User ImageThe fluorescent lights reminded him of the burning sun that shone down on the backs of the wandering group who had taken him in. Maxim stared up at the ceiling boredly,an arm laid across his forehead. The boy had skipped class and came here to think over his current predicament.

What was he doing here...? He belonged in the desert, not in this huge holding pen! The walls were suffocating him. The man let out an angry sigh as he shut his eyes in thought.

The bright lights flooded his vision as he went from the naturally lit world to the clinic with a frail student in his hands. How in the world did he get in this condition? The dwarf felt like he was holding nothing, nay, mere bones with skin. When was the last time he had eaten? "Ay, nurses? Doctors?!" He bellowed out, looking for any soul around that could care for the poor guy properly rather than a brute dwarf shoving meat down his throat. Still holding him in his arms, Droh peered around some curtains, still looking for anybody. Was it some sort of holiday? What about emergencies? Carefully setting the student down on one of the nice beds, the dwarf set about causing a ruckus, trying to find anyone around who might know a thing or two.

"Sir, please. Stop all that racket."

The dwarf reeled as he turned on his heels at the sound of the glorious voice of another being. Where had she been this whole time? "This 'ere student needs help ma'am. Now." Hearing an audible sigh as the female doctor got to work, Droh couldn't help but worry as he paced around, tinkering, to the doctor's dismay, with various trinkets around the clinic.

As the dwarf listened to the faint sound of the boy's heart beating, his breathing slow and shallow, the boy's usually cold skin grew warmer. His fear of the water had done well if he had stayed away from it, his immune system had weakened due to the constant lack of nutrients and sleep. But being a demon had its advantages. Upon having a weakened immune system only meant it would take a day or two to fully recover, unlike a human who would probably take from a week to half a month.
Due to his careless acts returning as bad habits he was stricken with sickness often, not that it last. It was like a small cycle; first long health, then forgetfulness and sickness, followed by long hours of rest and laziness before returning again to being at the top of his game. And once again, it was time for the Kitsune to rest for long periods, and get use to eating food again.
The strong scent of the earth stung his nose.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The frail boy's body curled up in the Gaki's arms. They were much the same, with their height being that much lower to the ground than others. But being of Japanese, and a fox demon, made his shortness that much more noticeable. The bumps and slight jostling as they ran didn't bother the sleeping kitsune, but the light as they entered the world of medicine and needles made the sick one shudder for warmth as the door sucked the cold air conditioned wind past them, drying him and freezing him to the bone. Although his skin felt like a normal human's, he wasn't use to the heat radiating from his skin, and fever started to kick in.

The soft touch of the hospital bed made the student curl to his side, gaining the cooling affect from the still air-conditioned blankets. It felt nice, but with the constant draining of energy by heating his cold body to rid himself of viruses and strengthen his immune system naturally made his form start to shift. His body became slightly larger, growing luscious black-tipped white fur and ears in place of hair and skin, his spine lengthening and splitting to total of nine tails. In only a few seconds the painless transformation had finished, his original body now working on completing what could not be focused on, seeing as his magic was working to keep his outer form in line, now it could change to his insides.

The skronny fox' thin tails lined up, spreading out behind him. Some falling to the floor or weakly overlapping others they were so long. But it helped circulate his body heat, lowering it to a more normal temperature. One of it's thin curled paws stretched out, the soft padding on the bottom of the fox's paws lightly pushing against something, a person by the bedside. Its claws much like a cats, which could contract slightly into the animal's foot to hide to sharp weapons inside. It wasn't an act of rejection or rebelliousness, but finding the presence he knew was there. The one who had smelled strongly of earth and books; the one who had carried him. His skin under the fur was a light shade of pink, his eyes opening slightly to the noises heard, its ear flicking back to block out the echoing voices as its empty eyes stared off into oblivion. Its eyelids then drooped back, leading it back to unconsciousness. A light "hurr"ing noise could be heard form the beast's throat, not quite the purring vibrations from a cat, but still holding the calm feelings one gets when knowing the worst of the storm can be seen in the distance.
The fever had dimmed and his body was back to normal, not that his strength and hunger pains had left him yet. Like checking any kind of animal, if you felt the fox's stomach you could feel his bones underneath a layer of muscle. But the ageless demon's mind wasn't on thoughts of getting better, the pain, or food, or even the past..

