So DQIX had this pretty awesome feature of fully customizable party members, huh?

Unfortunately, if you were like me and started with Dragon Quest 8 and the colorful crew that was Yangus, Jessica, and Angelo, these strong and silent companions are... a bit lacking in the personality department.

So, the natural thing for me to do would be to meet the game halfway and make up personalities FOR them! So along with dear Eloria, I have The Fall Guys: Brand, Leon, and Adrian.

Brand happens to be the big brawlery guy. He wears big armor, has a big sword and will never, ever shut up. He's a bit of an idiot, but the way he rattles his mouth is unbelievable.

Leon likes to cast the spells that makes the peoples fall down-- and Brand will never, ever leave him alone. Much to his displeasure. He's tiny and short, peevish, and so deadpan he would make the snarkiest brit blush in embarassment.

Adrian was going to be one of those saving priests, but he got kind of shunted because he's unabashedly a daredevil. He never gets angry or sad, and treats leaping into battle just the same as buying groceries-- with gentle eyes and a kind of frozen smile. It's kind of creepy but he's harmless... with a penchant for really, REALLY loud clothes.

But yeah!

Did you guys make up some kind of personality for your perambulatory Celestrian's posse, and if so-- procceed with the parlay?

And if not... why?

I did the same thing. I'll definitely used my party-inspired-personas in the RP, once I get around to setting up the thing when my lungs aren't on fire.

In essence, this is my posse:

Nelson was a warrior, but he is now a paladin and the tank of the group. He's a tall, slim guy who uses lances to fight. He's pretty smug, but not outwardly so. He just knows in his head that he's the right man for the right jobs. He is infatuated with the martial artist, Donna, and is trying to teach her more defensive, less reckless tactics, mostly due to him worrying.

Joseph is a priest (sage, now), and as such, he is a very pious and spiritual man. Despite their connotations, he is also the most level-headed of the group. However, his voice never breaks an octave, and he sounds and looks like he is perpetually bored. This leads to a lot of confusion as to how he feels. It's just how he is.

Just to put yourself into my head, say this out loud in the most drab, boring voice you can:

"I see it within you. The divine flame that burns like a fire in your eyes. You are not lying. I believe that you truly are the instrument of The Grand Architect's rule, a messenger to bring the mortal flock back to prosperity in this no-doubt harshest of times. A true devout will not ask for payment, but will simply follow the signs that the Almighty puts forth. I will trust you, William. For it is truly an honor and privilege to be graced with a fraction of His greatness alone"

Donna is a combat specialist, who takes pride in her physical form. She is an agile martial artist who prefers to use a pair of claws above all else. She is quite pretty, and her fit, toned form never fails to turn heads. She usually doesn't notice nor care, since she's got eyes for Nelson only. She lets Nelson help her, but is reluctant to change the fighting style that has given her life shape.

I based mine on characters from the other series xD although they really should have let guys have long flowing hair, it was weird for Laurent to have shoulder-length hair, or even for Hassan to have a skinny body frame. >.> But I looked surprisingly like me (is weird like that and has a tendency to name the heroes after me.) The last one was Hoimin from Dragon Warrior IV, I just like him after seeing a fan (?) made song about him.

I did to make it more fun and for making up my own small stories out of boredom. XP

Alongside Hydro I have:

Veira is a skilled knight from Stornway that was sent to aid Hydro in defeating the Wight Knight. She joined him on his travels after to learn more skills and show off her strength. Veira only knows one word in battle and that's overkill. She will constantly use unneeded moves to finish foes and will even make them go berserk for a better challenge.

Selphie is a demoness who met Hydro while he was fishing. She was originally going to devour their souls but fell in love with Hydro even though he completely ignored this attraction on their travels. nearly all of her equipment is cursed and she relies on darkness to heal her friends and also instantly kill anyone that gets in her way.

Glaud is a king who supposedly killed in battle by his brother to defend his throne. The unconscious king's coffin was pushed out to sea and later found by Hydro and co while training to take on the Gittish Empire. He joined them in hopes of finding his kingdom and getting revenge on his brother.

I just make them whine when we are on an elaborate quest. It ends up like the jersey shore house with everyone mad since I have an overpowered gladiator or marshal artist who attacks first and kills the enemy. She's prevented me from completing some quest and now she is a thief.

Edit: sometimes when I was younger my sister would watch me play 8 and she came up with a crazy story about munchie getting married but he lost his wife on a cruise it was weird.

I'll be joining in on this.
Takahiro along with his adoptive brother Kai followed behind our hero from Angel Falls in hoping to join our hero in the journey. Takahiro is a intelligent yet a bit clueless boy, he may have a good heart but that has gotten him in trouble before.

Kai is the adoptive brother of Takahiro a quite one not much of his past has been talked about all he has said is that he was found outside by Takahiro with only a blanket and a box. Kai even though he will defend his friends he will only open to Takahiro no matter how much anyone has tried to get him to talk more.

Yuuta a priest in training from Stornway met up with our heroes after they suffered a major blow after the healing was complete Yuuta offered to join up and thus the team was complete. Yuuta though he is oblivious sometimes that causes his friends to get hurt, for if one lies about not being healthy that person would then have to listen to his long an winded music pieces on a accordion, Yuuta does tend to rush into things a bit too often.

Takahiro dark red hair glasses a bit thin amber eyes

Kai brownish-red hair messing a little thinner then Takahiro brown eyes

Yuuta short spikey hair blonde blue eyes a bit on the chubby side

Out of all of them Yuuta is the youngest and Takahiro is the oldest

Since I just recently got into the DQ IX fun, I'll also post in this thread. This is very neat. smile

First off, I named all my characters after our guildies/fellow players.

