In Which Susipicious Items Are Got

When she had woken up that morning on a Friday, Akuja was struck by this strange feeling that today was going to be…different. She wasn’t sure how, she wasn’t sure why, but as she got up and got ready for work at the Funeral Home, it was a feeling she couldn’t shake off. Today seemed highly suspicious. She was very attentive to every detail that went on during her day, from what she did during work to what she ate during lunch but still, she even called her good friend, Freyr, to see if there was anything going on, but nothing out of the ordinary.

Yet still the feeling was persistent and constantly reminding her it was there.

Work was over for the day and she didn’t exactly feel like returning home yet, so the woman decided to just go for a nice long walk. Hopefully it would ease her nerves. She wandered here and there through town, lost in thought as to what could possibly be rattling her cage today when her feet suddenly came to a stop and her eyes turned towards a suspicious looking shop. Huh…that’s odd…she didn’t remember seeing this shop around before. Maybe she just always overlooked it before? Not only was it suspicious looking, she also had this odd desire to go in and browse the wares.

So she did. There was nothing wrong with that…right?

Upon entering the store she was greeted by an equally suspicious shop keep, who she gave a small greeting to in return before she started to browse through the shelves where many upon many of items were. Maybe this was an antique shop? It sure looked like it (a lot of the items seemed to be like junk to her). Akuja continued to browse just for the sake of looking until her feet came to a pause once more as her eyes once again fell onto two certain items. A rather vibrant jewel with a yellow tassel and chain and then what appeared to be a finely decorated silver compass. The woman stood there staring at the items for a good few moments, her head tilting ever so slightly to the side.

Huh…she’d never been struck by such a strong desire to have an item before, and not just one, but two of them. There wasn’t anything up with that…right?

She had thought about possibly walking out of there without these items but it honestly wouldn’t hurt to have them, right? Acquiring these simple wall-like decorations had nothing to do with that ominous feeling she had this morning, right? Now that was just silly! Akuja shook her head a bit as both hands reached out to grasp the items. She was not a superstitious person and that was definitely no reason to start now.

They were just items.

The woman was suddenly starting to have doubts again though as she went up to the counter, fully intending to pay only to find out that not only were the items free, but it was also no returns. What…? What kind of shop ran like that? How did this shop stay in business? She supposed it wasn’t really her concern, but still. They were for free and they couldn’t be returned? Very suspicious indeed. Maybe they were counterfeits? As long as she didn’t end up going to jail, she supposed she didn’t really care…

Upon arriving home with her newly acquired items, Akuja set to work with finding two nails and hammering them into the wall, where she then placed the Guard and the Compass. After arranging them ever so neatly, the woman stepped back and admired the wall. They looked nice up there…once again the woman tilted her head though as the items seemed to give off this strange glint…maybe she didn’t sleep well last night and was seeing things? Yes, possibly. After putting the hammer away and admiring the wall for a bit longer she decided to retire to bed, flopping down on the mattress as she briefly chastised herself for having a panicky feeling all through out the day when obviously nothing happened at all.

The sleep was deep and pleasant but on Saturday morning, it was the chipper birds that started to wake her rather…childish chattering. Voices, sounding like they were coming from within her house. Surely the neighbor kids weren’t stupid enough to try and break into her house…right? Maybe they were playing near one of her windows…? Akuja rolled out of bed, rubbing her eyes as she ran a hand through her messy white locks and lugged out into the hall, where the voices seemed to be getting louder. This was so odd…

As Akuja rounded the corner, the woman was given quite a shock that made her heart jump, to find two children hanging by their scarves from the nails she had driven into the wall only the night before. She wasn’t sure what to be more shocked by.

The fact that there were two children hanging on her wall, or the fact that the nails were strong enough to support children.

Surprise, Instant Mother Hood, Just Add Children

The woman was certainly dumbfounded, shocked, surprised…these words didn’t seem to exactly describe what she was feeling as she stared at the two children hanging from nails on her wall. Her eyes were wide, her mouth slightly agape as she stared at them, one hand coming up to rub at some of her wild locks absentmindedly. She then reached to pinch the skin of her arm, as if maybe she was still sleeping. The thought crossed her mind:

Not just one booster seat for the car, but two. Two booster seats.

The children equally stared back, though their expressions were quite the opposite of hers. The small girl with purple hair and bizarre, black eyes stared at the older woman quietly and calmly and with a bit of expectation, like she was waiting. The other, more colorful child on the other hand, was wiggling from his perch on the wall; his eyes alight with energy and excitement. This was her!