As a slight gasp was heard from the doctor, the dwarf nearly dropped a pair of tweezers from his nervous fingers as he turned around to see if something was wrong. But instead of seeing the frail boy, Droh saw a black-tipped white nine tailed fox. Where had he read of these before? It was some obscure book in the dwarven libraries he read long ago, but he remembered the picture. As if that would be any use. Trying to recall any information from said book, he felt the slight pressure at his side as the paws of the boy, er, fox pushed into him. Unsure if this meant he was in the way, or was unwanted, he decided to stay rooted in place. If he was really meant to get out of the way, he could push him harder. "Is he alright doctor?" Turning to the lady, he would hope she knew more about the different creatures of the school and their needs and whether or not this boy was okay.

"It appears he is doing better, now that he has shifted, but he does looks like he could use a decent meal perhaps. But only after his nap. You can handle this?"

The dwarf nodded eagerly as he stumbled about to find a faucet to get some water for the fox. He didn't know where to get food in the clinic, but a beverage would be a decent way to start. Thinking back to the beach, where he found the frail student, he sure hoped he didn't drink any sea water, as the salt would only add to the problem. "Aha." Picking up the cool, clear, but plain, glass, he turned the pristine faucet to allow the water slosh into the cup until it was nearly full. Careful not to spill a drop, and careful not to allow any of his beard hair get into the water by mistake, he came back to the bed, his packs rustling as he got over there to present the prize to the fox, holding it close to his nose.

The animal's fur glistened, excess water droplets shinning by the lights above in the ceiling. A headache plagued the beast, and the horrible taste of salt-water scrapping everywhere along it's throat and inside its mouth. Mitsuko had fallen head-first into the sea, which wasn't any good falling from such a height as he did. Mumbling of common, he believed, could be heard from his half-conscious mind. A blur of images and phrases from the past few minutes leading up to this point replaying perfectly in his mind, his eyes drearily opening from the small wake of unconsciousness until he fully surfaced, something dragging him down. His mind focused slightly, realizing he was on a bed, in a hospital of some sort in or around the school. His body still felt the rush of water and the pulling of the current against his humanoid-version of himself. His form completely shifted to that of his true shape. His eyes lazily went to his paws, his fur, the claws he extended from them before letting them hide. He missed this form, but he also missed thumbs, hand-to-hand-combat, and playing Silent Hill and Resident Evil.. heck even Pokemon and Kingdom Hearts.

His focus leveled to that of something else, the smell of water in small quantities. First far away, before it was close enough to his nose to completely obscure much of the other scents with it.. it startled him, nearly scared him as he jolted the front half of his body upright, tensing the rest and lightly lifting a few tails before relaxing. A chill completely fluffed his fur and let the last few droplets fall off his pelt, trapping the warm air as the hair settled. His light-gray eyes calming as they found the water not to be what it was, consuming him, and just in a small cup in the hands of a dusty-smelling earth-dweller.
He had heard of them before. Dwarfs, they had called them. He had often been teased of being one himself in Japan, which didn't much bother him except when they tried covering him in dirt.
He was at first fascinated by his rescuer, his eyes staring deeply into the other's own before his mind turned back to the task at hand. The fox was thirsty, and eagerly lapped up the cool tap water. Two things felt odd, one was the lapping. He hadn't been more fox than human sense a few dozen years or so when he fell ill and had to hide out in the woods for a time being or else get kicked out his own house and attempted to be whisked away by animal control or a vet. Secondly, it was odd one would want water after nearly drowning, but hearing of it online a few years ago, he now knew what they meant. The water cleared him of the dryness, but it still felt odd drinking water. He slowed before stopping altogether, his eyes drooping again, but managing to stay awake and upright with his paws laying on the edge of the bed as he laid the rest of his body sideways, a long tail curling up along his back, resting near the spot where he had placed his head before. Another followed, only halfway, crossing over the other slightly before curling back.
The fox was restless to go back to hiding from the world that so desperately wanted him to choose a side, but unable to stay awake long enough to grant himself enough energy to even move. He was sore already from the last few days, and the recent accident he had put himself through. He wished Malinois was better than he was.. But he know this not to be true. The doctors and nurses hadn't even let him in to see him each time he went to ask. He wanted to help, but didn't know how. As weak as he was now he could do nothing. Ever sense he had joined the school he had been nothing but a bother, something easily pushed aside and hardly recognized for what he was deep down.. and he learned not to trust people so easily. He knew he wasn't completely better, but he wanted to be. He needed to be. He needed to be stronger, at the top of his game all the time. No more laziness and lack of nutrients..
But that was not to be a full-proof plan..
The tailed fox was once more on its side, the headache finally catching up with thoughts and knocking him out. He felt dizzy all of a sudden and just fell back over into a deep unconscious state. The kitsune was not ready to eat just yet. But his body was.

