonoha blocked and started with a Weapon, Haoul raised his other arm to cover himself as the sword was turned into a spear. Wondering just how many blades the Kuzonoha had, he felt as he started to suddenly attack at Haoul, thrusting with a lot of strikes with his magnetite spear. A powerful blow indeed. Had it been anyone without Haoul's Enduring Soul, they might have been enough. However, Haoul being strong willed as he was, was not felled by the strike. Rather, he seemed Renewed by the strikes, the trademark heat around him having picked up as he raised a hand. "I'll book you a room, Crow." He called sending a Ragnarok spell to engulf the Kuzonoha in searing flames.

Kai "Geirin" Kuzunoha
Teeth grinded uncomfortably hard as Kai noticed Haoul's demonic energy begin to renew itself, the aura he gave off already fairly intimidating for someone who claimed to be human. "Get up you stupid bird!" Kai commanded as the Ragnarok came at him, rolling to the side as the flames passed, his shirt catching fire as it and his arm took some of the damage before he could move. The seemingly crushed Suzaku laying near Haoul began to force itself up, able to Endure quite a bit, and let out a shriek as it cast a Diarama on the Kuzunoha controlling it. Tearing the tattered clothing away quickly and using what he had on hand to rap his arm left Kai well aware that Haoul would feel more confident, but it was too soon to be getting hasty. "Good. And I'll be sure to save a space on my wall for your hide." Kai laughed cockily, the Embryon likely curious as to his confidence.
Haoul might have tried to close in the distance after his Ragnarok too, if he were fighting one on one. The moment his spell left his hand, Masakado raised it's blade again, and before Haoul could recuperate a Tempest Slash came hurtling towards him, the former Japanese Conqueror stepping in between the Captain and Summoner. "I will be the one to end this fight." Masakado said as the blades struck, the Power Charge he'd used last turn making the attack more than deadly enough. Even a Captain would have trouble dividing his attention too many ways, and as Suzaku rose from the ground nearby, the Fire Brand might have realized he was surrounded again. While Kai knew that Suzaku hadn't recovered at all, Haoul's reliance on fire moves made it a great asset; and with foes on all sides, any bad moves by Haoul could leave himself wide open.

The Fire Brand, Haoul YamakajiAs the Crow managed to flutter out of blast from an almost impossible range with but an arm singed in the heat that had melted several other People whole, Haoul managed to easily endure the hit from Kai's Demon. By no means a lovetap, but far from as Deadly as the Kuzonoha might have thought. "We'll see about that." Haoul called as he Crossed his arms, before letting out a Powerful Heat Wave Attack. Slamming into The Kuzonoha that eluded him, the warrior demon that struck him, and the poor fire-bird that had started to try to get back up. After the shockwave was let out, Haoul started to dart around, keeping his eyes on the Kuzonoha and Masakado as he moved. He wouldn't be able to run from the grip of Hades forever.

~:Uesugi Kenshin, the Goddess of War:~ A figure stood poised in the Arena, her sword tip-down against the ground as she calmly stared forward, an aura gently surrounding her... Kenshin was somewhat interesting in that she had one of the least changing transformations in all of Atma. Most went straight into the area of monstrous shapes, but her outward appearance simply seemed to be surrounded by an aura of rather impressive power. And so he simply waited for her opponent, carefully gathering her power inside of her, ready to unleash on her foes. The 'Ravager' of the Devil Kings, Kenshin was known for one thing in particular... and that was being able to fight and cause damage to pretty much any opponent. With the divine power of JUSTICE, evil would not triumph this day! Now, science, on the other hand... would probably be able to benefit somehow. None of which would do a thing to change the outlook of the Devil Kings' member voted "has a stick furthest up it" in reference to how hard-headed she could be about her job. Not like the party animals (heh) that populated the group otherwise... it was her task to bring peace to Japan, even if that meant she had to overthrow the Emperor and the Government alike in order to do it!

Yoshizo Yoshimura My arm is the arm of the dark oneMy shield is the power of the shadow
A ghostly wail passed through the proving ground, the sound was like gravel grating and violent to anyone's ears who heard it. Then the sound cut away, for a moment all was silent but then a sharp cackle cut through the air. A young man, thin and pale with nails like claws and teeth sharpened to points materialized from the shadows. Brining one finger up against his cheek he stared at the woman who stood a good 10 paces away. "We see the toad...but this is not the swamp." As he began to speak Yoshizo, the mad toad killer, dragged his clawed nail down his cheek the blood following the line in which he pulled the claw. With a soft and silky sigh Yoshizo reached to his side and withdrew his sword. No reason to give this toad the fun of seeing the true form of the toad killer yet. Yoshizo bared his teeth to the woman and then dropped into a prowling stance as though at the slightest moment of movement he would be pouncing. He may have seemed thin and weak but an aura surrounded him that spoke of the many atrocities he had committed. The dark haired maniac loved to play with toads but... well he seemed to be breaking his toys much more than they broke him these days.
