At a certain point in every post apocalyptic movie or story with Dystopian themes, there comes a time when the civilization isn't worth living in any more. In Will Smith movies, it's usually after an explosion, whereas with someone like Mel Gibson, it's after one or more of his family members dies. In religious flicks, it's when frogs start raining, booming voices from above give instructions, or the moon/river turns to blood.
In your opinion, how do you know when it's time to get out? When do you pack your bags? When do you leave and "don't look back'

When do you pack your bags? When do you leave and "don't look back' by the time a booming voice tells you to do something its already to late but if you want to be honest the time when you pack your bags and leave is when people start going missing for no explanation and when the government no longers tries to protect it's citizens thats when you leave or more accurately when the tension is high and everyone starts feeling that sense of anticipation before something happens =p

I recall back in late 08 I said if the market hit 5000, it would be a good time to start packing because riots would soon follow. Last march hit 6626 so needless to say, it was a bit nerve wracking.
Basically, with these scenarios, you have to negotiate between "it's too late" and "things might get better". People say Obama is going to fundamentally transform America, and I agree. He's going to transform America into a Third World country and let China and Brazil take over as the new Bipolar Hegemony.

Personally, I'm gonna wait until the booming voice. Until then, I'm unloading on every zombie, infected, demon, or evil dude I can see.

I believe for people who expect such things, actually pay attention to what is happening in their general vicinity, or just have a decent intuition, the signs will point when necessary. Myself, I trust heavily on Nomadic life for when it happens, if it happens. As for when I would take my personal leave is when any sort of unusual activity starts, save for if it's obvious.

For example, to eat takes a farm, which can be seized by force, else you have to beg, borrow, or steal it. In the new economy, that might become surprisingly difficult. They installed another Biometric facility at my roommate's school - you can't get inside the new 'recreational' building without scanning your finger. Take that concept to the grocery store or gas station, and your mobility and access to food drop considerably.

I could say that I could live off of the many wild edible plants and hunt for my food, but I won't. Instead I'll fear the reaper. However, if you did indeed leave society behind, you're probably going to have a back up plan for those measures. Alcohol is fairly easy to brew and very useful. Most garden vegetables are fairly easy to grow and seeds are found plentifully in the areas surrounding many societies. Animals... they're everywhere, so feed off of them. Of course, you could try to beat the system too.. in which case good luck. Now I'm going to be thinking of a proper response all day..

Last night I read about Operation Payback in which Anonymous led an assault on the parties responsible for shutting down The Pirate Bay a few weeks ago.
I'm thinking that if the people are capable of such things when their pirated video games and movies are at stake then imagine what they'll be capable of if it's something more serious. The digitization of all aspects of society could be the downfall of the oppressors.

I may be taking this the opposite way than the original direction intended.

Pfft, as soon as I get my money right I'm leaving America.
Gonna buy me some land in a 2nd or 3rd world country and just chill.
Or just live in the Favelas in Brazil. With all my money stashed somewhere.

Why would you want to move out of civilization just to live a few more short years of misery?

Personally, I have been meaning to have a bag full of clothes in my car for me to leave quickly as possible whenever the day will come where I NEED to leave.
I know this isn't on as drastic of a scale, I have a sorta bad homelife, and am waiting for a scenario where I can just grab my computer, a few other devices, and haul a**.
I'd have to come up with a new username, however, lol. (feel free to DM me ideas, xD)
But yeah, I say, if you DO happen to have a car, it would be a good idea to have some clothes, and keep a fairly fresh stock of nuts/food and water in your car too, for the quickest fleeing.
But I agree with one of the first replies. When people start going missing for unexplained reasons, I'm getting out.

The rose in spring Why would you want to move out of civilization just to live a few more short years of misery? To hopefully live those few short years the way you'd choose to. If not, go down with a bang.