Pleased the fox had finally decided to lap up some, if not most, of the water in the metal cup before passing out once more, Droh decided the boy would be okay, at least for now. What had disturbed the dwarf, however, was the deep gaze he had received from the white fox, almost as if he was being analyzed, or as if the other was trying to send him a message of some sort. What worried him most, was if the message was a plea for help. Reading the faces of fox's wasn't exactly his area of expertise, and either way, Droh was no mind-reader. But he would make sure there would be no dying on his watch, even if the dwarf lacked healing magic.

The doctor having disappeared, the dwarf sat down with a sigh, a hand going to stroke his reddish beard out of habit. His gaze drifting from the fox to the surroundings; it was sorely tempting to find the light switch around here as the buzz and stark white light coming from the luminescent bulbs was getting on his nerves. In his opinion, the designers of the clinic might have gone overboard with the lighting, but perhaps surgeons had another opinion. Resigning himself to his position, the dwarf dug through his large main pack, carefully setting things aside, one artifact after another, culminating dust, until he came across the leather bound book he was looking for.

Flipping the pages open, his large hands were delicate in trying to find the right page. The book of mystical creatures was under his scrutiny as he looked through the shape-shifting section. Finding nothing useful there, he cursed at the lack of an index, but it was to be expected; older books tended not to have an index, and this book was indeed old. He would have to keep looking, but every few pages, his eyes would spare a glance at the fox. Perhaps it wouldn't hurt just to ask outright, well, hopefully it wouldn't. "What creature are ye?" The dwarf asked quietly, as to not give quite the rude awakening, but if the fox was unconscious, he doubt his ramblings would even cause an ear to twitch. If an answer was given, however, he might be able to help more, but hell, he should have asked the doctor earlier. It was too late for that now though.

The smell of the old, the dusty, and the earth filled the fox's nose again, stronger this time that last. But it wasn't enough to make the beast sneeze or stir from his sleep.

Quietly, a voice came forth, perusing a question to the ageless being. Despite the language boundary, in the fox's mind it rung clear in his blank thoughts, and it was to be answered immediately. The tip of one of the fox's tails, hidden from view by the bedside, glowed a silver-purple color, and the beast's mind extended outwards, a slight push being felt on people close by as the psychic energies the fox possessed were released into the airwaves, and an answer was given. "Kitsune: a fabled fox demon of Japanese legends." A bell-like voice spoke up calmly in the mind of Droh.

Although this had only happened once before, it was bound to happen again as the sleeping kitsune was completely relaxed, and in a place between unconsciousness and the conscious state of mind.
The place in which one could be granted wishes, answers, and receive them with no hesitance from the possessor's connected subconscious.

Once thought to be Inari's servants in ancient Japan, and thus able to gain such knowledge. But Inari's kitsune are white, a color of good omen, although black foxes and nine-tailed foxes are likewise also considered good omens. They possess the power to ward off evil, and they sometimes serve as guardian spirits. In addition to protecting Inari shrines, they are petitioned to intervene on behalf of the locals and particularly to aid against troublesome nogitsune, those spirit foxes who do not serve Inari.. Although whether these facts were true about the black-tipped silver-white fox was anyone's guess. He had never known an Inari personally, but had never shown much interest in his own past and culture after Tokyo was built around his shrine and thus enabled him to forget, and instead indulge on the new technologies of life and gain knowledge of the new world through education, school, and books.