Tiki is the healer of the group. She is strong, courageous, and not afraid to speak her mind. She also facepalms when her brother Kang gets into trouble that he otherwise shouldn't have (since they had the same eye/hair color of dark brown and black-ish, they're siblings.), and doesn't take any of his crap. Unlike most traditional healers, she uses a spear and can deal some heavy hits of her own when not mending the party's owies. She's the determined type that can pull the fourth party member, Zayne out of his funks when he gets in them.

Kang is the martial artist of the group. He is loud-mouthed, brash, reckless, but has the skills to back up his arrogance. He has been training for a while, and got really excited when my Celestrian Lynn asked him to join the party. He and his sister often get into fights because of his nature, but he cares for her and the rest of his party in his own way. That usually means by beating the crap out of anything that threatens them. He has become a master of the deadly strike known as "critical hit". (for real, in game he crits 5/10 times and he's not even high leveled!)

Last, but not least, my mage, Zayne. (Love ya Belzayne. heart ) He is quiet, reserved, and really only following to try and help someone with his gift of magic. Often though, he lacks confidence, because he is a staff-wielder in a party of heavy-hitters. He is known to unleash bursts of magic when he's angry though. Beware the quiet, nice ones, guys.

All three of them are around the same age, 20's ish, and are all from Stornway since they met up at Erinn's inn.

Hassan and I are now related. CANON.

So if you were to write a fanfic about DQIX, would it be about us?

How have I not noticed this? Well time for me to post in here!

I started off with Dragon Quest III, though I moved on later to Dragon Quest VIII, so when I picked up Dragon Quest IX after getting it for Christmas I did not know what to expect. I tried it for a bit then forgot to save and it collected dust for a while.

SO! Four months later after getting the game, I popped it into my DS. I did not expect much and I knew I would play the game blind. But what did I find out? Well my brother spoiled the fact that there was a party planner, so I knew about that. Though I had fun with this. However I ended up doing something else. I made a few of my OCs as my party members. Mind so far I have only made my female OCs so yeah.

For my main character I have my Celestrian that is called Acele. Right now she is a force to be reckoned with. She is leveling up Swords and Guts as she is a mighty Gladiator! Although this does go against her original character design I had for her. She's not really a fighter, and would rather sit back and stay away from the fighting. Some things didn't go as well as I planned. But when she was a Minstrel she did not back down either! I love her too much. But we cannot forget this next class. She swapped on over to being a Ranger for a while and leveled up her bows and Ruggedness. While she did take some damage a lot, I found this class to fit fairly well since she was kind of in the back row doing damage.

Up next there is my Armamentalist Sylino! Originally formed as a Thief, she grew to be a fine young lady. Starting off with Daggers and Acquisitiveness, the way she got around people grew so fine. But there came a point in the game where I decided that I wanted to experiment with the classes. So she did switch over to a Martial Artist but I did not like that class too much. It didn't fit her type of being the person that is all for the center of the crowd. So I swapped over to the Armamentalist once I unlocked it. ((Damn Metal Slimes were ANNOYING to find. Took me a couple hours...even though I gave up a couple times.)) But once I did her time went through the roof. I enjoyed the spells she unlocked and of course the Coup de Grace. She really came in handy for me.

My third character is actually fitting for the two vocations she has been in. I have my Paladin Laela. She is the mighty shield that defends my other characters from damage. Starting out as a Priest, she grew with her Lance ranks and Faith. Even though it took me sometime to realize that Buff was a handy spell, she was able to do a lot of damage for me with her lances. Then switching her on to Paladin, she grew even more. The fact she could defend her allies with amazing defense was what I needed. She even kept up her work with lances!

Finally there is the last member of my group: My mage Alyss. She has stayed a mage the entire game and I have coddled and loved her. She has been really squishy and known to die, but I never gave up on her. I knew that her power would come in handy and the fact she was the fastest member on my team meant she could get off Accelerate to help my other members. Learning Bounce really helped as well since she would reflect magical attacks sent to her. She may have been hurt badly at the beginning, but right now she is my strongest contender and I cannot wait to change her class to the stronger version of mage!

So yeah that is my current team right now. I have no idea why I have not made any Male members yet, though I have a plan to do this later on in the game. I may be near the end, but I will experiment later.

New story update. Llinos is a childhood friend of one of the guards in storm way castle after she saved his life. The guy now is in the well looking for the mythril pick. Armin is a tavern man at patty's inn. He had to throw out all the unruly drunks. Sarah was a wandering martial artist who went to storneay looking for brusque lee. She has little sense of direction.
Sorry I haven't posted here in a while. I don't think anything I do is sane enough to be in fan fiction.

Not wanting to be a squishy mage anymore, Zayne has changed into an Armamentalist! So far, he deals a lot better damage, still uses a wand (not a staff, sorry about the confusion), and is able to give status effects to his enemies. The ability to wear heavy armor has boosted his confidence (and reduced his death rate) quite a bit, and he keeps doing his best to help the team.

However, trying to find metal slimes or the metal medleys is a pain. gonk

Tiki and Kang aren't thinking about a change of vocation, but my Celestrian might go Warrior in the near future.

@ Roto: Haha, I might write a fanfic about my DQ party, but I bet that's already been done. I was thinking about something involving Erinn and her father before he passed away. That would be sweet.

Since when has that stopped anyone from writing fanfiction?

But in all seriousness, don't worry. And seeing people further expand on their characters as they progress is fun. I'm glad to see you posting around more. Post as you can, no pressure. Though things will probably be a bit more active here in the coming months, as we all get out of school for the summer.

I actually haven't played in months. I've been addicted to Kirby mass attack and soccer.

I haven't played the game for a while now myself. I've been busy doing schoolwork and playing through other games in between. But characters are always fun to have around. And I will probably be picking up the game again eventually. So that I can talk about it more with people who have just picked it up over the summer.