The boy turned to look at the little girl, grinning. “It’s her! This is our mom, little sister!” A fact he had established quite some time ago while they had nothing better to do than to hang there on the wall. The little girl just gave a simple nod of her head, for yes, she had come to that conclusion herself when they were plucked from the shelves of the shop. At this exclamation Akuja startled. What, her? A mother? No way….A thought suddenly struck the woman’s mind, of a blue haired shop keep who gave a sympathetic look as she told her no returns.

…She knew this was going to happen!

Akuja muttered something under her breath about suspicious shops and equally suspicious shop keepers as her focus came back to the children at hand. Oh…maybe she should get them off the wall. The woman then did just that, plucking the children off the wall by untangling their scarves from the nails, where she was even more surprised to find the items she had received still on the wall, each having lost its color. Odd…very odd indeed. Her attention was once again pulled by feeling a small warm body clinging to her leg. It was the little boy, who stared up at her all bright eyed and grinning widely. “We’ve been waiting forever for you, mom!” He cheered, nuzzling her leg a bit as he hugged on tighter. Akuja didn’t look quite sure how to handle this as she glanced at the little girl who stood a bit away, looking like she wanted to do what the little boy was doing but wasn’t exactly sure if it’d be welcomed or not.

Oh dear…she was really stuck with these children…wasn’t she?

Once it was apparent she was quite awake, once it was apparent that these children were indeed real and not going away, did she start through the motions of starting to take care of them. It didn’t mean it was any less of a surreal feeling right now, as she lead the two children to the kitchen and sat them down and served them some cereal. She could only continue to stare at them from across the kitchen table as she drank her much needed coffee, still very much in disbelief.

Booster seats, beds, kid stuff…clothes…toys…

All the things these kids would need….baby sitting! Oh god, that was totally another subject that she started to fret about until the light bulb went off. Freyr! That big b*****d wanted children, so he should totally want to baby sit some, right? He usually didn’t work when she did, so the hours would work out perfectly….Oh…he was not going to believe her when she told him that she had….children.

Speaking of children…she just couldn’t call them that forever…they needed names…

Being the ever so creative person that Akuja was, she deemed the boy Fremere and the girl Seidh, due to recalling seeing those titles for the items at the shop, and if anything, it was good to stay consistent, right?

Well, the children didn’t disagree with this, so that was always a plus.

This Is How I Write - Getting Teh Skillz

Fremere had a healthy interest in reading, they often went to the bookstores and the library, and he would pick out fairytale books and most especially, poetry books. He really loved the way the poetry flowed in the books, the flowery and imaginative, expressive language and words used! Thus it was only natural that this interest in poetry would lead to an interest in writing it, which he did in a spare journal he had. It was this interest though, in writing poetry, that lead to another interest.

Writing letters to loved ones!

There was something about the novelty of sitting down and writing your feelings in paper that appealed to the boy. The awesome thing about letters though was that it was like poetry, except instead of being kept to him, it was to the people he would address the letters to! Fremere could hardly contain himself, he wanted to get started right away, but he wanted some nice paper first! Stationery! Very lucky for him, the family had taken a small outing to the mall, where he had acquired a fine set of stationery and his sister had acquired a rather large shark plush and now that he had all the proper materials, he could start writing some letters!

Only one problem though, the boy wasn’t…exactly sure how to start a letter! There was a proper set up he knew…thus it was too long before the mother unit was called in to help. She sat down at the table next to her son and used a piece of his stationery to set up an example he would use for his future letters.

So here goes the date…here would go the name…you can address it with just their name or ‘dear so and so’ or whatever you would like…and then you write what you want to write, and then sign it.” After she was done writing on the stationery she slid it back over to the boy to look over. She thought this sounded like a nice little hobby for him…he couldn’t get into trouble doing that…right? Nah, they’d probably be harmless…it was just a kid’s writing after all and who was see to discourage him from having a hobby that many people didn’t practice nowadays?

After having an example to follow the boy thanked his mom enthusiastically and then wasted no time in starting his first letter ever! He dated the paper and then addressed his first letter to his dearest mommy. He then started to write and it was like magic! The words just started to spill out onto the paper and they came quite easily. The letter was about how appreciative he was for his mommy and the stuff she had given them and how beautiful and how much he loved her, the words were imaginative and detailed and flowery, just like the poetry he read and wrote, but the sincerity was still there, of course.

After he was done he signed the letter with a flourish and then proceeded to fold it up and tuck it into an envelope and then closed it with a heart sticker. Quite pleased with himself, the boy darted from the table with letter in hand and ran down the hall into Akuja’s room where he placed a kiss against the envelope and then placed it on Akuja’s pillow where he then zoomed out of the room and sat back down at the table to start another letter, this time addressed to his sister.

He loved this!