-------Time Skip
After having read about the unfamiliar fox demon, the kitsunes, the dwarf had dozed off, the old book resting on his chest as he leaned back in the chair. While he had been surprised that the fox had heard his question and had been able to use his powers to infiltrate his mind, Droh did not feel intimidated, as he often did around 'magic'. And a message appearing in his mind was definitely something he would consider under the magic category. Unlike elves, his people didn't have an age old prejudice against kitsunes, so perhaps this would explain his ease, and the creature was a fox, rather than a tall, regal, and perhaps slightly arrogant, humanoid figure with pointy ears. While Droh did have more questions for the creature, what he had discovered in the book would satisfy him for now as he allowed the white fox to sleep, and hopefully recover.

((Yeah that would be a good idea, sorry about the wait. :< I'm hitting a writer's block for this one too though...))

Sopian had only been on the island for twenty minutes and already needed a band-aid. Between Lillie getting married and Len coming back in a mess of sickness the Elf princess had returned to the school. She hoped that she would see her little Drohie soon. The teenage girl soon found a place that she could take care of her finger. She wanted into the clinic. She didn't see anyone at first and looked around. "Hello anyone here?" she called out. The girl started to look around and see if she could find something to wrap her finger with.

A loud snort emitting from his nostrils as he awoke quickly at the sound of a voice, the ancient book falling on the ground with a thud. "Oops..." Picking it up gingerly, he placed it on the chair while he stood up slowly, stretching his stiff limbs. Sleeping on a chair wasn't exactly the most comfortable thing in the world. Looking at the fox, he wondered if the voice had come from him again, as the voice was very familiar, one dear to him and could only think that perhaps the kitsune was messing with him. But he then heard foot steps in the clinic as well as some rustling, as if someone was looking for something. Was it her? Stepping out of the room, but not before telling the fox, "Be right back." Upon exiting the doorway, the dwarf smiled to see the back of a golden head he knew well. After his initial joy, however, he frowned and rushed over, whatever did Sopian need in the clinic? Hoping not to see any blood on the princess, he rushed over and grabbed her arm gently. "How're ye? Ye are not harmed princess? Ya need help lovely? Where is that doctor?" his words tumbled out, as he was both worried and happy to see her.

((Little drohie? XD ))

Sopian had finally found a drawer with Hello Kitty band-aids. The girl reached and pulled on out. Now she just needed to find the stuff to clean it. The girl upon hearing her favorite dwarf. "Droh." She said with happiness as she looked at him. "I pricked my finger and now I need to find some stuff to clean it now that I have a band-aid." She answered. She moved to the side. She wasn't a student here so it was like feeling guilty about doing what she was.

Droh smiled, relieved it was nothing life threatening, although she would need to avoid infection. "There be a sink over 'ere." He said, gesturing back to the room with the fox, hoping that soap and some water would be enough. Didn't elves have some sort of healing powers? Pulling at his beard a bit, he figured he had a lot to learn about elves still. The thought didn't even cross his mind to ask why his dear Sopian had returned to the school so soon. Or maybe it wasn't so soon? The dwarf lost track of time pretty quickly. "Somethin' the matter?" The dwarf asked her as he noted her movement. As he walked back to where the kitsune lay resting, he was relieved to see no difference in the fox, as he wasn't about to let the boy get in worse condition under his watch. Maybe Sopian would know a thing or two for him.

The elven princess found her sometimes boyfriend into the next room. Noticing the boy asleep. She was going to stay quiet as best she could. Droh's question caught her off guard. "Nothing is wrong. I was thinking it was really nice to see you again so soon. I wasn't going to have free time until later today to look for you." The teen commented. She walked up to the sink and started to scrub her finger.

"Hmm...Alright if ye say so princess." The dwarf told her, doubting a bit by her reaction she was giving him the whole picture. But it was best not to push, especially an elf. Even if it was Sopian, Droh still had the ancient fears deep down; it would take awhile for them to completely disappear. For ages the dwarves and elves didn't get along. It is difficult to suddenly just change one day, but he did feel like he really had feelings for the dear Sopian. "Are ye busy? Ye don't have ta stick 'round 'ere if ye got things to do." He told her as he stood next to her by the sink, picking up that she said she wasn't supposed to have free time until later today. Resisting the urge to touch her long hair which smelled enticingly well, Droh settled to watching her wash her finger effectively.
