With her cubs near-grown, Elua could wander off from the group for longer periods of time. She was never gone too long, but it was hard to meet new creatures and see new things if she ALWAYS stayed with the group. The cheetah took a deep breath, taking in the scent of the flower patch she'd found. Mmmmm...it was wonderful. A sweet scent, with an almost spicy undertone to it.
She flopped down and curled up in the flower patch, purring. Oh yes...this was definitely a good trip away from her family. She wouldn't have found this flower patch otherwise! And she wouldn't be able to take any home for her family (which she was definitely going to do!).

It was a marvellous thing, when it happened. The flowers would smell just right, the air would be just warm enough, and the surrounding sounds of the fragrant jungle would lull him into a very meditative state of mind.
Fjolnir really loved it when that happened. His mind would go blank, and he would feel like he was floating through the underbrush, and then, the song would come to him. It could be any song, whatever seemed to fit the current day or night, but it would come almost as if it was singing through him, rather than being sung by him.
He was in such a state of mind right now, humming a soft, but slowly rising song to himself as he moved through his territory. It was really such a pleasant experience that he could not help but smile, and the song subtly changed onto a brighter note.

A noise? Elua blinked, dark ears perking up as her head went up, orange eyes seeking the source of the sound. It was a very nice sound, sweet like the flowers she had laid down in. She stood, not seeing anything at first. And then she scented him before she saw him, the distance put between her nose and the flowers making a difference.
When she saw him, she smiled brightly. He was beautiful! A lion, most certainly, and colored like a flower himself! She couldn't help but be friendly and pipe up.
"Hello there! A beautiful day, isn't it?"

Fjolnir's song faltered and evaporated as a bright voice brought him out of his daydreamy state. He turned his head and blinked his yellow eyes a few times at the one who had spoken to him, but it still took him a little while to register what she actually looked like.
"Ah, yes..." Fjolnir smiled back at her, feeling a little sheepish at having been caught spacing out the way he had. "...Quite lovely. Enough to make a lion completely forget himself, I believe." He inclined his head to her apologetically. "I'm sorry I didn't notice you, I meant no disrespect."

Elua smiled sheepishly. Oops...she hadn't meant to rouse him. Just interact. She shook her head. "No disrespect taken. I'm sorry if I interrupted such a state." Hopefully, he wouldn't have too much trouble reaching such a state again. He had such a beautiful voice from what she heard.

"Oh, no need to apologize about that." His smile widened and he sat down, on one paw to look less intimidating (he was a pretty big and buff lion, and he knew it. Especially compared to a creature as lithe as a cheetah), and on the other to show her that she had his full attention - that he wasn't about to go anywhere.
"I can daydream at any time," he continued. "On the other hand, I don't get guests very often." Before she could say anything, he inclined his head into a small, humble bow. "I don't believe we have met before. I am Fjolnir, owner of this territory."
He hoped she wouldn't think he was accusing her of trespassing or anything, she seemed friendly and unthreatening enough - he just thought it polite to inform her in case she had missed the markings. It wouldn't be the first time: Sometimes they got old before he could get to refreshing them.

The sheepishness vanished, and she bowed her head. "My name is Elua. I am but a wanderer of the world. I'm afraid I missed your territory markings." He didn't sound upset...just informative. "If it's alright, I was hoping to take some flowers to my family when I left. I can offer tales of the world outside this patch of land in exchange, if you'd like?" She'd been so many places, that she had so very much to draw on.

Fjolnir smiled at her demure politeness, but is ears perked up when she mentioned tales, and his expression became noticably more eager, almost cub-like.
"Tales? I'd love to hear some! I don't leave here very often..." he trailed off and composed himself, scooting a little closer to Elua so that the atmoshpere between them would feel a bit more familiar and relaxed, and lowered his voice a little. "I would gladly let you take as many flowers as you'd want just for asking so nicely, but if you tell me a little about the world outside this jungle... maybe about gods, or faraway prides, or strange lands, or something... I'll sing for you in exchange. How does that sound?"

He was a VERY nice lion! Elua certainly liked that! She nodded brightly. "That sounds wonderful!" He reminded her a little of Sairin as he was now. And to hear a song...she so loved singing. And he had a wonderful voice, if earlier was any indication. "What sort of tale would you like? I've been many, many places...from the shores beside the great sea, to the dry desert, to thick jungles full of leopards!"

"Oh wow!" It was quite apparent that Fjolnir was pretty bad at hiding his emotions. His hindquarters rose slightly from the ground and his front paws moved excitedly, almost as if he wanted to take some dance steps. Instead, he looked around as if looking for inspiration. "Oh, I don't know... what to ask for... I've never really left the jungle, you see, I hardly know anything but what others have told me..." He paused for a while and his yellow eyes sought Elua's again. There was an unmistakable sparkle in them as he asked with a subdued voice:
"The ocean... is it really as vast and terrible and fantastic as they say it is? What does it look like? How does it smell?"

Elua's smile grew, and a sparkle entered her eyes. "The ocean is very vast, yes. And she can have quite the temper. But she can also be very gentle and inviting, lulling one to sleep with her steady voice." Elua closed her eyes, remembering. "When you look out at her, she's like a great lake you cannot see the other side of, with the sun shining on her surface causing her to sparkle. And she smells...like salt and water and freedom."
