Doom Valley
Doom Valley is sheltered from the ocean by several lines of mountains, each sucking dry the moisture from the air as it is forced up their slopes. As a result, this land gets less than 3 mm of rain each year- if at all.
Scorched dry and baking, the land is a terrain of crisscrossing cracks, with only the most hardy of shrubs surviving. Within its heart is a vast salt field, three feet deep from centuries of minerals being washed into the valley. Water is sometimes present on the salt flats, but it is so saturated with the minerals it does more harm than good if you drink it.
The mountains on either side are filled with canyons carved from numerous flash floods, some wide that cut straight to the top of its hill, others barely two feet across, winding back and forth with many obstacles in the form of boulders.
When this place is raining, watch out; it rains hard, and flash floods are deadly if you are caught in narrow canyons. It is said that when this place is scourged by one of the rare rains, it comes to life with flowers more beautiful than anywhere else...
A crater within the salt flats is still visible, the meteorite that created it still sitting within its centre...
